I like all your efforts and think this is really a valueable project.

But from an economics perspective I have doubts regarding your "macro economic policy" - there are tons of factors to consider if you want to stabilize an exchange rate. A read through some economic literature will help you see that no system ever managed to keep an exchange rate stable or almost stable over a long period of time.

to stabilize it against btc is in my opinion an even worser idea, by nature btc will be volatile for a long period of time, what will you do if another crypto overtakes btc and gets the role of reserve currency? will you 3-way stabilize against euro dollar, ether, whatever etc.?

the next thing to consider is the downsides of stabilization (if this is somehow possible), in my opinion there are huge downsides of price stabilization - I had a discussion with maaku(?) in the xcp thread about the function of a price, especially regarding innovations, which should give an insight.

let me know if I can help, this sounds by far more negative than it is meant - I still like your overall idea. if you have questions send me a pm

Or you can use Nxt Asset Exchange to issue the pre-IPO notes/tokens like Siacoin did here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=591283.0. You can take both Bitcoina  and Nxtcoin. Sia did very successful pre-IPO by that.

If you do so, your pre-IPO tokens will be traded by people and you will have a good idea how you can price your formal IPO when it comes.

In light of your comments about the possible IPO structure.

I'm just making this post to register my interest in your project and coin.

I've been reading your updates and lurking for some time now.

Keep up the good work,
Will

Personally, I feel that the IPO should be free from cross pollination from the other coins save Bitcoin. Your suggestion reads like a bit of not-so-subtle NXT promotion as opposed to Skycoin IPO discussion IMO; I beg your pardon if I have misinterpreted your intent.

I have been following the development of Skycoin since Dec 2013 when the questions of "what do we do if there is no mining?" and the initial 2% inflation idea was floated to the community. The depth of development and polish this infrastructure (I don't want to reduce Skycoin to just the coin, since the infrastructure is the real selling point) has received since then, has had me bookmarking this thread and coming back to read it regularly to witness the next development.  It is an ambitious project, and I applaud the obvious thought and hard work that has gone into Skycoin.

I am looking forward to participating in its evolution.

Sticking with Bitcoin is a good idea, as demonstrated by the MaidSafe IPO, it was more of a pump and dump that benefited investors of MasterCoin who had no means of exiting. Furthermore, there was a deliberate arbitrage opportunity that made MasterCoin more appealing to allow for this. I am disillusioned and turned off by that.

I too look forward to actively working and contributing to the Skycoin project. We must think to ourselves, what skill set, connections, or resources that we have that we can use and pool together to ensure the health and success of Skycoin.

We have seen how important community is to the well being of the coin (Dogecoin), and we must do what we can to at least match or succeed that.

Looks very promising, i will follow this thread closely.
Also i think to distribute it over the NXT-AE could be
a good idea.

A decentralized distributed consensus currency, so to speak. At least aiming to be decentralized.
I don't really get the why. Why not some variation of proof of stake? For example a version where one stake equals one virtual node. No need for trust when there's financial interest.

This means Skycoin will have low volatility, a relatively stable price level and known appreciation rate. This will decrease profits for day traders and speculators and make it a "buy and hold" long term coin. It will mean Skycoin will be a more stable "store of value" with less volatility. However, we do not know what trade offs this strategy may have.
The potential to get rich quick is the best possible marketing which also pays for itself. Why would you purposefully kill it. Internet would be very different without dot com bubble.

The better question is, what can we do to raise the value of Skycoin?

I'll send a proposal for a logo and theme soon!

If you are willing to actively participate in this project, please let us know. Community support and building the foundation is extremely important here at this stage. Please be willing to understand this

Is there an alpha client available to download?

Yes, github repository is https://github.com/skycoin/skycoin , instructions are at https://github.com/skycoin/skycoin/wiki/Installation . I've gotten it running on Ubuntu on Virtualbox. The instructions left something up to the imagination. I had to go through several layers of dependencies.

Just FYI, in the whitepapers you mention the Obelisk system of consensus used by skycoin, and Obelisk is also the name of a blockchain server implementation (by the guys of darkwallet). Just wanted to point it out since I was confused (for a second Smiley ) while going through the whitepapers.

Hmm this might just be a game changer..

Since youre just starting to introduce this coin - for the love of god look at what viral advertising has turned Dogecoin into. Here's something I posted in another thread:

I like dogecoin because it is the proof that marketing, be it by a snazzy name or proper advertising or such, plays a major role in the success of a coin. The technical concept for a coin can be flawless but the coin will still fail if not properly advertised.

Some people call it a gagcoin, I call it an eye opener.

For this coin to succeed, please keep this in mind.

I agree about Dogecoin. Good marketing is key. But child like faith can move mountains.
