cryptos are risk assets, not safe havens, so don't expect people to put money in them once full risk aversion kicks in. I don't think it's yet been decided what they are. Your right that when seen in the context of a stock they're risk assets but the precedents of Cyprus, Argentina and Spain say that they are also seen as an escape route in a bank run. That's because crypto has one thing that classical "stock" doesn't have - it can function as a realtime monetary medium, plus one property that classical money doesn't have - it's unlevered base money as opposed to highly levered debt money. We've never been in this situation before which is why trying to project legacy asset categories onto cryptocurrencies is only ever going to tell half the story I think. P.S. Greece is back. Bond yields spiking at the same time as their Debt-to-GDP ratio. We're back to 2011 territory. The troika will have to dust themselves off and start creating some new "rescue vehicles". What's it going to be this time I wonder ? Default is usually not on the cards at any cost.

You're right that they're not strictly that, the exception would be their usefulness for circumventing capital controls like it happened in Cyprus once, or in Russia and China all the time. But anyone else on the planet needn't circumvent authoritarian restrictions in such volumes, so a risk-off environment is overall negative for cryptos. If we get to the point of mass defaults and bail-ins start to happen it would be a different story, though.

There is even the possibility that Flare and I "may" team-up, nothing has been talked about yet, it's just on the table at this point.
Multiple independent MN services/operators is better than one huge one.

It would be good to have a collated list of potential masternode hosts - including the private ones on the list here.
I don't know if I want to continue with Amazon. I've taken my masternode down and I'm scared to put it back up because I just get charges flying straight into my bank account from nowhere.
I really have no clue how to predict what they're going to charge me - even though I'm on the so called "free tier".

You need to read what the free tier is very carefully. You only get a certain number of instance hours per month on the free tier and some instances aren't eligible for the free tier at all. There is a price calculator in the AWS billing section that will allow you to almost exactly predict your bills including data transfer. I must admit, the wording is not clear in relation to the free tier but now I have spent some time reading it, it makes sense and my bills are perfectly predictable.

Thanks ! I'll take a look at that and try to understand it in a bit more depth.

I've moved all but one of mine (other reasons for keeping that one there) off Amazon and onto a provider with a sensible 500GB monthly bandwidth and better hardware specs. Fixed monthly cost, no surprises.

So what's the difference between untrusted and trustless?
trusstles: the systems needs no trust (eg. using security desposits/forfeit higher than the transaction in question) untrusted: the system needs trust (like mintpal, gox, etc, where someone can run away with your money) but you dont have trust. i hope that wasnt a retorical question, in that case, i apologise

https://www.mintpal.com/"MintPal is currently down for a number of necessary changes and fixes. A separate method of withdrawing funds will be made available on October 16th, 2014. So who wants to speculate when this method is actually going to be available?

WTB DRK. Pm me Thats interesting. Evan's wanting DRK. Either: - he needs it for engineering purposes - he's about to do something that's going to send the price sky high (thank god for unregulated markets eh ?! ) - he used his real DRK on testnet by mistake and lost it - he spent all his DRK on coffee and needs more coffee Which one is it ?
