I've been searching this thread and some other places, and I have a few issues:

I keep seeing things about bitcoin.conf, no such file exists on my comp. Do I have to download this or something?

2. How do I actually start up the script from the front page?

3. I've been on and sending to the pool, but my profile still reads as nothing having been requested. Is there another step I need to do other than setting the options to point to your IP/Port?

I've been searching this thread and some other places, and I have a few issues:

I keep seeing things about bitcoin.conf, no such file exists on my comp. Do I have to download this or something?

Bitcoin.conf is a configuration file used specifically for the RPC server build into the bitcoin application. It must be created in the %appdata%\Bitcoin folder.

Some examples of what to put in it are located throughout this thread.

2. How do I actually start up the script from the front page?

I don't quite understand your question. Could you elaborate? What script? What front page?

3. I've been on and sending to the pool, but my profile still reads as nothing having been requested. Is there another step I need to do other than setting the options to point to your IP/Port?

Assuming your miner is connected to our pool (bitcoinpool.com port 8334) and you have the correct username and password specified (use the one you signed up on our site with) then everything should be tracking. The only time you wont get credit for shares is if you are submitting answers for old blocks, submitting duplicated answers, or answers that don't properly hash.

I hope that helps. If you can provide screenshots, I can help further if you need it.

When trying:
http://www.bitcoinpool.com/block.php?block=113758
I get "direct access to this location is not allowed"
That is the case even when following the link on the homepage. Bug or feature?

Gives error "Direct access to this location is not allowed."

How to logon to the site bitcoinpool.com with the user name & password, besides new user, there is no link to login to bitcoinpool.com.

Thanks for the continued abuse ... I don't Troll .. people just don't like what I say
I'm sorry my QUESTIONS were considered insults they were not meant as such
Insulting me and name calling just gets things started
Constant threats to ban don't gain anything
Others that have to comment and add nothing useful don't help
I'll try to be more patient

Do your time as you will I just don't understand the problem with correct one place wrong another
I use Linux & Winblows my self. and I Never had any Time problem

my main concern now is the added workers after days of work
that's not cool

bobR,

The reason the page might have time displayed incorrectly is because I have written thousands of lines of code in the past 3 weeks, and on top of that, have been making as many changes as I possibly can, as fast as I can, based on the suggestions of users in the forum.

All server times are stored in PST/PDT formatted in seconds from  epoch. When displayed on the website, the correct number of seconds is added to those times in order to make it UTC/GMT timezone.

I add seconds instead of changing the system time so that I don't have to go into the database and manually correct the timestamp on everything. So, as far as the pool server is concerned, the time is correct. As far as the website is concerned, I'll get around to fixing it when I can.

Likewise, If you post one more time insulting us over something as petty as the displayed time on the website, I will ban your account and your IP without hesitation. You have absolutely no clue how much work goes into making this run or, how many lines of code I have to sift through in order to fix an issue when someone reports a problem.

I assure you, both FairUser and I have a long list of things that need written, fixed, or improved, and the displayed UTC time on one of the many pages that shows you the exact same datestamp, is not very fucking high on the priority list. We've been operating for a week, and the pool/site is still in beta. It takes time to iron out all of the kinks.

So, be patient, take some initiative, read some help files, politely inform us when you see something that might be a bug, and have fun mining.

We got that fixed.  Someone was trying to access one of the sub PHP files directly (the one that calls to the round duration timer) and it was causing problems.  The error you saw was our way of fixing that, but we went a bit over board.  Whoops. Smiley

Thank you for reporting the problem.

1) How many people really want to be able to increase their payment threshold, and why?
Big number of small free transactions is not optimal for bitcoin network, they may be delayed if you get more users and more frequent blocks.

That is a good point.  Thanks.

Port 8334? I'm connected on port 8332 which is the default....

We started with port 8334.  Then we noticed several people trying on port 8332.  So we redirected port 8332 to 8334 on the router.  Now both ports 8332 and 8334 go to the same port on the server.

We just had another hiccup with python.  For some reason it quit responding to some requests but not others.  I double checked to make sure this wasn't a SYN flood, and it doesn't appear to be any sort of attack.  I do find it curious how the server likes to do this right before I go to bed though. Go figure.

Regardless, it's kinda of a strange phenomenon going on, but tomorrow I think I'll be working on a systems check script to run in the background to make sure that when this happens again, it gets detects the affected service at a reasonable rate, restarts the affected services, and sends me a SMS message so I know what's going on (which will improve response time and reduce down time).

Gotta love the beta stage...mostly working, but sometimes broken. Smiley

Thank you for your patience and tolerance, we do appreciate it.

We just had another hiccup with python.  For some reason it quit responding to some requests but not others.  I double checked to make sure this wasn't a SYN flood, and it doesn't appear to be any sort of attack.  I do find it curious how the server likes to do this right before I go to bed though. Go figure.

Is this based on poold.py?  That does a thread per connection.  If you get too many connections at once, or too many connections total, you can hit your OS's per-process or per-thread thread limits.

During the mining pool test I ran, that happened at least once.

Glad to see you are supporting long polling. I've switched back to regular poclbm just for consistency with the other pools.

Are you still accepting blocks from the previous round and giving credit for those blocks. If so, I would be curious as to the percentage of credit from those blocks. I am running miners on three different pools right now as an experiment and bp isn't doing so well in comparison at present. Not statistically significant yet though. Was just curious if stale submitions are hurting the pool.

No, and we never have given credit for blocks from previous rounds.  We only give credit currentBlock-1 to the current block of the bitcoin network in the current round.  We will be changing this back to current block only this weekend.

If so, I would be curious as to the percentage of credit from those blocks. I am running miners on three different pools right now as an experiment and bp isn't doing so well in comparison at present. Not statistically significant yet though. Stale submission's don't hurt the pool because we reject them, they just don't get counted by us which means the miner just wasted some time.  I think it is far more likely that the other pools are doing "better" because they have more users and operates at a faster Ghash/s.  I'm not sure as to the efficiency of those pools, but I can tell you that when our pool is running @ ~4 Ghash/s, it's only using up ~ 30KB of bandwidth...which is nothing on a 50/50 Mbps connection and quad-core server.

To me, the extra bandwidth and server load isn't a big deal, hence why I wanted to start a server with no fees or forced donations.

BTW, Geebus would be able to answer this better, but *i think* our modified miner supports long polling now too.  He said yesterday he was working on it, but I'm not sure if he got it done yet.  I know we have long-polling working server side right now, but it's been buggy and we're working on some changes we hope will make it better.

Geebus, can you fill in the blanks here about poclbm-mod??
