My 45 DRK sits on cryptsy. I'd like to have them on a local wallet but I need ubuntu .deb package to install the wallet. I think I'll wait for the open source full release version, after that there should be official packages for major linux distros. I can download the sources and compile myself but with those fast new releases it'll take too muck time updating wallets.

Another question for the devs: will there be official packages like ubuntu, debian, redhat etc..?  We need an easy way to install wallets on linux.

No! I'll not touch anything money related on windows.

On the 29th you'll have the source, you can compile it on anything.

In the meantime you can use the linux binaries here: https://www.darkcoin.io/getstarted.html

...or here: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc5-testing.2245/page-48#post-21678

I know there are linux binaries but updating will be time consuming. I'd like a official ubuntu repo for binaries that can be updated with a single apt-get update command.
Now I have very little DRK, only 45 so I can leave them on exchange site. I'm a small miner and I'm mining on multipools and buy DRK with BTC. My rig makes about 0.003BTC a day.

Time consuming? Download, make executable, run. Probably quicker than apt-getting.

Hello DRK comrades!

I have a little bit BTC (0.3 something, yeah I know I'M poor) Please advice me an exchange site. I'm using cryptsy but the volume there is too low. I'll try to learn trading. I know I'll be losing but I'd like to learn just for the fun of it. 0.3BTC is not much I think.

I heard a lot of good things about mintpal. Plus mintpal's trading fees are 40% less than cryptsy. Enjoy!:)

first I need to know if there is an update then download the binary. apt-get makes this automatic so I do not need to look for the updates of all my software on my computer. That's why I'm waiting for an official DRK wallet repo for ubuntu. I'm using linux mint but it uses ubuntu repos, an ubuntu package repo (They are know as PPA) will make it easier for a lot of users.

Many packages in official repos are often months out of date. I wouldn't count on the repo maintainers to give any priority to darkcoin builds.

it would ne nice to have a backup of your wallet.dat with a "timestamp" to prevent from overwriting in update situations or something like that.
wallet_09_09_2014_1.dat or someting like that. This backup should be created every time a user open his wallet.  There are so many coins destroyed in such situations...
Sometimes I wonder what is the real available supply. I don't think there is a big difference for DRK, but for older coins like BTC I think it can be quite significant.

Why ? You have a menu item where you can do this. And it's you responsibility to make backups.
Would you like to end up with 100ts of wallet_XYZ:MIN:SEC:MILISEC:.dat files ?

i bet the everage user doesn't use this to make backups. one auto backup per session would be ok. just want to make that bulletproof, in the future people who can't read must be able to use it safe.
think of all the smartphone users in africa or india who need a drk "bank account".

Just BACK UP ANY OF YOUR IMPORTANT DATA !!
It's your data, your backup, you should have the feeling for having it backed up.

For f* sake, take some responsibility for your stuff !
If you are lazy, use ANY OF THE FREE sync solutions, or Time Machine like Free software that makes backup for you, or LEARN TO USE USB STICK and make backup by hand once in an while.

Take responsibility !

The next 'idea' will be to implement some antivirus against trojans that you download and that purge/copy/send2someone your wallet.dat file ??!!

If you can't mine I would suggest getting an account on an exchange either cryptsy, mintpal, etc. either purchase btc and buy dark or find a good coin with lots of faucets and just use your exchange deposit address and when u get up some coins dump them for drk. I've found that bitcoindark has a nice faucet that gives a decent amount twice a day and you could have enough for 1 drk in a couple of weeks.

As one of my first Darkcoin Foundation initiatives and in the spirit of RC5 (it sure is great to have anon coins at the ready to use whenever you want!) I want to announce the:

Minotaur Labyrinth - Darkcoin Giveaway Contest. with a prize of 26DRK  Grin.

Participants must be newcomers to Darkcoin, no known trolls, no known supporters or brand new accounts. All you have to do is answer two questions here in the forum:

Why should someone invest in Darkcoin?

How Darksend works?

I will take known supporters opinion as to which is the best answer and pick a winner. Feel free to be creative but your answer must make sense, lets have some fun.

Important: It is not officially open yet, at this point I would like some feedback from known supporters, what do you think of the idea and do you have any rule suggestions?  If the idea has good acceptance we will officially open the contest in a couple of hours.  You will know for how long it will be running and when the winner would be picked.

Let me know what you guys think, is this something you would like to do? We could do more contests like this later for other things too.

By saying official repos, I'm not saying the official ubuntu repos, All I need is a PPA repo maintained by a official team member (one of the devs or something) so we can use official darkcoin repo.

Yes, as usual, you're wrong. Last time you were here you were touting your shitcoin that was supposed to be superior to drk, but look what happened lol.

Darkcoin is actually ready to be fully released (anon features are now ready, and open source in less than a week), and will be ready to be marketed to vendors and retailers. It's very different from coins that might get anon in 2 months and other features only on the roadmap months into the future with all kinds of potential problems that might arise.

No I'm not wrong. I was here when cloak was still trading under 100K. It peaked at 350K and sat around 200K till the devs failed on POSA V2.

If you guys would have listened to me then and picked some up you could have seen 200% if you weren't greedy.

DRK is still nowhere, and in the mean time the other coins I been speaking about on the forums have seen over 600% gains.

XST, LXC, xcloud (200%) I can go on but you get the point I'm sure.

Strength in numbers!

How can I fuck people on cloak. The devs went silent after the failed PoSA V2 audit.

I was just smart enough to see it coming and got out the majority of my stack before then. I call that smart money.

I dont fall in love with coins and neither should you guys.. Unless its Bitcoin. That coin is safe to fall in love with and HODL for the long run.

Be ready guys, all the trolls one day will come to drk, after all their super hyper cool shitcoins will disappear.
There will remain only a couple of the coins with real value.
DRK is one of them if not the only one.

Bob you see me I don`t see you Tongue and it is very very cool feeling.

BE SMART, USE DASH ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
