Just for some ponderous frivolity, take it away Come-from-Beyond...

I personally think that initial distribution doesn't matter that much (I'm not an initial stakeholder btw)

Quote from the book 1984:

Throughout recorded time, and probably since the end of the Neolithic Age, there have been three kinds of people in the world, the High, the Middle, and the Low. They have been subdivided in many ways, they have borne countless different names, and their relative numbers, as well as their attitude towards one another, have varied from age to age: but the essential structure of society has never altered. Even after enormous upheavals and seemingly irrevocable changes, the same pattern has always reasserted itself, just as a gyroscope will always return to equilibrium, however far it is pushed one way or the other.

The aims of these three groups are entirely irreconcilable. The aim of the High is to remain where they are. The aim of the Middle is to change places with the High. The aim of the Low, when they have an aim — for it is an abiding characteristic of the Low that they are too much crushed by drudgery to be more than intermittently conscious of anything outside their daily lives — is to abolish all distinctions and create a society in which all men shall be equal. Thus throughout history a struggle which is the same in its main outlines recurs over and over again.

For long periods the High seem to be securely in power, but sooner or later there always comes a moment when they lose either their belief in themselves or their capacity to govern efficiently, or both. They are then overthrown by the Middle, who enlist the Low on their side by pretending to them that they are fighting for liberty and justice. As soon as they have reached their objective, the Middle thrust the Low back into their old position of servitude, and themselves become the High. Presently a new Middle group splits off from one of the other groups, or from both of them, and the struggle begins over again. Of the three groups, only the Low are never even temporarily successful in achieving their aims. It would be an exaggeration to say that throughout history there has been no progress of a material kind. Even today, in a period of decline, the average human being is physically better off than he was a few centuries ago. But no advance in wealth, no softening of manners, no reform or revolution has ever brought human equality a millimetre nearer. From the point of view of the Low, no historic change has ever meant much more than a change in the name of their masters.

Congrats, u almost found one of "1984" references in Nxt.

BCNext used such analogies:

Big Brother == BCNext (he doesn't exist but his image is used for different purposes)
Inner party == Big stakeholders
Outer party == Ppl who define where Nxt is developed to, mostly developers of clients and services
Proles == The rest of Nxt users

CfB goes on to say...

I just read the book last weekend  Wink

What other references are there? You mean in the code, or something that BCNext said?

I can think of some other references of Nxt in 1984  Grin

If I told u other references it wouldn't be interesting.  Wink

The references r not in the code, they r in algos. Btw, TF is an algo too.

The second game based on Nxt has been announced.

I am planning to build a browser game on top of the Nxt blockchain. I already made a few tests and I think that Nxt is the perfect system for this. If this will be a success I already have 2 other developers and one designer who are going to help me with this project.

New coins are not generated at all. Miner's salary is paid only with transaction fees. An account must be unlocked to mine. Timer in [Recent blocks] is just an assessement, it's changed each new block. A few coins will generate a block very rarely, so we need someone to implement pooled mining.

You will be able to lease your account balance to someone else to allow them to forge on your behalf. Ask questions here >>> https://nxtforum.org/leases-and-forging

There is no monetary benefit to pooling as the return for 1 nxt is the same regardless of how much you hold.  I.e. 1NXT earns 'R'. If you have 1000NXT you get 1000*'R' over the same timeframe. Not 1000*'R+10%' or any other addition to R you want to name. So there is no monetary logic to wanting to pool your coins with others.

BUT pooling can give you more regular payments but in much much smaller amounts. Over the very long term the return will be the same. And it means someone can forge on your behalf 24/7 whereas you might not be able to.

AND forging isn't mining. Forging only rewards with transaction fees, not new inflationary coins. So your returns won't be anywhere near mining until there are many many transactions per block but even then forging isn't designed as a get rich quick scheme (it is designed as blockchain spam prevention).

If you are still reading  Grin, you can use any mining hardware you might have to take part in Nxt Indirect Mining. See below and the nxtforum subforum >>> https://nxtforum.org/nxt-indirect-mining/

****

NXT Indirect Mining

NXT Indirect Mining is the process of using existing mining hardware to mine the most profitable crypto currencies and then periodically sell them and use the proceeds to buy NXTs on the open market. In this way, crypto currency miners can use their existing hardware to transition to Nxt's second generation platform. Nxt remains 100% Proof of Stake as it is profit from mining other coins that is used to buy NXTs on the open market. If the profit was used to buy US dollars, that wouldn't make US dollars Proof of Work so neither can Nxt be. This process has a downward pressure on the price of the coins mined and an upward pressure on the price of NXTs. Also see Mining Pool.

FWIW, I posted the following on the XCP thread a while back, when someone was asking about interest in games. For me, it rolls the possible functions into one (trading/chat/message/info/merchant services/etc), and is a lot more interesting than using a confusing geeky platform.

"Does it have to be a game?

How about a vitual 3D community where i can walk down a virtual high st, and go into a virtual store that has actually been setup to sell real stuff, with the protocol being used as the backend of transactions.
How about, after ive chatted with the silver bullion store owner and maybe bought or sold something, i leave the store and walk down to Satoshi Sq where the exchange building sits. Maybe i need to exchange some alts, because on the way i was chatting to the news-stand guy (he asks for tips for breaking news), and he seems to think that AcmeCoin is due for a pump. I leave the exchange after getting my AcmeCoin, and notice a new games arcade has just opened up opposite the casino....... you get the picture.

Surely just a natural progression, using new decentralised technology/merchant systems, no?"

Bump from jl777's InstantDEX (formerly Secret Project) thread at https://nxtforum.org/multigateway-jl777/secret-project/80/

****

Re: secret project

 April 12, 2014, 06:35:26 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The name of the secret project is InstantDEX

With the NXT AE people will be able to trade things, but there will be the blocktime to wait. 1 minute usually, but sometimes could be a lot more. Also 1 minute will feel like a really long time if the market is changing dramatically.

The goal of InstantDEX is to allow for realtime trading of any NXT asset against any other NXT asset (and NXT)
InstantDEX will be able to trade any asset, not just multigateway assets

I have achieved ~5 second times in my proof of concept, but that is not optimized, nor did it implement the full transaction cycle. Also, at these timeframes measuring a transaction really depends on if you count the time from you post a bid, it propagates, somebody immediately accepts it and the trade completes.
Or if you are measuring from when you accept an order on the books and it gets completed.

My goal is to do the former in the ~3 second timeframe. Initial versions will be slower. The multigateway will need to be trusted to redeem assets, but that is a trust level that I am assuming we will be operating with. Almost all of InstantDEX will be decentralized.

People with good internet connections will get better performance than people with bad internet connections.

James

I'm sure he holds/buys and never sells !

Or, it's BCNext kicking our ass to be active and finish what has to be done to push Nxt forward. Because we will just want to contradict this stupid sockpuppet Wink

Thanks emule for being the pain in the ass we want to get rid off by building a better ecosystem, in the end, we'll thank you.

How does Nas affect Nxt's price?

I would even go further and say that through our giveaway that will reach about 3000-4000 people, many people will see the awesome client and the cool features and will learn that the coin that made these cool features is NXT and will look into it. I guess this will increase the price in the long run. It is the same as Litecoin doesn't harm Bitcoin but helps it in the longterm.
