There is already one of such projects working:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=626715.0

i think that a website must be setup, something like betarigs, where you can rent/lease a masternode at a certain price or %.

it could help a lot if this is an official site from the dev team and not someone that can run away with 10-15-20-30 nodes (no offense to DyslecticZombei, i m just saying)

I agree it is not the optimal set up, but is the only one I know that has been successful atm. I've seen a couple more people trying to do this and we've discussed many other options here, but I'm not sure the market is big enough for someone to code the solution.

I would not want the devs involved with this, that could raise a lot of other issues and bring more centralization. I think the market should take care of it once someone comes with the solution to the trust issue.

Mining pools are centralised too, right? You can always solo mine, or p2pool mine. Or trust a collective pooled.

There will always be good and bad actors.

Compiled on Linux, the latest commit (bfb4e53d104b2a4caae04f18db195ed521a75d85). The wallet works fine, but the version it shows on "About DarkCoin" is v0.9.4.13-1-gbfb4e53-beta and "getinfo" shows version 91000. I guess that everything is fine but the confusion comes from a negligible bug?

Bump! Those of us who do not quite have enough DRK for a MN nor enough technological know-how are eager to join ASAP.

I own a DASH Masternode.... And you should too.

I've got to imagine a shared MN would be something to the likes of sending X percentage of coins to the MN DRK address, that address runs the node. Any payments from the reward are divided up proportionally to the amount of DRK sent less some sort of maintenance fee (2%). Definitely an interesting take on generating passive income for those that fall short of the 1K threshold.

if it'll really be trustless like he said (which would be really awesome) then there's no need for caution.
But as I see it a trustless solution would have to be coded into the Coin by Evan, it's not something a third party could do. Something like allowing a multipart Masternode tx input. At least I can't think of third party trustless solution to this

Thats the thing. For a MN to work, it MUST have a 1k deposit on an address 0. Meaning, that whatever solution for a "trustless" handover of DRK, these will have to be pulled together as one single transfer, in one single tx id.

So the bottleneck here is the 1k deposit. You cant add multiple inputs to make 1k.

Making a multisig 1k would only end up in a mess-up. You only need 1 bad actor to screw it all up.

I would be careful as well !
I can see a lot of people running into trouble with this and sure then they will all come back here crying about
- their lost coins
- not working MN
- and such …>

I think it is good that it has to be 1000 coins and is pretty complicated and technical that really only the tech pro's are doing it !
i have the coins but not the knowledge to run it save and secure !
Better save than sorry !

If you have the coins, no reason not to run it now that we have cold wallet support, your coins wont be online anyway, why not put them to work?  There is 0 risk of loosing your coins now, worst that can happen is someone takes down your node and you are offline for a while but who cares! The point is no one will be loosing their coins from running a masternode if you have the 1K to do it on your own.

On the other hand, for people pooling DRK together to run a shared masternode there is the trust issue between the operator and the shareholders but that is a completely different issue and has nothing to do with DRK.

What does this "cold masternode" mean really? Can you have a masternode with 1000drk without even a computer powered on? Or is it just having 1000drk in a cold wallet and a masternode running on a computer?

I'm sorry I'm not good with these things, but I'm curious.
