Life has a funny way of working out - last summer I was tinkering with Masternodes, now I run 150+ websites on a linux server for my work. Glad I took the time to learn how to properly node back then ;-)

My favorite guides, all by chaeplin -- he doesn't go into detail but the man is a guru :-)

Shapeshift.io CEO Erik Voorhees Explains His Revised Stance on Altcoins

“To the extent that there are coins that do something unique and they can find a niche — you know, [Dash] is more private than Bitcoin. And there is certainly a need for more privacy. Anything that has a certain niche and a certain ability to fill that I think can coexist [with Bitcoin], but in terms of raw money I think Bitcoin blows away everything else.”

http://coinjournal.net/shapeshift-io-ceo-erik-voorhees-explains-his-revised-stance-on-altcoins/

Awesome, we're starting to pop into the conversation here and there.  Personally, tracking the USD is the last thing I want in a crypto.  I see all kinds of issues happening there, #1 being that your at the mercy of national monetary policy - the very thing we hope to escape (at least, that's one of the things I thought crypto currency was about?)

Also, it amazes me that these "famous" Bitcoiners are still unaware of anything Dash is doing except anonymity.  I would think being instant would be a huge thing, but they either don't know, or don't trust again?  Who knows!?!

how much does a masternode make daily?
I had 20 Dash for 31 days of service in July, it will depend on the block size, hash difficulty, voting and number of masternoders, the block size has a cap limit so you will have a minimum of around 0.44 Dash per day with the current number of masternodes ~ 3000
(not everyone has updated yet and enforcement is off so the hot numbers are spurious atm)
These are the predictions,
http://178.254.18.153/~pub/Darkcoin/masternode_payments_stats.html

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Update with protocol change & command-option reindex for windows users with help of WINSCP

Hot wallet (Linux) :

./dashd stop
replace old dashd with new winrar extracted dashd with help of WINSCP
add new winrar extracted dash-cli to same location as dashd with help of WINSCP

chmod +x ./dashd
chmod +x ./dash-cli
rm ~/.dash/peers.dat
rm ~/.dash/mncache.dat
./dashd --reindex
./dash-cli getinfo
wait for full sync

Cold wallet (Windows) :

replace old dash-qt.exe with new dash-qt.exe
delete peers.dat & mncache.dat
start wallet with commandline option -reindex
wait for full sync
issue "masternode start passphrase"

Hot wallet (Linux) :

./dash-cli masternodelist full | grep -e SERVER_IP -e SERVER_IP -e etc.

Extra info from solarminer on dashtalk :

********************************************************************************************************************************
There are still users on either wrong version or wrong protocol or both !! pls make sure your wallets (cold and hot) have version 0.12.0.45 and protocol 70103 !! ********************************************************************************************************************************

It seems TAO'S MASTERNODE SETUP GUIDE FOR DUMMIES will need an update at some point for 12.0.45. While doing some trial and error cutting and pasting with Guide For Dummies as my base and reading through the recent posts, My Masternode finally started-up after using the Purple Text in the above post. If you are dependent on TAO'S MN GUIDE like me, try adding this to your efforts.

Thank you qwizzie for your helpful post.

Hi Jestah!
Every time I upload .exe, I also do a virustotal scan and publish it as well. See this link: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/ec2e4e1d9bbac1e59d0967895b5e6ca93adc8c5da6cc5df3c916eabaab92c7c0/analysis/1437467954/
(notice that the hashes match)
But somehow as time passes, virustotal seem to find more false positives in the EXACTLY SAME .zip file. This is really weird.
The .exe was built on a special build machine, which is very unlikely to be infected.
If you are concerned, I recommend to build from source (the miner is open-source and available on github).
PS: I also wanted to mention that we donate 1% of profit to DASH donation address.
Please join us!

Thanks!
I didn't know you were open source, I found you in github straightaway, sorry I presumed you were an .exe only  Embarrassed

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you can help me with my new P2pool setup. Should my P2pool node automatically show up on the P2pool node lists? Or do I have to "open up" to outside users? Also, do you recommend any tools to monitor my node? Thanks!

Mine isn't showing up, but seems to be running fine. I just don't know if I'm hashing at nothing or if it's really working, LOL

Thanks!!!

If you are getting payouts to your addy, then you are running fine(last found block was a few hours ago) so If you have not had anything, then something is wrong Smiley

Thank you, I probably wasn't there for the last payout ;P  So I undoubtedly need to wait a bit longer to be sure, thanks!

I am assuming you are GPU mining, suggest you can drop your voltages by 30-100 millivolts, you will run cooler and save power.
Although same applies to cpu on local machine, you can lower main core voltage and cpu will be less heat stressed, but there is an increased chance of crashing.

Gosh, you know, I just have this linux box with a weaker video card (5750, I think) and I doubt I'd save much energy, LOL.  I'm gonna lose money on this anyway, so since I have no idea how to drop the power, I figure I'll save the time and energy, thanks SE!

But if you could explain why I don't show up on th node list, I'd sure appreciate it!  I don't want to show up, because I'd feel responsible staying up and not losing track of the server if other people join me, but I'm worried it means I'm not really mining ;P

Yes, the protocol version will be correct when updating to the latest version (.45) available on dashpay.io

And no, no config file editing necessary.

No need to update, it's working perfectly.

Make sure you reindex, or do as I do and delete everything in your dash folder except wallet.dat and dash.conf

Start it the same way as before: dashd -daemon

But all other commands use dash-cli command including stop Wink
