Even a smartphone could mine SCRYPT-N up to N=16384. It might not be difficult to implement to ASICs, but the hashrate has to be ridiculously low

The hashrate of GPUs is also lower on Scrypt-N compared to Scrypt, going lower with higher N. Likewise, this ASIC on Scrypt-N mode will hash more slowly than on Scrypt mode. But hashing power is all relative so it doesn't matter.

edit: I don't think the ASIC's hash rate would decrease linearly with N like with GPUs. It's probably worse than that, but the overall hashrate of these things is so massive (300 MH/s) that they can probably take over the network anyway.

Game over, it seems.

The litecointalk thread says that they plan to ship in Q3.  I'll believe their claims when I see a working demo, but suppose they do work:

Q. What is the point of Vert, when it went out of its way to attract LTC miners and ASIC haters with a stance on keeping ASICs out of CPU and GPU mining?

never posted here, but would genuinely be interested to see how to keep ASICs out of GPU mining as I have a bunch of R9 290s and I quite like mining. I have been mining Darkcoin, but that is no longer profitable to mine, so I'm looking for something else to mine, currently testing out PoS with SummerCoin (not spamming, its already half-way through the 7 day minting stage)

Before you all jump to conclusion let me speak about flower tech. They are in the same state as alpha marketting with gpu as competition in mind. So with knc and zeus suddenly came up marketting with much better spec and especially earlier delivery for zeus they are hardpressed to deliver something better.

Flowertech is also the least communicative in litecointalk at least alpha has taped out. No communications whatsoever from brock.

I believe in vertcoin devs.

Are you serious right now?
Their ASIC is designed to be optimal calculating one specific algorithm with one specific memory requirement, scrypt:1024 (litecoin) and the memory requirement for Vertcoin is much different. Of course they don't mention any hashrate with vertcoin because it would obviously suck. And no info at all about their product's memory.
There's a difference between being "capable of" and "efficient at"

that makes sense....gridseed are low speed ASIC. But the main advantage of these low tech ASICs is power efficiency compared to GPU mining.

Vtc devs said they would hard fork if need be to get rid of ASICs, so yeah, there goes Flower who.

Also, scrypt asics cost a LOT of money and aren't delivered on time...basically a manufacturer's game->centralization.
We don't want that and we'll vote with our wallets and hash.  Cool

They don't provide performance number for scrypt-n...
I guess they are not that good, probably not  competitive with gpu price wise.

I think here not good place for Your scam preorders. We all know what preorders mean  first second Vertcoin community hard believes Decentralization and gpu/cpu mining that is one of the cores of this coin ideas so even if it will not be scam in which I doubt 99.99% We will simply change algo .So in all cases You can't sell  that asics here. Go in Doge and ltc threads.Read header We don't buying ASICS, We beating whem..

Game over, it seems.

Let's not get carried away shall we, given that FlowerTech are the same company that claimed about 6 weeks ago they would be able to mine Scrypt-N, and were found to be using pictures of Intel NICs on their site implying they were product photos.

CORRECTION: Someone pointed out to me that it was Bliss Devices and not FlowerTech who used pictures of Intel NICs in their marketing.
