What happened to http://drk.smalltimeminer.com/??  It's not much...but they have my coins.  Looks like the domain was hijacked?

Looks dead and my coins along with it which were there

God Damn!
Had a little bit left over there also...

And now I can't even connect to the official pool...

Me too.. I only have about 8 coins there, but that is something... I would like them back.. I had auto payout set for 7 coins.. nothing yet..

Don't use pools that have centralized operators! This has been stressed over and over. Use p2p pools and you won't have these issues.
I'll set up a few p2pools if it's a general interest in mining on them and someone help me to set up that networks.py -file

Currently there's only a p2pool for DRK in South-Korea and it's very slow even from Singapore

Guys you are all in the dark! Tipscoin already has the mixer/enrypted transactions that darkcoin is supposedly working on! Stop speculating on the last horse to leave the starting line! lol  It was released yesterday... fully integrated wallet mixer. Tipscoin (aka fedoracoin) version 0.6  check it out at  http://fedoraco.in/, cheers!

Wow thanks for the tip, thanks for the coin pitch in the dark thread.

BRB switching my miners from dark to dark. Selling my dark to buy dark.

Hi, i'm actually new to dark coin, i see its been rising in value and i'm trying to find out if its speculation or manipulation...  I hear it has some new practical features that set it apart from other coins but no one explained them to me. I have been mining tips for a while now and its been quite a ride with the new mixer release yesterday the cherry on the sundae. Why is darkcoin going up so much lately though, it seems to be based upon the idea of the mixer also but it says to come... I hear there is different algorythms in darkcoin, what do they change practically or for security, does it operate through Tor like Tipscoin?

tips mixing service cost 2% fee!! And tips is based off old GPU melting scrypt algo. I don't think tips has anti multipool. It's definitely not asic resistant. I like tips too, I think it is a great coin... but darkcoin is in another league right now.

Yea it does cost 2%, but if you operate your own mixing then its free. It is better than anti multipool... you actually want the multipools because they bring a lot of hashrate, what you dont want is them to leave, because it slows down the rest of block finding after until the difficulty readjusts..

last week Tipscoin implemented the gravity pool algorythm

so now, there is barely any effect when multipools leave... tips is actually mined more than doge now by multipools, its the most profitable coin last time i checked thats why they are on it.... makes sense to be most profitable, no?

As for asic resistant, who cares? its irrelevant who mines as long as someone does and it doesnt get more than 50% of the network hashrate. In fact when asics are pointed towards a coin it increases it value because it means its valuable enough to point asics at it. look at bitcoin....  Look at bitcoin first, look at tipscoin mixer, first... imo

Who in their right mind would want to pay 2% of their transaction towards a fee each time? The requirements to run a mixing node is 2 servers, in 2 seperate locations. Darkcoin doesn't require all that. Kimoto gravity well was implemented I see, that's good. Fedoracoin is a good coin, but it can't compete with darkcoin atm.

Darkcoin uses the mixing without a 2% fee, that alone is huge. Darkcoin algo is asic resistant and makes it profitable to cpu-mine. My gpu temps lower by 20c compared to scrypt mining

That simply signals that the code doesn't utilize your GPU enough, not using enough parallellization or intensity is too low.
Hardly an argument for DRK over dogi or kitty or wtf.  Grin

As for asic resistant, who cares?
Yep, and after some time (maybe 2-3 years) you're going to run and scream if someone send 30% of all mined coins in system to exchange's wallet. Like in bitcoin now.
Asics eventually prevent decentralization, the key idea of cc's, at some point 2-3 mining centers can the entire network, they can manipulate on exchanges etc.

Is the hype dying out now?
This isn't a coin we need to hype.  We're letting the qualities of the coin and the developers speak for itself.  Word will get around on its own.  Most of us are in this for the long term, not pump and dump like most coins as we understand what we have here.

I understand and agree with you but VTC had good tech and they were also and they have been forgotten about, a little hype is needed for a coins survival, what's to stop another coin coming along like this with a better marketing strategy and just taking the spotlight.

Vert has nice developers and asic resistance is good I guess but what does the coin bring me as a user?

Completely agree and that's true but it's not the point I'm making, just because a coin has decent tech doesn't mean it's going to survive, Doge is just a clone and that's getting thousands of people daily because of hype. I do think this coin is a likely contender for top 5 cryptos but people need to know about it and there needs to be a little hype.
Spread the word man. It cant hurt. Dont shove it down peoples throats though LOL

There is a reverse psychology effect when you promote a coin (and especially if you are doing it aggressively or shoving it which is totally the wrong way). People think you are trying to scam them to buy in in a pyramid scheme where you'll dump your coins on them. On the other hand, people will value what they themselves assessed as something that is worthy of their time, mining efforts or money (as investors).
Exactly.  I'm an investor.  I don't mine.  I'm buying a few different coins for the longer term.  Darkcoin is one of only a few coins out there that fit my very strict criteria.  While I am no Warren Buffet, you don't see Warren Buffet out hyping his stocks.  He buys quality stocks based upon strict criteria as he knows that the probability for appreciation over the longer term is very high.  He doesn't need to convince others to buy those stocks because the stocks will speak for themselves over time.

More than hype, this coin could use various user-friendly guides and information to help those who want to adopt it to do so.  A percentage of people are having trouble and we want to reduce that barrier to entry.

Nice, thanks for the info guys. But the 2% fee is for now, it was announced that the fees would soon be at the discretion of the people operating the mixing nodes. So you can set your own fee, plus make a profit doing it too.... its a microeconomy within the coin.... but best of luck on darkcoin, cheers

Yep, both cpu miner and special sgminer for darkcoin algorithms can be compiled from source.

Personally I don't have any interest in holding alt coins, so I dont want to take the trouble of installing all kinds of wallets and downloading tons of new blockchains. I would prefer to mine in a centralized pool and transfer my earnings to an exchange for BTC... I know many others have a different view or opinion.. but thats how I like to do things..

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

On the technology front, Darksend is based upon CoinJoin which you can read about here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=279249.0

On the marketing front, we're not named Fedora Coin and don't have to go to other people's threads to try and get people to buy our dying coin.
