With the regular increments in which this happens, I'm starting to think that these repetitive . . random spikes are due to a bug in the difficulty retargeting .  . or we just got really lucky and solved enough blocks in such a fast time that the retarget put it so high. Either way . . it's at 10k now and that doesn't seem very good.

What methods are new with darksend in the daemon ? I was trying to see how to darksend works darkcoind but --help just gives the usual info.

Nothing cosmetic was changed, it was all internal.

I'm seeing 700 difficulty in wallet and also in pool.

But that 10K spike was recorded by this http://coinz.co.vu/diff/?drk , makes the chart pretty useless now lol,

DarkSend Beta Version 3.5 (v8.9.7)

- Session ID's are now tied to the blockHeight, so they'll be much more stable. Some users were reporting stale DarkSend messages all of the time because they couldn't sync.

What's Next?
The next update is going to be a big one, it'll probably take me a week maybe.

Currently the network uses 1 master node, so it's a centralized implementation. I'm going to write some tamper proof logic to pick a random node from the network and elect it as the master. This is a neat implementation, because when you leave on your client it supports the network and you'll randomly receive fees when people try to attack DarkSend ( or turn off their clients in mid-transaction, lose their internet connection, etc ). We should see a really healthy amount of full nodes because of this, maybe even more than Bitcoin itself eventually.

I may want to make out with you.  But totally not in a gay way.

I'd make out with you too, except I'm old and icky and it'd be like making out with my kid.... ooooh, gitting REALLY goss now!

The actual equipment necessary is tremendous if it were to do this naturally. Boiling everything down to i7 processors and r9 290's . . in order to double the difficulty . . you need double the equipment. Looking at suchpool.pw . . the net hashes right now are 12g#. Taking this as normal with 306 difficulty . . then the hashes number would need to double to take it to 612 difficulty. Then double again to take it to 1224 difficulty. Then double again to take it to 2500 difficulty, again to 5k, and one last time to 10k difficulty. This ends up being 2^5.

So @ 12 g#, we'd need about 5517 R9 290's . . or about 33k i7 processors just to have it there now.

Doubling this . . 11304 290's, 66k i7's . . about $5.8 million in just GPU hardware ($21 million in processors)
Double again . . 22068 290's, 132k i7's
Double again . . 44136 290's, 264k i7's
Double yet again . . 88272 290's, 528k i7's
One last doubling . . 176544 290's, 1M i7's


Also, normalizing to Scrypt . . a 10k difficulty for this coin is a difficulty of 3872.

Last I checked no one person had pretty much the entire Litecoin network in hashing power . . so I really need to lean toward a bug or serious exploit in the difficulty retargeting algorithm.

Someone please let me know how far off I am.

There is no guarantee anywhere.  If there is money to be made to create an ASIC that can handle all 11 algorithms, someone will make it.  I don't think we'll be there for at least a few years, but then what do I know?  Everything happens faster now than with the original Bitcoin.

Darkcoin's asic resistance is mainly do to the quantity of different algorithms that need to be implemented. asics could be made, however it's just a lot more work than making them for a single-algorithm coin. Adaptive-nfactor is much more effective asic resistance, as the memory requirements increase over time, so even if asics were to be made they would be rendered useless over time.

Just a shot in the dark here (no pun), but could beta v3 have introduced any bugs vis-a-vis difficulty/nethash? It just seems way too high even now though it has dropped  (to the 700s  Roll Eyes)

Darkcoin's asic resistance is mainly do to the quantity of different algorithms that need to be implemented. asics could be made, however it's just a lot more work than making them for a single-algorithm coin. Adaptive-nfactor is much more effective asic resistance, as the memory requirements increase over time, so even if asics were to be made they would be rendered useless over time.

I think it isn't as ideal as it sounds for adaptive-nfactor. I mean if someone equips an ASIC board with, say, multiple times the RAM that current GPUs have, they can have a significant advantage in raping the coin. If the coin "adapts" to a higher memory requirement, then it'll lock out the current GPUs that most ordinary miners use - furthering the ASIC advantage of the whale who is already ahead of the GPUs. Am I missing something?
