I think it's worth mentioning that I also support Dnotes. For those that don't know, they have a close community also and the developers work like Rofo.
They did a halving of mining supply a few months ago and the price went up from 250sat to over 1000. Is a halving something Noble should look at doing as a intermediate progression before POS?

Concur........My eyes watches Dnotes daily and since April it has steadily gone up.....that's how any coin should be......not wild P&D shitcoins.

Hello,

is NobleCoin suffering an "attack" right now? I have a feeling it's an attack in the sense that a user with greedy intentions is succeeding in obtaining more blocks than would be fair.

Here's what I think is happening, he has around 0.5 - 1GHs of available hash power, and he is using it to hop between coins.

I know that the 1 block difficulty recalculation should make this attempt null, but I actually think it's working. The difficulty is around 20, then it falls to around 13, and slowly climbs back to 20. The problem is that during the slow climb it gives a large opportunity for the user to find blocks with easier difficulty, and when it stabilizes he can simply move the hash power to a different coin while it waits for the difficulty to fall (around 40 min AFAICT).

I don't think there's a quick fix, but the user is actually hurting the coin in some aspects. Firstly, it reduces the coin security (ie. in the climbing intervals there's also a chance that someone will have 51% more hash power than the hash rate of the network without the original attacker). Secondly, it is hurting the transaction time because during the fall-back period the next block can take about 40 min to be found.

Unfortunately, if this really is happening, the only solution I see is to add more hash power. Consider this a call-to-arms for the community! =D

Rofo, if there's no quick fix, don't bother. POS will fix it, and this is just another bump on the road. It's not as serious as the previous attacks, but if true we should be aware of a higher chance of 51% attack.

If such thing isn't happening, then feel free to ignore this post. I just thought it might be a good idea to point out something weird I'm seeing, but I'm still a noob here.

Thanks,

Janito

Okay, and in the meantime the Winter is coming.
Which sCrypt ASICs do you recommend to heat up a house?

I mean best hash/watt ratio (efficient miners), NOT the other way round (efficient heaters) — of course.
Is anyone informed in this topic?

but that doesn't mean we're not sorting some PoS issues out on the low. It will come.

I can't do much to support the price or hashing, and I'm a small holder anyway, but I can commit to having a couple staking wallets 24/7 on servers to help secure the PoS.

Once PoS is here, having as many staking wallets as possible will be important to prevent forks, secure the network, etc. At least 30% of all NOBL are currently on exchanges, and those won't be staking.

We should look into some of the things other coins are doing like pandacoin's IRC lottery system to liven up the community.

I like that idea. Would be good if we could get enough people involved
here is the breakdown of panda's lotto system:
______________________________________________

We have implemented a Pandacoin (PND) IRC Lotto Faucet system, where you can type the following commands on our irc channel every 24 hours for a chance to win up to 10 million every 24 hours Pandacoins (PND): !lotto !panda or !gimme

It works by a lotto system, where you get one try every 24 hours:

Normal payouts = 300-500 PND
1/10 chance = 1,000 PND
1/100 chance = 10,000 PND
1/1,000 chance = 100,000 PND
1/10,000 chance = 1 million PND
1/100,000 chance = 10 million PND

So join us on #PandacoinPND at freenode.net to try out the Lotto-Faucet commands !lotto !panda !gimme, have a chance of winning up to 10 million Pandacoins (PND) and chat with the other Pandas from this awesome community!

______________________________________________

In addition, you must stay logged in for at least an hour to try the lotto commands.
I'd have no idea how to implement it, but someone smarter than me can probably run with this idea =)
Their community has blown up over the last two weeks thanks to this and other updates.

That is a good way to get more people into IRC. Wonder how hard it would be to implement?

We could also do a general lottery where every certain Noble (e.g. 100 Noble) gets you one entry, then an entry gets picked at random. The main problem is that we would need to get a lot of people to enter for it to be worthwhile. Might be fun though?

I see this on Mintpal:

NOTICE: Please be aware that NOBL deposits require 999 confirms due to 51% attacks on the blockchain.

Is this something new??

ZPOOL - the miners multipool! Support We pay 10 FLUX Parallel Assets (PA) directly to block rewards! Get paid more and faster. No PA fee's or waiting around for them, paid instantly on every block found!

Not meant to be the party-pooper here, but IRC isn't exactly a mainstream chating tool. There's a reason why most of today's coin marketing goes into Twitter.
It's fine for us that are already in the loop, just discussing the coin's future and what not. But as far as promoting the coin itself and getting the general community/new people interacting with NOBL, I'd say we best take it to the twittersphere. (As an example Pinkcoin has a lottery system going on twitter)

Nah, it's been there for quite a while now.

I thought Twitter was a favorite of P&Ders. rofo does tweet out a lot, but not to pump or dump NOBL. I don't think he would like to get into that space, honestly.

They're there aswell, but so is everyone else. Twitter just has the potential to reach a bigger amount of people than IRC ever will; there's no denying that.

Really a shame to see NobleCoin having gone down so far. I have a lot of respect for Rofo and those who have
worked within the community, but the coin really has lost a lot. Once it goes PoS, I'm unsure who it will cater to in regards
to new holders.

+1. I guess the best help we can be at the moment is to try to think of ideas to promote Noble and try to keep things positive, I know that is what I am trying to do...

If anyone would like to chime in/have an idea they want to start remember we're more than happy to fund it out of the reserves ourselves. We just can't be on top of everything all the time, so any time someone has an idea they'd like to push we love 'funding' it with NOBL. Smiley

Quote
I may be in the minority, but I've always viewed the marketplace as being much more notable than the coin itself. Using the coin as a marketing tool to get people to use the marketplace may work better than trying to get folks interested in the coin directly.

I agree, it gives us a good edge w/ real world use and something that makes us worth actually using. marketplace.noblemovement.com is always there. There are actually a lot more things these days you can buy with BTC, and we're transferring them all over @ 15% discount. Coinbase/BTC started promoting % discounts to promote real-world use a couple of months back, but we're still way ahead of them on that department in terms of amount and longevity.

Quote
I also liked that old 'partner coin' idea, where by just holding Noble, investors get freebie coins of different flavors. I assume that idea has been put on the back-burner for now.

Still coming. It's not right doing any sort of IPO or second partner coin until NOBL is a success (in before never jokes), as we'd like it to look like we're strengthening NOBL rather than leaving it.

Hello

Yes, been very common since May or so now. A lot of miners & multipools jump on the PoW coins and take as best advantage as they can. It doesn't help we're still relatively profitable and a natural target to boot. PoS will change that.

Quote
I can't do much to support the price or hashing, and I'm a small holder anyway, but I can commit to having a couple staking wallets 24/7 on servers to help secure the PoS.

Cheers, we got a lot in store to promote PoS staking & security - we just have to dust ourselves off first.

Remember not to feel obliged to buy any NOBL even as it drops unless you're comfortable. This is a bad bear market right now especially for us and vol/prices are down across the board. The price still bothers me more than I should let it. It's not up to us to prop up the price alone but I think use cases and getting others to trade/consider holding some helps more.

Quote

It's generally quiet more often than not, minus the regular visit from GrandMaster to talk smack lol. I was actually surprised that a lot of chans are pretty quiet, although some are quite active.

Go for it, happy to cover the costs, promote as well as pay if we can get another community initiative or two going.

Been there forever, for a long time we were apparently the only coin to suffer 51%s on their site, even once or twice with the 999 confirms.

Quote

Yeah I'm all over Twitter about news for NOBL & crypto. since that's where everyone is. State of the current scene though means it's mostly noise next to everyone just fishing for and promoting price/pump targets.

Quote

I think we can agree unfortunately catering to miners hasn't done us any favours. I know who we'll be catering though, a few other people do too. We've got plenty of marketplace rewards and promotions in mind for rewarding holders & staking.

Sooo... are they saying they've actually been successfully attacked because of this? The network is 1Gh/s +

Seems kinda lame, them being the only ones doing this.

We were 2-3Gh/s* when it started. Unfortunate reality of many PoW altcoins that exchanges generally spend a lot of time trying to watch for.
