WITNESS THE RAW POWER OF THE ARROGANCE OF BRIAN ARMSTRONG COINBASE CEO:

Back in the day, I had to sell some BTC to pay the fabrication facility makiing Bitfury USB miners.  I used Coinbase.  They fucked up the order which was going to delay my money for 3 more days which would have killed my timeline.  I spent a couple of hours finding their top secret address and ended up knocking on their top secret door.  Brian Armstrong opened the door personally after I spent some time talking very loudly with him through it.  After threatening him a bit, he finally saw it my way and gave me a check to go away.  My favorite part of the exchange:

Brian (to nameless programmer on other side of the door):  "This is why we don't want customers here".
Me: "I can hear you"
Brian: "Shit"   - pause - "OK, come on in".

So that no man might buy or sell unless they co-operate.
No thanks. I use Darkcoins
I have officially banned Coinbase, I urge others to do the same:

The lead dev is Charlie Lee.

That was a public slap in the face.

Coinbase rocks. They put two fingers up at LTC and they shutdown customers accounts for spending their own money in ways that coinbase does not approve of.

DRK can't lose.

Heh, amazing what $75 million or whatever it was of VC funding will do to someone.  Roll Eyes

Also, someone please explain to me how a 'side chain' is functionally different from an 'alt coin.'

You need an altcoin at the other end to transact between. I suppose you could create Bitcoin 1, Bitcoin 2 and crossover between the two. That way you don't have to work with or create an altcoin  Tongue

My point was that a side chain is basically another coin. That, in this case, will presumeably exist to do some stuff that Bitcoin... can't.  Cheesy

The only one I used (and not much) was mastercoin. I had to run the mastercoin client on top of bitcoins to synch the 2 blockchains together and have mastercoin running on as a second client, constantly synching with btc's blockchain to produce a connected sidechain.
This enabled an exchange system of buy/sells for btc/msc within the mastercoin wallet much like a normal exchange which was quite impressive at the time (1 yr ago) but the project never seemed to go much further than that. Its using bitcoin as the backbone and other coins ride on it's back, you can create other coins easily of course within the so called bitcoin 2.0 environment and trade between them.

Additional: the more I think about it, the more its just another alt coin with fancy pairing abilities, you are right, lol.

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Once fascinated of vertoe`s service, I`ve decided to reload what he stopped because of time-consuming project. So....

Hello Darkcoin Community and lurkers.
Wanted to post here about my recent service.

Don`t you have your masternode yet?
Would you like to have at least some shaers?

I think your response is entirely valid and appropriate oblox. But I do think MyFarm raises a very important observance of a phenomena that's here in Darkcoin and many other crypto projects. We're very fortunate that we appear to have a lead dev that's somewhat impervious to all the glowing fanboy love that's showered on him (and I'm not for an instant suggesting Evan shouldn't be praised or given accolades for what he's achieved and continues to achieve) but there is massive amounts of confirmation bias at work in the many interactions between us all. For the project to become really robust and shock-proof this aspect of it needs to mature, which I believe it will, but more discussion on these psychological phenomena is required.

Meh, I think the constant stream of trolls and FUDers keep us pretty well grounded. I believe this is one of those conversations everyone FEELS like we should have, but that the factors leading to the need of the conversation simply don't exist.

Evan is absolutely, 100% a single point of failure.  While devs like Vertoe are amazing and worth their weight in gold, I do not believe (but would love to be wrong) that they can step into Evans shoes and get Darkcoin's core code to the point it needs to be.  There will come a point where Evan is no longer a single point of failure, but at this point, if Evan got hit by a bus or pulled a Mr. Spread, the value of Darkcoin would tank.  I suspect that won't be the case a year from now.

As someone who had a closer look or three into the Darkcoin-coding let me slightly disagree with you.

I am 100% positive that flare, vertoe and UdjinM6, supported by "my first language is blockchain!"-Aswan, "I integrate KeePass in one weekend"-freynder and Patrick "Netfilter" McHardy can do this.

Will it be easy? Certainly not.

Will they need a helping and or two? You bet!

But Darkcoin will survive!

Yep community here is second to none, brilliant. I added some more today as well, I think this is the "new" bottom...

Likewise.  I spent literally the last of my investable cash on DRK yesterday.  Lets see what this baby can do.
I certainly hope that Evan is no longer a single point of failure, but he is clearly a single point of serious injury. I again (at continued risk of insult) suggest that the DRK Foundation seriously consider taking a LARGE insurance policy out on Evan, for the benefit of his family and to hire developers/pay the current ones to devote full time to the project, should the worst happen. I am not an ins. salesman, but I am sure that for a young healthy person like Evan, a ten year level term policy would be very inexpensive and the foundation could easily justify its insurable interest for multiple millions of dollars. It would be a small price to pay to insure DRKs continued development, and to show Evan our appreciation.

@stonehedge: your investments are appreciated, I wish you many happy returns, I too want to see what this baby can do! Smiley

Hey guys can I run multiple MN's on the same VPS (IP)?
I cannot really understand how to setup MNs using start-many.

In summary, the Intel Management Engine and its applications are a backdoor with total access to and control over the rest of the PC. The ME is a threat to freedom, security, and privacy, and the libreboot project strongly recommends avoiding it entirely. Since recent versions of it can’t be removed, this means avoiding all recent generations of Intel hardware. details https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intelme --- https://tehnoetic.com/laptops --- https://store.vikings.net/x200-ryf-certfied

The insurance policy is a GREAT idea. The goal is to get Evan assassinated, yes?

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Quite the contrary! The primary motivation for such a hypothetical attempt would be to crush DRK in its infancy. If it were recognized that his passing would enable the hiring of a small army of full-time dedicated programmers this would only serve to disincentivize such an occurrence. Since the policy could be written with the foundation as the beneficiary, and stipulating its use to hire full-time developers, this removes the profit motive so popular in detective novels. It is not at all unusual for businesses to insure key personnel to protect against catastrophic loss. This is not fear mongering, it is a well recognized sound business practice.
