Busoni why aren't you contacting those who made withdrawals after the hack and asking them to return the XCP instead of soliciting the community for damages? All it would take is one mass email. This should be your first method of repairing the damage. I think there are many members who if they knew what was going on would return the XCP for a refund. The least you could do is try.

I'm out 15btc worth of XCP right now. But i think it's super important to remain hopeful and look for solutions. I think the above is not a bad idea on top of asking people to help out... Because here's the deal, if this doesn't get worked out in a manner where everyone is satisfied it's going to deliver a huge blow to the project. And on the flip side WHEN the solution is found it's going to demonstrate the strength and commitment of the people involved and give the project a massive boost.

CounterParty is first out the gate but MC, NXT, Ethereum (specifically small time traders of them) can really use this incident to completely turn off the next  round of potential users.

Developers and early "investors" are looking to the future where their commitment is encouraged and rewarded with a higher value XCP. Let's not let this become some albatross hanging over our head. CounterParty has to overcome this FIRST big PR challenge quickly to keep up the momentum. We really don't need hundreds of people running around claiming it's a scam and a pump and dump.

It's kind of ironic that XCP's first "disaster" is a result of it being traded on a centralized exchange.

On another note i find these PHPBB derivative boards extremely cumbersome when it comes to broadcasting info like what is needed right now from Poloniex. I am going through the thread and finding it difficult to understand exactly what the status is. Something on the site (or through email) like suggested above might help. With everything that is going on with Gox i think it's important to keep people informed. I'm not suggesting you (Busoni) aren't doing your best.. Just offering an opinion on how those effected might be better informed to help keep things calm and focused.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

BTW, I really have to recommend JahPowerBit's GUI client. Saves a tremendous amount of typing and verifying when dealing with complex transactions.

I updated the client from the git repository

now it says that "market" is invalid

C:\Windows\System32>C:\Python32\python.exe c:\counterpartyd_build\run.py market

                     {server,potentials,send,order,btcpay,issuance,broadcast,bet,dividend,burn,cancel,callback,balances,asset,wallet,pending,reparse,rollback}

The market command was removed in an earlier update. For now, it's best to use blockscan in its place, as the GUIs emerge.

I agree the best would be busoni contacting them privately asking them to give it back. But again these people were not hackers just traders. The

fact that they withdrew immediately does not mean they knew something was wrong. Some of them maybe, but a lot of people myself included like

to withdraw immediately from CENTRALIZED exchanges. BTW I am not one of those who bought at .002. I actually have over 300 xcp stuck

on poloniex but that doesn't mean I think its right to publish private account info on a public forum. Are you 19 years old? I am not meaning that

as a put down. It's either that or you have a lot stuck on poloniex which I feel sorry if you do but you will get it back. i'm thankful I only put tiny

amount on poloniex. I only put what I could afford to lose.

+1, a lot of people simply can't keep track of these forums, and there is no indication on poloniex.com on the status of XCP.

Joining one of the xcp-subreddits may be a good idea as reddit's internal post voting system allows to upvote good and/or actual information and downvoting the noise.

Just a friendly reminder that even billion dollar companies have critical security flaws:

@ busoni: Pls write an email to those 5-6 users that whithdrew the XCP prematurely and explain the matter to them. I think they will understand and comply if the project is important to them, explaining that their BTC balances will be reinstated, kindly hinting to the fact that a second roll back is on the way which would take away their XCP anyway.

Lol not even that.   If this had been handled by the first 48 hours, like some said , do the 1% tax or create more coins idea, yes some people would be grumpy but it would at least be back on exchange, and back on coinmarketcap with a minor hit to price. It would be done and done,

Now it is worth nothing, everyone is getting the feeling there will be no return of funds, we are not hearing updates from the devs, bad press is starting, sad!

If mr. hacker gave back 80 BTC I would be shocked, I would donate 1 btc to him for honor, but I feel he won't. And I feel donation idea or lotto will never come close to 80

Oh well come on devs, come on hacker, let's get some news

Looks like a critical bug caused some smart cookie to make off with 80 BTC.

Is the bug fixed now?

EDIT: Checked blockscan and saw this in bids
3594   554585.00008063 XCP    0.09999910 BTC/XCP   55458.00088156 BTC

Surely this can't be right or I am reading this wrong.

Just check this : https://github.com/PhantomPhreak/counterpartyd

Devs are busy right now fixing issues and strengthening the protocol. They know what they are doing, no need to complain like a french girl. Updates will come in time.

XCP is worth what you believe if you are a holder.
If you want to sell, it is worth what someone else believes
invisible hand of market comes to some common ground between the two
If there are some who have no clue of value per XCP, perhaps investing in it was not the correct decision

Announcement: Desktop GUI bounty funds to be distributed.

The funds at the bounty address amount to:

  • 7.41790989 BTC
  • 1856.13963636 XCP

There were two submissions for the "desktop GUI" bounty - one from JahPowerBit, and one from btcfanatic. Between these two users, funds at the bounty address will be split thus:

  • JahPowerBit will receive: 4.45074594 BTC and 1113.68378182 XCP
  • btcfanatic will receive: 2.96716395 BTC and 742.45585454 XCP

In other words, JahPowerBit will receive 60% of the bounty funds, and btcfanatic will receive 40% of the bounty funds.

JahPowerBit has demonstrated enthusiasm and initiative, and has made a functioning web GUI. He has also detailed his plans for the future, and has recruited other community members to help him achieve the goals he has set out.

JahPowerBit's GUI has wider functionality than btcfanatic's, but btcfanatic's architecture was more what we had in mind. With that said, we imagine users will have a harder time getting btcfanatic's GUI to work than JahPowerBit's.

While both GUIs are cross-platform, they lack build systems for Windows. Going forward, this is very important.

We strongly encourage the community to get involved: test out the GUIs, interact and collaborate with the developers, and give them feedback. Counterparty is a community driven project, and will progress most effectively if the community works together.

Thanks very much to both JahPowerBit and btcfanatic for participating in the Desktop GUI bounty, and helping the Counterparty protocol become more user-friendly. And thanks to the community for providing donations, to help motivate developers.

We are discussing further bounties which should leverage what has been achieve with the desktop GUI bounty. Please stay tuned.

btcfanatic and JahPowerBit, please email your addresses to <bounties@counterparty.co>.

This is cross-posted from the bounty thread on the official Counterparty forums.

EDIT: Of course, here are the GUI submissions:

If anyone figured out how to get this working on Windows. Please, post instructions.

I have posted a first Windows build for the JahPowerBit GUI (BoottleXCP) here:
 https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php?topic=74.msg760#msg760

Be aware that this build and the BoottleXCP GUI itself are both still in alpha - although the build process is based on my previous Electrum and Chainsnort builds, so that should be pretty robust already.

will this be in line with the bug fix?

Yes the build includes the counterpartyd 6.0 update.
