I take it that the hack would start by following coins and frequency of trades into large wallets?
Maybe sending their own coins into exchanges and keeping track of where they end up.
That's like figuring out where the safe is, then going after it. So, exchanges need DRK, InstantX and Multi-sig more than they know.

Shit man. When the cold wallet starts shuffling I start sweating. I really hope Otoh and all are ok in this.
Otho wall was in CNY. +1 However, I'm sure Otoh had a stack of BTC there too. Let's hope Otoh - and others here that use BTER - are unaffected by this. Sadly, it's yet another example of why the current centralized exchange model doesn't work. Walter

I've been loosely following some decentralised exchanges in dev. Huge bitch seems to get the p2p protocol to play properly. Anyone here have 0.02c to share on who they think is getting there?
I personally have high hopes for Coinffeine, but for nothing utterly specific, I just got the know theme netter through an LTB show and like what I heard.

Still it will be PITA getting them out of there ether through altcoin slippage or Chinese banks? Hows that works for non citizen

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5424980#msg5424980

I will await the outcome of the Zeuner peer review of shadowsend v2.
Isidor has undertaken to also compare/contrast SSv2 with other anon systems, including yours (DRK MN's). The report should be illuminating for all.
So you will await the outcome of someone's review - await it for what? So you will decide what to do with your shadow coins? What happens if he says shadowsend is almost as good as ducknote, will you dump shadow and buy ducknote?

The person who handles moving BTC between hot and cold wallets on BTER probably had a trojan on his computer.

Too early to say at this point. To be honest I don't think we'll ever know the truth about what happened.

Whatever happened earlier with the pool payouts that were incorrect? Looks like they had the wrong block reward structure.

A short update about enforcement
As it turns out the enforcement code and strategy worked fine, but it just appears some clients lost the spork settings and other clients were coming and going and never received them. This is pretty easy to resolve, simply by having the reference node frequently send out spork settings to the network.
We've turned back on enforcement and everything looks fine so far. If you want to help out just look for "CheckBlock() : skipping masternode payment checks" in your logs. If you see that, shoot me an email to evan@darkcoin.io with your debug.log.
