I've been a longtime supporter of the "Dark" name and concept and ideology. I'm an ex-IT Director turned machine smasher. I haven't seen the perfect new name yet. I certainly have reservations about "Dash". John Kerry on the TV just now say that "We have to stop DASH"
But if John Kerry is against it, I"M ALL FOR IT!

Remember there is also DASH the detergent brand from procter and gamble, DASH the Kardashians store, DASH some earphones, DASH the symbol -. I guess all those things need revision too. Do not submit to irrational fear, we are digital cash, it makes sense we will be fine.

I have to say, I admire your lack of vocabulary, and redundant ciclic regurgitation of FUD See what I did here people? I did NOT quote the troll. Whoops--sorry, I could not tell since I just added him to my ignore list as well. I have a very short ignore list (four now) since I like to hope that even a troll can on rare occasions utter something worth the few seconds it takes to read a post. In ALL his posts AW has failed to say anything even remotely worthy of the short time it takes to read them.

Xposting from DCT:
I have one last thing to say, the main argument I have heard against Dash is that it is a bland name. I think the people that feel this way are completely missing the point. We should with go with DASH precisely because it is a bland name, so we can build a strong brand out of it. Name != Brand
The problem with Darkcoin as a name is precisely that it is too explicit the name suggests a meaning and detracts from the brand, when the project adds other aspects to it that are not the ones explicitly described by the name. Take important examples in crypto: Circle and Square. They can be developed into great brands in crypto because the names do not suggest any meaning so in the crypto context Circle and Square just acquire the ideals associated with those companies. I am sure if Evan came up with the name Triangle people would be going crazy.
Another good example is Apple, some people might say, but Apple is a huge company, again missing the point. When Apple was back at the garage and Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs decided to call their new company like the fruit, apple was not yet Apple. Meaning the ideals, you have learn to associate with that brand, great design, user friendliness, good quality, were not present back at the garage, it was just a "bland" name. This property of blandness allowed it to develop into a brand.
Also, the "blandness" of the name, I really see it as flexibility of the brand and it is very important. You have to be capable of abstract thinking and projecting yourself into the future, back when Steve Jobs named Apple, apple, he was only thinking about computers not iPods, iPhones or iPads. Fortunately, their brand is flexible enough. Back when Evan named Darkcoin, darkcoin, he was not thinking about InstantX, scalability or decentralized applications and services that is why we need to change, we need something more flexible as we don't know what will come later.
Same thing applies to Dash, if Circle and Square work, Dash can work too, and if we work very hard, one day people will associate, privacy, freedom, transparency, great technology, decentralization with our brand. Brands take time and hard work to develop, so instead of fighting about a perfectly good name, we should think of ways we can project ideals that reflect the true essence of our project into our new brand. Dash will be great, in time.
Very well said.

There is no central risk. Look at Spreadcoin. Mr.Spread vanished, community took over. Problem solved.
I am quite the opposite of a geek, I am an investment guy (though a libertarian one with solid disrespect of the Fiat Empire) and I assure you there IS key man risk. Just imagine what would happen to the price if the news came out that Evan drops the project (or worse, think of Apple and Steve Jobs). It is a completely different matter that the damage could be repaired. The risk remains. Or the dev team explains it otherwise, but as you explain it, there is some key man risk. I really don`t mean this as fudding or anything, it is part of my job to consider such questions (think of: advising someone wether he should invest in DRK or not and explaining him the pros and cons, the risks and opportunities, doing due dilligence etc.). Not FUD at all... but very valid points! Again, no key man risk. For instance, vertoe had control over our transifex account. He tried to fuck us over, but could never killed us! We'll just have to create a new account for it, and I hope github can also feed transifex - idk, not geek enough to know - at worse we would have to start with the translations, but since most major ones are at 100% and already in the code, vertoe's move was really really mediocre and below his intellect. If Evan, god forbid, got run over a car tomorrow, of course, price you plummet because essencially HE is Darkcoin. Like Jobs WAS Apple, an no vertoe is not Woz. Jobs died, the company didn't, only the original vision. If Evan simply dissapeared and we could NOT take over or fork the project (because for example it was closed source, or some PGP key, or his fingerprint, etc etc bla bla ) - they you'd be right. There isnt. The rest you speak of is called market speculation. That is part of the engines that drives them and unavoidable. Technically, there is no key man risk - unless I am wrong - as long as things remain open-source uh... possibly off topic but, this is why I have repeatedly suggested that the foundation consider a rather large insurance policy on Evan. We have clear insurable interest and stipulating that the proceeds must be used to hire a slew of world-class devs, would actually serve to protect Evan.
