There are better blockchains than btc already.

But btc has the brand effect and the importance of becoming the first cryptocurrency. This can't be change.

"Soon" would be in the next 1-3 years or so.

One of the biggest dangers for BTC is something more useful coming along and investors switching - a process which could happen extremely fast, once started.

So to all the tech savy people in here - what advantages could other cryptocurrencies bring that will give them a crucial edge over BTC, and how fast could something like that come along?
If ever that bitcoin was replaced by something better, I dont think that they will be much better than bitcoin. In fact, bitcoin gives opportunities and benefits to us that no one can give. There will be a lot of improvement in the next three years. They cant reach the number of user in bitcoin and it is  one of its advantage

What do you mean by replace? Market cap value? A better store of value? Or, more `known`?

No matter the huge amount of new coins that appear all the time I can't see that Bitcoin could be replaced by anything better. When we are talking about cryptocurrencies so far I haven't spoted any better technology or coin that is better than Bitcoin.
And to be better than Bitcoin that means to have more perfect technology without issues, biger value, adoption and application in real life. You have to admitt this is not easy to achieve.

If a crypto is stable not volatile, no fluctuating price, no higher fees in blockchain and exchangers, friendly to all and easily managed, it will be on top but bitcoin will still be there improved as well and helpful. Just my opinion.

Yes technology advances, but i don’t think bitcoin can be overcomed by any crypto in the next three years. If bitcoin advance and improve also in its use, it will remain on top. Because i don’t think that there are crytos coming out better but the one who started it [bitcoin] will not improve amd comeout better than all.

Technology of the day is very advance and any thing is possible in this techno-world so many coins are there in the market and much more are in the way to come, many of them have so many qualities and characteristics but btc is an established coin which have its reputation and value which make it stable and popular, and it is difficult to find its replacement at present and in the years ahead.

There is no chance and it is impossible to other crypto to beat bitcoin and replace its position because it is the most reliable crypto among all the crypto currencies.

Everything is possible especially now many altcoins are coming out and the platform is even better. But they need time before they can and many tests they need to go through will be reached. And of course, they do not lose Bitcoin because it's the only one decentralized!

Current developments are very fast, so everything can happen, because everyone is racing to make money with technology. but I'm sure bitcoin will also be more advanced, because bitcoin is the first crypto currency.

I did not understand why you think that some crypto-currencies can be better than bitcoin. I don't see any serious competition for him yet.

Cryptocurrency is now developing very quickly and there are a lot of different altcoins, but I do not think that some of them can replace bitocoin.

I don't see any coin that is better than bitcoin.  Ethereum is also good but then more investor really wanted to stay with BTC because BTC is the first and the most expensive coin until now.

And I think this will never happen, because bitcoin is getting better and better, and the trust in it is constantly growing, and the other cryptocurrency will have to start all over again. I only believe in bitcoin.

Most likely altcoin is still very difficult to compete with bitcoin in a long duration because in the view the exchange rate is too much different so that altcoin opportunities narrower in any condition.

Once it is undeniable that things like MintChip have really inspired Bitcoin .. and governments around the world are bound to develop similar "smart money" if MintChip succeeds.

the facebook comparison are a little off the mark just free platforms that people can jump between on a whim.,,amounts of money have already been put into bitcoin and that's only going to become larger.,,makes people more conservative and being overtaken while it's still a minnow might be the start of it becoming a force and i guess is that for it to happen it would need to be sooner rather than later and there's nothing on the horizon yet...

Bitcoin isn't the "Yahoo" before a "Google" of Cryptocurrency. On the off chance that we should make a similarity to analyze advanced resources, it is more precise to state that Bitcoin resembles gold, and altcoins resemble platinum, oil, or silver. They are advanced resources, not organizations, and they are very significant for various reasons (the greater part of the altcoins are profitable for theoretical reasons alone). Bitcoin may not remain the most significant digital currency, but rather I can't see a way where Bitcoin is relinquished altogether.
