I must say, even though I read a lot of posts from people saying they don't like Mike Hearn, every time I read his arguments they make far more sense to me than than the anti-revision lobby (those who want the blocksize left alone).

If I were "big banks" / "the Elite" etc and I felt threatened by BTC and wanted to kill it, I would laugh at how naive the Bitcoin XT design is.

8mb blocks = bloat attack vector wide open. Bloat that can make Bitcoin XT => DOA within months. I would simply pay for some bogus transactions, insert tons of bloat (at 8mb blocks, you can get around to 115gb in 100 days and half a terabyte in one year) and then proclaim BTC dead because it's way too bloated for real life adoption.

Even at 40gb people are like "oh man, do I really have to download this?" and many simply don't do it. Why would they be happy with downloading TBs instead of GBs? And the western / developed world, is one thing with all the access in cheap technology that we have. What about countries where they really need bitcoin for online banking and wealth preservation, and where access to cheap hardware (or even cheap bandwidth) is more problematic than the west? Not everything is equal in this planet. In the USA a 2tb drive might be a couple of hours of one's job, while in some part of the planet it could be a month's wage.

They could do the same thing with Bitcoin Core and kill it with lag instead of bloat, which I think would be even worse. A relatively small amount of money would be effective at spamming the network with enough transactions to either: a) drive the cost of transactions to prohibitively high levels, or b) block out all legitimate traffic that doesn't want to pay above the necessary fee threshold.

Trying to withdraw 380 ish DASH from Cryptsy.

Each time I pick the entire balance, first they sent 91, then 68, then 103, then 51 and then the last 50.   That's 5x .004 DASH withdrawl fee.  What the fook is going on?

Me too...six withdrawals later and I still have 200+ coins on there. Supposedly they need to consolidate the dust in their hot wallet. Lookiing at one of my withdrawals in the blockchain explorer, 25 Dash came from like 80 different inputs.

I think the network is slower to update this time around because V12 was released so close to a weekend. Hopefully it will pick up some today.

A determined attacker (let's say a big bank or a credit card company) that has quite a few millions to spend (because there are hundreds of billions at risk), has one attack vector with core and two attack vectors with xt.

With core they can create a queuing of transactions if these don't have a high fee.

With xt, they can do the same, but also bloat the XTcoin to DOA levels.

It'll never become prohibitive though, unless one is trying to move <1$ amounts or dust.

Ethereum has just been rocked by a major scandal:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/3h7oel/early_contributor_distribution/

tl;dr Two of the top people on the project (Vitalik and Stephan) are arguing after Vitalik give hundreds of thousands of the Foundation's ether to people who made essentially no contribution to the project.

Strangely, I pulled 210 more DASH out of Cryptsy this morning and it wasn't fragmented.  It showed up complete.

I did submit a ticked to ask for the fees back for yesterday.  Not sure what they will say but it's worth a shot.

It looks like changes to the naming convention/directory structure may have broken some update scripts. In case it helps, here's what I had to do on my MNs:

./dashd stop
wget https://www.dashpay.io/binaries/dash-0.12.0.45-linux64.tar.gz
tar xfvz dash-0.12.0.45-linux64.tar.gz
rm dashd
cp dash-0.12.0/bin/dashd dashd
chmod 755 dashd
./dashd -reindex

Note two changes:

tar xfvz dash-[VE.RS.I.ON]-linux.tar.gz

changed to:

tar xfvz dash-0.12.0.45-linux64.tar.gz

***AND***

cp dash-[VE.RS.I.ON]-linux/bin/64/dashd dashd

changed to:

cp dash-0.12.0/bin/dashd dashd

Hello.

I am thinking about try my luck on solo mining Dash for a while.
Coinwarz tell me that it will take me around 2.3 days to find a block depending on luck.

What does that mean ? It can take 2.3 days or two months to find a block ?
I dont really understand why Coinwarz have that calculation if everything is depending on luck.

I never solo mined before, is it worth trying these days or should i just go regular pooling ?

The calculation is based on probabilities... if you mine solo long enough, and diff does not change, you will avg one every 2.3 days.

you can only solo mine with old version 11, the new release of version 12 will not allow it because of a code carry over from bitcoin 10, it is hoped there will be a modification to bring back solo mining.
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/commit/cf0c47b
You have until september to solo mine before enforcement begins.
The diff is probably too high anyway to find a block, try this custom optimized AMD miner, it is quicker than solo mining and recommended, and helps not to have too much hash power and potential forking in one pool,
I am surpised more do not use it.

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

sync-ing the BlockChain now - but - have to work today.....
Will hopefully have it up and running by 04:00 UTC, from now
[3rd try - ugh]
Can't get DASH MN to run with ubuntu MATE on Pi - gonna stick to Raspiban on 32GB
- crashes during compile with errors, every time, with ubuntu MATE on Pi

Mine compiled flawlessly on Raspbian. I think i had to add "sudo apt-get install libqt4-dev" to get dash-cli to build.

Running at the moment. Not too happy with the 50% cpu of the Pi2. Used to be 15 to 20 ish.  Embarrassed

Run a masternode on a raspberry pi 2 @home! Follow my noobfriendly tutorial @ https://dashtalk.org/threads/masternode-on-raspberry-pi-2-model-b.4083

It should calm down once we drop the old network.

What's this I'm seeing on my masternodes:

./dashd getinfo

"Dashd no longer has RPC functionality, use dash-cli instead."

Can somebody write up a new guide for masternodes with all the V12 changes?

********************************************************************
Pls make sure your wallets (cold and hot) have version 0.12.0.55 !!
********************************************************************

Update with version change for windows users with help of WINSCP

Hot wallet (Linux) :

./dash-cli stop
replace old dashd with new winrar extracted dashd with help of WINSCP
add new winrar extracted dash-cli to same location as dashd with help of WINSCP
chmod +x ./dashd
chmod +x ./dash-cli
rm ~/.dash/peers.dat
./dashd
./dash-cli getinfo
wait for full sync

Cold wallet (Windows) :

replace old dash-qt.exe with new dash-qt.exe
delete peers.dat
start wallet
wait for full sync

Update with protocol change & command-option reindex for windows users with help of WINSCP

Hot wallet (Linux) :

./dash-cli stop
replace old dashd with new winrar extracted dashd with help of WINSCP
add new winrar extracted dash-cli to same location as dashd with help of WINSCP
chmod +x ./dashd
chmod +x ./dash-cli
rm ~/.dash/peers.dat
./dashd --reindex
./dash-cli getinfo
wait for full sync

Cold wallet (Windows) :

replace old dash-qt.exe with new dash-qt.exe
delete peers.dat
start wallet with commandline option -reindex
wait for full sync
issue "masternode start passphrase"

Hot wallet (Linux) :

./dash-cli masternodelist full | grep -e SERVER_IP -e SERVER_IP -e etc.

Extra info from solarminer on dashtalk :

Quote
If anyone needs the command to check if multiple nodes are enabled you can use this and replace xx... with your IPs, pubkeys, or hashes. The "masternodelist full" is needed to display IPs now since the "masternode list" only
displays the hash-index. Since the "masternode list" command has reduced functionality, this needs to be clearly addressed in the release notes.

 ./dash-cli masternodelist full | grep -E 'xx.xx.xx.xx|xxx.xxx.xx.xx|xxx.xxx.xx.xx'
or if you just want a count of how many are running:
 ./dash-cli masternodelist full | grep -E 'xx.xx.xx.xx|xxx.xxx.xx.xx|xxx.xxx.xx.xx' | grep -c ENABLED

It could take a few hours on dashninja.pl to catch up but if masternode list addr | grep -e SERVER_IP shows "ENABLED" your good to go.
or type 'masternode debug' in remote wallet's (windows) console and see if it returns "successfully started masternode"

To check if your blockchain got synced correctly :

Blockchain Explorer 2 : http://explorer.dashpay.io/

Masternode Operators do not "buy" software to generate them revenue. They're rewarded for a service. It is expected they take proper measures to insure the network is maintained.

We have had testnet for months, where everything has been layed out. Numerous questions and answers are brought up daily.

There is no responsibility by the dev team, who are volunteers, to produce a step-by-step direction for MN Op. It is expected MN OPs keep up with changes. There is absolutely nothing new or radically different, just adaptation to bitcoin core v.10.
