Solarcoin is what I have been waiting for. Too many copycoins out there that have very little purpose or innovation. I think that once the community embraces this coin (after people research the coin and do not just jump to conclusions after reading the premine code) this coin will take off.
All I can say is, I hope the devs of this coin are legitimate. Since this coin has a centralized aspect the Devs have to be silent? I've only seen Nick step up and say he is a "volunteer". I see that he is only accepting donations for his time on the Solarcoin website.
Nick, what do we know about the Devs of this coin? Who is on the board that controls the majority of these coins? I'm probably missing this information so please forgive me if it's right in front of my face.

Developers are busy at work on the back end getting the solar energy rewards system implemented with a few different countries' NGOs. In the meantime, enjoy the low diff.

Is anyone else having trouble getting their wallet to sync? Downloaded and installed.. even added .conf file... will not sync.
FYI - I have plenty of experience installing and configuring wallets... this one is not being cooperative.
EDIT - found these addnodes on the second page of the thread which I missed the first time I browsed the thread..
addnode=65.254.248.148 addnode=173.246.103.92 addnode=204.236.196.51 addnode=54.208.219.204
wallet is syncing now.

Worked fine for me under windows. Some addnodes from somebody would help...

The supply of SLR is fully documented and comprised of the following: - The Mining Pool: 105 Million SolarCoins (0.1%) to be publicly mined over the next 40 years. All publicly mined SolarCoins represent historically generated and unclaimed solar electricity.
- The Generator Pool: 97.5 Billion SolarCoins (99.4%) are currently stored in the OCA non-circulating generation pool account. These will be exchanged for “proof of work” claims of solar electricity generation submitted over the next 40 years at the rate of 1 SLR per MWh of solar energy.
- The Genesis Pool: 500 Million SolarCoins (0.5%) are stored in the genesis pool account for environmental charities, early volunteers, advisers, builders and maintainers of SolarCoin infrastructure. Genesis pool circulation is capped so that it will never represent more than 5% of total SolarCoin in circulation.
So what you are saying is: One person controls the accounts that contain 97.5 Billion + 500 Million Solarcoins. There is NOTHING preventing this person from dipping into that fund or running off with it.
If solarcoin ever became worth $0.10 that would mean the dev, one man controls an account with access to $9,750,000,000. I don't care if you are Mahatma fucking Gandhi, I'm not trusting you with that kind of money. You are also centralizing the currency which is the whole fucking reason we've turned to cryptocurrencies in the first place. At least with the fed there isnt a single point of failure. One guy can't run off with 99% of America's money.
MASSIVE FAIL. DO NOT MINE.

Might be worth 10 cents, but where will you find 10 billion dollars worth of trade? If that were to occur the market price would quickly fall to zero as there's a glut of coins on the market. The people behind this coin are some very large movers that have long term vision for this coin and this technology. Decentralization is an important part of Bitcoin but it's not it's only feature that's important. Bitcoin is a store of value pegged to decentralization. Solarcoin is a store of value pegged to energy production. If you can find a way to decentralize Solarcoin, I'd be very interested in hearing about it as would many others. I don't know how an anonymous decentralized currency is supposed verify and pay production claims. Yes Solarcoin is different. It's very different. The market will decide it's value based on the parameters of the technology and it's performance/claims. Basing your judgement on it's weaknesses is not a good way to compare this coin's potential.
