Quick question.  Can a bitcoin private key be used to generate a Solidcoin address; are these addresses just a different first byte with the usual public key hash + error check code?

To the NO answer.  Why not?  What would happen if I tried?
To the YES answer.  Unless Bitcoin and Solidcoin use non intersecting subsets of the private keys, doesn't this contradict the NO answer?

I sent 100 SC's to scexchange.bitparking.com and the SC's definately left my wallet, but the transfers stays at 0/Unconfirmed. What does this mean?

Possibly that the block containing your transaction isn't yet in your sc wallet. Check it on sc block explorer at http://solidcoin.whmcr.co.uk/.

Well it's been 1000's of blocks and more than 13 hours and still 0/unconfirmed. Are my SC's gone ?

Without any reference for the value of SolidCoin, I decided to value them at 1 USD. Since starting to accept SolidCoin yesterday, I've sold 4 Arimaa sets and 2 books. This was more than I was expecting, so maybe I've valued SC too high. Any suggestions on how to value a new currency when there is no exchange market to set the price.

Still, why not merged mining?

To put it simply I don't want to link to a currency that may possibly be dead in the future. Chaining yourself to bitcoin is like promoting Bitcoin and whatever it does. Currently I don't support how Bitcoin is implemented.

Merged mining isn't the panacea people are making it out to be, the biggest proponents of merged mining are usually tightly entwined with Bitcoin in some fashion, who want it to father all these other chains to secure it's future. If Bitcoin was good enough to stand on its own two feet they wouldn't be concerned with such things, and SolidCoin wouldn't be technically better than it.

Ok, so the whole bitcoin thing security is based on proof of work, how does your faster processing make it any better? Since more blocks != more work. You still 'need' the 'hour' of work.
I don't see how SolidCoin solves anything here.

Actually you are wrong that you need an 'hour of work'. Firstly what is an 'hour of work'. Secondly, was Bitcoin insecure at 6 confs when it started at diff 1? What about in December last year? Was it insecure then at 6 confs?

2-3 confs is "pretty" secure provided the network is balanced. If the network isn't balanced it doesn't matter how long you wait for blocks, it can be compromised. The statement that Bitcoin at 1.9million difficulty is "more secure" is a loaded one. If the bitcoin network isn't balanced at difficulty 10 million it's more insecure than a balanced SolidCoins with diff 10000 blocks rolling every 3 minutes.

Yes it takes more money to attack a higher difficulty, about 15 million US dollars will currently allow you to own the Bitcoin network. Do you know how many 15 millionaires there are out there? Lots.

Also, the static fee, how would that hold up if SolidCoin were to gain value? You release a new version with lower fees? Thats the same as BitCoin does now.
Only real issue addressed here is lowering the difficulty when masses of miners quit. Very usefull if SC remains very small. BitCoin has a lot of dedicated miners who don't quit just because the exchange price would drop low. If either currency were to drop to zero, both blockchains die.

Fees will be changed going forward, they will be set at certain block numbers. They are merely FIXED to some value that will be exportable through JSON api. This way developers can know in advance of a transaction what the fee amount is, reliably.

As to what they will be changed to? Whatever is appropriate. 0.01 SC per transaction is appropriate for now, it's less than the BTC fee in USD.

I wanted to test the SC Guild with cgminer but nothing happens. Phoenix Miner works fine.
My cgminer mines BTC fine with BTC Guild and other BTC pools.

I would price something to start with at 0.001 or so of a bitcoin probably.   Then you can see how it is trading on one of the *coin to bitcoin exchanges and then base your price off of the right percent of your btc price.

I figured out what the problem was. I switched from BTC pool to SC pool and it took a long time before it started to mine. First, my Hs rate had to drop to 0.
It's mining now but about 12% lower Hs rate than BTC.
