looks like someone is massively DDosing the pools.
Same here. Vertco.in has been down for a while now, despite their Cloudflare DDOS protection.

So I was trying my first attempt at solo mining today and kept getting the following message:

Quote
Pool 0 not providing work fast enough

Any ideas what I've done (or not done)?
You need to use stratum protocol, not getwork.
Solo mining is not profitable even at todays difficulty (around 110). To solo mine you should have at least 5% of the network hashrate, which is ~150MH/s. If you have hashrate lower than that you should join a pool to offset changing difficulty.

How do I change to stratum?  The VTC profit calc said I should find a block about every 4-5 days with a diff of 120.  I'm okay with that.

Please remember that this number is an avarage, this means you might also find a block in 10 min. You could, however, be trying to find a block for 10 years too but without succes. That's why i'd suggest to use a pool, just because you'll be getting payouts on a regular basis.

I aware that its probability.  Just wanted to try solo.  Wink

Any ideas on how to fix my setup?

Wich .bat config are you using atm?

At the moment, none.  My miner is running linux.  My wallet is running on Windows.  If it matters, I used telnet to confirm that all ports are open.

Hmm I really don't know anything about linux tbh. I'm sure Boris or someone else with linux will be around and he'll probably be able to answer your questions.

looks like someone is massively DDosing the pools.

If some of the normal pools aren't working, there are dozens of public p2pool nodes available to use as backup pools. Smiley

Do you mean settings browser wise?
If that is the case I'm using chrome to access the website,  just logged in and went to my dashboard with no delays.

This may sound a little stupid, but is vtc.crypto-pool.fr working ok? I've been mining for the past 10 hours and not a single block has been found Sad. Just bad luck? I'm trying not to use the other (larger) pools, but a quick 1 hour on one of them has already gotten be 0.18 VTC.

I'm thinking it's just bad luck but wow Sad.

The larger the pool the less variance in your payments. But it shouldn't effect your long-term average earnings.

Thanks. More time for GPUs to get in the hashes. I did notice that one of the devs for Zerocoin offered on Yacointalk forum to one of the devs there to implement Zerocoin on top of Yacoin. This was December 31st. 8 days later this coin is introduced. Lo and behold the same Zerocoin dev seemed to have jumped on board with this project instead. The Yacoin devs had told him thanks, but we want to focus on the "first order of business," being the POW orphan issue.  Cheesy

http://yacointalk.com/index.php?topic=553.0

I have to quote myself here to laugh at myself a bit. Little did I realize at the time of posting this that the developer I was talking about from that link is the creator of Vertcoin. LOL. Wow. The Yacoin folks seemed to pass up a huge opportunity there. Good thing for Bushido I guess, since the Yacoin devs view this thing as a pump and dump scheme. Oh the humanity. I am invested in Yacoin, not much. I will hold it I guess since it ain't worth much. I am beginning to conclude that Vertcoin, having a wider community consisting of more than old school insiders, is deserving of it's success to this point. While Yacoin perhaps deserves a bit more credit than they have been given to this point (especially with their Yacminer being the most stable I have found to mine Vertcoin by GPU), there seemingly stubborn rigidity has continually led to their current obscurity.

Just wanted to share this awesome work by LukeMaxwell:
The logo was originally designed by khanwaltman.

http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xem60/id_like_to_offer_my_services_to_help_spruce_up/

can anybody create a additional button with "We Support Vertcoin" or ""Supporting Vertcoin" oder something similar ?

This is gorgeous. Any word on this from the official team?

we are considering it.

I like the logo in this one more (up-right), because it's check-mark style has good effect on marketing.

I agree with you. I suggest that we use the checkmark design for vendors to put in their stores and sites, and the "emerald/jade" design as the main Vert logo (ie web page etc).

the checkmark one is perfect for vendors and merchants. Its simple, eye catching, and straight to the point (consider a sticker with that by their credit card machine or website). As someone said a few pages back, the paypal marketing team themselves would be impressed.

The emerald one is solid and strong as the a main default representation.

Edit: Here is the official logo thread

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=455480.40

+1 for the checkmark logo. I really like both but we need to have just one unified logo IMO.Great job guys! Keep it up.

That's what I'm thinking as well Smiley. Just curious if "luck" could be this bad, thanks for the reply Smiley. I'll keep supporting the smaller pools then.

Azure Vertcoin Pool

DDOS reisistant P2Pool Node

http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

To connect to this P2Pool node simply point your miner at:

URL: stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171
Username: Your vertcoin address
Password: Anything

Sample configuration

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171 -u VbNPoxNeiNg6Bj9RwjjS4GazDbKLgUqNDP -p X

Fast facts

1. P2Pool nodes are all part of one single, big, distributed pool
2. When any p2pool worker on any node finds a block, everyone on all the nodes gets paid their share
3. There is no pool wallet, and hence no payout threshold. Payments go directly to your wallet
4. The distributed nature of p2pool resists DDoS attacks

Decentralize the hashrate!

https://moolah.ch/ is adding us to their merchant platform and we should be live tomorrow. This enables easy, fast VTC stores to be created, and makes the first VTC ATM not so far away - see https://moolah.ch/atm

Thanks Moolah!

Link to an API on an exchange and set a BTC or USD price in your backend, then let the advertised price fluctuate?

Even better, decide how much VTC you want (ie. consider it a primary currency) then just hold VTC! I think you'll find, if you decide to do that, some of those purchases will prove to be rather like a well known pizza.
