This topic was recently brought up in our forum and happen to run across it again today on newsbtc. No FinCEN Implications For Bitcoin Developers

"Based on the information found in the current FinCEN regulation draft – created back in 2013 – there is no need to assume hard forking Bitcoin would make the new solution a money services business. No administrator is overseeing the Bitcoin protocol for FinCEN regulations, which also removes the need for developers to register as a money transmitter."

Edit: Coindesk did the same story. I guess they were receiving a lot of concern. http://www.coindesk.com/forking-bitcoin-msb-legal-issues/

Maybe we need this on DCEBrief as well.

Thanks for that, Dnotes. My concern was whether -- it would be a possibility here in Australia -- the authorities could/would use such an uncertainty as an opportunity to obfuscate the situation.

And this article -- http://dcebrief.com/east-vs-west-%C2%AD-the-bitcoin-community-reaches-a-global-crossroads ?? It's really good.

An article in Fortune is claiming that investors have lost an amount equal to the GDP of Canada so far this year (all 6 weeks of it!).

What difference A Year Can Make?

Tomorrow, February 18, 2016 will be the 2nd Birthday of DNotes. It is also a full year when CRISP For Retirement was launched. The news clipping below was the shortest one I found and thought that it is a fitting reminder of our ways of helping “someone else” to provide some “relief for underfunded retirement accounts”

If you check out:  http://dnotesvault.com/crisp-for-retirement.php

Below is the latest data:

Not bad for participation, for those who are with us for the long-term.

CRISP for Retirement Statistics
Funded Retirement Accounts   252
Principal Deposit Value   79,073.21 USD
Total Interest Payments   383,780 NOTE
Current USD Value   43,487.78 USD
Current DNotes   6,344,372 NOTE
Retirement Fund Bonus Balance   616,220 NOTE

So what difference a year can make?

A lot. The value of DNotes had fallen by more than 75% from its high of $1.6 million at one point but has recently recovered a little. Frankly, that was our biggest surprise of the year. It is a case of supply and demand. Obviously, a lot more people were selling than buying DNotes. That is how the forces of free market work.

The good news is that we never missed a beat. CryptoMoms’ traffic has been climbing to over 100 visitors a day with rapidly increasing number of registered members of 17564 at the time of this post. Both CryptoMoms’ and DNotes Bitcointalk forums have been well supported by our communities with a lot of educational and helpful posts. We have since launched CRISP For Students, and CRISP For Employee Incentive Benefits. Additionally, we have launched our own news site, DCEBrief flawlessly. DCEBrief is gaining great respect from our industry. The most amazing of all is that a book titled “Improve Your Odds – The Four Pillars of Business Success” is now close to completion, to be published in two months. The book will be a revenue generator for the new company, with DNotes owning up to 25%. We are lean and agile; allow us to accomplish a lot with very little. Now, imagine what we can do if the book becomes a big hit, which I believe has a high probability. PM me with your email, if you are interested to read the Introduction and Chapter One.  Wow! What a difference a year can make!

Cryptocurrency DNotes Debuts Retirement Savings Plan

Massimo Leung February 18, 2015

Cryptocurrency DNotes has launched a new savings plan to provide relief for underfunded individual retirement accounts.

According to DNotes Co-Founder Alan Yong, one million DNotes have been donated to Cryptocurrency Investment Savings Plan (CRISP) for Retirement to encourage savers to supplement their underfunded individual retirement accounts. Yong noted that individuals who commit to DNotes deposits of 5, 10, 15, or 20 years duration will receive a 100 percent deposit guarantee, and up to 12 percent yearly interest bonus on their deposit with 1 million DNotes limit on the bonus interest offered.

Yong went on to explain that not everyone has the means or ability to save for retirement, resulting in many reaching retirement age with social security as their only source of income.
RJF, Director of CR.I.S.P. for Retirement, also commented:

In these uncertain financial times, it is becoming more and more difficult to maintain a retirement account that will actually see you through your golden years. We believe that the concept of using DNotes to augment your retirement savings is an important consideration.

RJF went on to explain that CR.I.S.P. for Retirement is an unstructured and self-directed plan, using DNotes as the investment vehicle to supplement retirement savings, and re-occurring savings, in any amount, may be added at any time. The savings plan can apparently be started with any amount of DNotes by opening an account at DNotesVault with an expanded registration at CRISP for Retirement landing page.

CRISP is the brain-child of Chase, a core team member of CryptoMoms – a community with an avowed mission to encourage and assist women to participate in the cryptocurrency world currently dominated by men. CryptoMoms.com is a currency neutral site, offering content regarding cryptocurrency, which was created by and fully funded by the DNotes team.

Among the DNotes team’s various objectives, DNotesVault will be utilized to build the next generation of DNotes stakeholders using CRISP for kids and CRISP for students to be followed by other programs.

Yong stressed that,

"The beauty of DNotesVault is that we can setup and launch a new plan or program, such as a charity fund raising, as quickly as needed".

DNotes, DNotesVault, and CryptoMoms are all strategically linked.

DNotes has as a market cap of US$923,102 and 96,647,701 available supply.

Great article Evander, it is an interesting form of democracy, though I think the miners may have too much power over the decision making process.

Evander made some great points in this article. The process has been both constructive and destructive for bitcoin and there isn't any formal communication between the parties involved, minimal interaction with the general public, leading the developers to guess at what everyone interested wants. Miners are interested in making a profit not in the Democratic process or working in the best interest of bitcoin on the whole. Reaching consensus on the direction of bitcoin could very well be it's biggest challenge.

Pretty interesting. The important note is how the SEC classified mining contracts. SEC Seeks $10 Million Default Judgment Against GAW Miners.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seeking more than $10m from the cryptocurrency mining firms GAW Miners and ZenMiner in connection with its ongoing securities fraud suit.

The agency filed suit against the firms and former CEO Homero Josh Garza in December. The SEC sought a motion for entry of default against the firms last month.

Garza and the companies are accused of defrauding investors, and operating a Ponzi scheme in connection with its now-defunct mining service by selling more mining power than it actually possessed.

The SEC argued in its motion for default judgment, filed on 12th February, that Hashlets – mining contracts sold by GAW in 2014 through an internal market it maintained – constitute securities under the Securities Act and Exchange Act.

The filing states:

"The Commission respectfully requests that this court enter final judgment against defendants GAW Miners and ZenMiner and that that judgment permanently enjoin those entities from future securities law violations and order them to pay disgorgement and prejudgment interest of $10,384,099 and an appropriate third-tier civil penalty."

The agency further alleged that GAW and ZenMiner made material misrepresentations to its customers, resulting in more than $19m in revenue tied to the sale of Hashlets. These sales, the SEC said, were buoyed by public statements made by Garza.

"In addition, GAW Miners obtained money, in the form of additional Hashlet investments, as a result of public statements made by its CEO that the company knew or should have known were false," the agency said.

Notably, the SEC did not name Garza as one of the parties in the filing, in light of a recent court approval for an extension of time to response to the suit.

Marjorie Peerce, the defense attorney representing Garza, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Happy Birthday everyone! :-D

I came to ask if we could review this
https://kerbalstuff.com/

it is/was a very popular website for downloading mods for the game kerbal space program which is extremely popular.
I was wondering if Dnotes could take it over as another investment? thanks team.

here is note from their website
"
Kerbal Stuff is shutting down

On June 1st 2014, I started working on Kerbal Stuff. 20 months have passed. 1,191 mods have been uploaded and 20,407 users registered with the site. Today, I am officially closing Kerbal Stuff. I'll explain how it came to this.

I built Kerbal Stuff after the announcement that KSP mods were to be officially moved to Curse. At the time, and still today, I did not feel that Curse would do right by the kommunity. I stepped up to build an alternative that would be much better than the mess Curse would provide. I built Kerbal Stuff to do right by the kommunity where Squad wouldn't.

I opened up a beta and got some modders on board, and Kerbal Stuff was very well received. It's fair to say that Kerbal Stuff decisively won the battle over Curse, providing hosting for nearly double the number of mods. It boils down to Kerbal Stuff simply being better at it. Kerbal Stuff had no ads for its entire lifetime, emailed users when their mods updated, and cared more about the modders and the players.

Undoubtedly Kerbal Stuff has had a direct impact on Squad's revenue - how many players must have hopped back into Kerbal Space Program after getting an email about their favorite mod receiving an update? In the past month, despite frequent downtime and slow page loads, Kerbal Stuff has served 1.2 million page views over 279 thousand sessions for over 84 thousand unique visitors.

As thanks, Squad continues to endorse Curse as the official source for KSP mods. They refuse to even mention Kerbal Stuff in public. During the early days, they even tried to have the name changed to omit the word "Kerbal", citing a trademark that didn't exist (they later registered the trademark).

Even setting Squad aside, running Kerbal Stuff is a largely thankless job. In fact, for the most part, I just hear complaints. Most people don't actually care about the effort put into it. Whenever I've taken the time to add features or make improvements or meet the requests of users, no one has shown any appreciation. I stopped volunteering my time and energy to extend this website, because my efforts were always met with silence or complaints.

I don't have expectations of anyone. I don't expect anyone to gush over how great any new features I implement are. I don't expect Squad to support Kerbal Stuff as the official source for mods. However, these factors have contributed to the apathy I have for the ongoing maintenance of Kerbal Stuff. I'm not willing to invest more of my time and energy into making Kerbal Stuff faster or more stable. I have been well aware of the slowness and instability, but I simply have no motivation to fix it.

I would like to thank those who have been supportive. Thanks to the volunteer admins for helping maintain the site. Thanks as well to the modders who chose to host their mods on Kerbal Stuff, and the users who chose to use it as their source for mods.

All of the mods hosted on Kerbal Stuff are available via this torrent. The source code for Kerbal Stuff will continue to be available on Github. I can be reached at sir@cmpwn.com.

- Drew "SirCmpwn" DeVault

Interesting stats from Google Analytics:

    4,948,349 total sessions
    993,550 total unique visitors
    19,083,579 total page views
03:11 - average length of visit

Kerbal Stuff costs about $100/mo to operate. After upgrades to support the high traffic, it would be about $180/mo.

Fun fact: Squad keeps the numbers secret, but as of April 2015 the estimated copies sold of KSP on Steam were about a million.

That sounds great, infovortice2013 - we are just  "a bunch of normal people doing amazing things" !!

Happy 2nd Birthday DNotes!!!

Quite an accomplishment in two years. Now that we have a solid foundation, where do you think DNotes will be in two years? That is the question smart investors should be asking.

Quote from the book, "As we continue to strive for a better life, at times in frustration and a feeling of helplessness, let us agree on one simple truth: where you are right now is of less consequence than where you are going from here. There is little that can be done to regain missed opportunities or retroactively correct the mistakes made in the past.

However, with an awareness of our shortcomings, willingness and commitment to change, we can learn from history and our past mistakes. We can also gain deep knowledge and wisdom from others, who have gone down the same path and beyond."

It's our birthday? Go, us!

Fine summer morning here, with mother kangaroo and baby grazing about thirty yards from the bench in the garden.

Mark

Spring is just about a month away for us, and it is my favorite season. Everything looks so perfect and fresh, but still too cold to do any hard work. We will have rabbits running around; no "mother kangaroo and baby grazing about" though.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DNotes!!!

Happy Birthday everyone! :-D

I came to ask if we could review this
https://kerbalstuff.com/

it is/was a very popular website for downloading mods for the game kerbal space program which is extremely popular.
I was wondering if Dnotes could take it over as another investment? thanks team.

Good to see you, PEACEOFWAR. We have a very full plate, focusing only on core products and services that provide the best synergies to what we already have in place.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DNotes!!!

This article is worth reading for those of you on the technical side of DNotes. It's one of the first I've scene where real scientific method has been used to analyze the scalability of blockchain dependant crypto-currencies.
