1) To further clarify, the transaction does NOT instantly appear on the blockchain. If you're watching something like blockchain.info, they are running a NODE that picks up the transaction almost immediately. It doesn't get stored on the blockchain until "2)".

2) The block finder indeed confirms it is valid before adding it to its newly minted block, but every other NODE also confirms the transaction(s) is/are valid before accepting the newly minted block in its own local blockchain. Indeed, 100% of the nodes confirm the transaction (otherwise they would reject the block and get left behind), however, the network will continue to function properly as long as a majority of the hashing power has consensus. Other nodes can go their own way and reject the TX/block (creating their own fork), but no one will care; the "mishaving" node(s) will be left behind.

3) +1 to previous reply. Additionally, the "recommended" amount of confirms is 6 (5 blocks minted after your TX was included). However, the receiver is free to do whatever they want. Bitpay for example requires 0 confirms (pay for something at Newegg for example, and you'll see it say that your payment is accepted, usually within 1-5 seconds of you hitting "Send").

1) Great! You are right, my observation was based on blockchain.info that immediately picked up my transactions, the delay was literally less than a second. Does this mean that blockchain.info is running their own miner that picks up the transactions or is the NODE just a running wallet?

1) It could be a miner or just a regular node. It matters not. All nodes process transactions and blocks, regardless of if they are mining, to verify that they are valid before including them in their local version of "the blockchain".

Would have the opposite effect. Coin reward is tied to difficulty with a floor of 5 right now (more mining power = higher difficulty = lower block reward until floor level).

So still, mining is necessary and I am thinking about buying the most profitable device I can afford.

Yes, ofcourse, pretty much everything in my life has a bill attached to it.
But I am still not sure, of all the miners who are mining DRK at the moment, what is their preferred device ATM?
Most of them still using CPU? Don't think so...

Are many using a GPU? If yes, is DRK minable with any GPU?
Is DRK minable with a Gridseed Blade?

I want to help secure my DRK holdings, by helping the network. I need to mine DRK, not to make a profit, (I'd rather buy the coins) but to help strengthen the network.

I pull about 6 DRK/day on 3.3TH/s and electricity be damned; it's a business expense for my umbrella corporation's wide range of research. Pay the Guvthugs or pay the Power Company. Either way I'm paying. May as well get me some DRKs. I don't actually mine anything to myself, and I don't buy/sell/trade anything... The pool switches the coins, so I don't even know what I'm mining or any prices, etc. Don't care as long as the DRKs show up.

xpool.ca currently doesn't mine several of the more profitable SHA256/DR coins because it doesn't have the hashpower to actually trap blocks. I've talked to the operator about it and there are some coins that would be quite a bit more profitable if there were more hashpower to justify chasing them. I'll be tossing another Neptune or two at it in the near future.

Right now, I average 60% of the entire pool's hashing power, so you can see that even 1.6TH/s could bump it up to more profitable coins, so by all means, come along. You'd probably get ~3 DRK/day.

You're not mining directly, but you are reducing a portion of the daily mined influx, and that is essentially the same thing when it comes to "supporting the network." Essentially, DRK ASICs already exist, you just can't see their hashpower in the grid, nor would it earn you anything if it did... You can also throw all the hashpower you want at a single pool and there's no change of 51% on the coin you actually care about...

While it has some obvious cons, it has pluses.

1) SHA256/DR isn't useful for mining any SHA256/DR coin directly anymore, so it extends the profitable life of your equipment. Neptunes are still being delivered, and mining BTC, they cannot possibly pay for themselves, much less the electricity they use. All other SHA256/DR mining ASICs are inferior to the Neptune, so they're in an even worse situation. My son runs my old BFL 30GH on free electrons... He may pull .1DRK/2days, but how much is .1BTC worth now? That machine hasn't been worth plugging in for almost a year now, but he gets a few DRK a month out of it, for now... What would you give for a handful of BTC that cost you $2.50ea 6 years ago?

2) Can't 51% the coin you actually care about. This actually happened to DRK when a multipool was flashing it with heavy hash power a while back... Sucks for the coins being cycled, but they're not DRK, therefore, do not matter.

3) Takes DRK out of the supply as it's mined. Not a lot, but some. DRK is still hammered to the 5DRK/block floor. Mining it directly is not anywhere close to profitable. Mining DRK is 100% futures/speculative, just like buying.
