Has anyone figured out why one or more miners do not hash( shows 0 K hash/s and 0/0 blocks)on the dashboard. It seems like the usb hub is not working correctly. In my case it is only one miner but I had them all working and hashing , then after 24 hours of hashing, one miner always shows 0 k hash/s. I know it is not the miner, I checked each one individually.

Update: This morning I checked and just before they restarted themselves, the miner in question was mining at only 5 k hash/s and the rest average 325 k hash/s, after self reboot the same miner is at 0 k hash/s again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

D, if it's not a secret where have you ordered your set from?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=469057.0

10 miners with usb cable and controller is $2,019 with free shipping in the USA

You will also need (under $100):
PSU
10 power cables
controller power (cell phone charger)
USB Hub

So, a complete setup is about $2,100 including shipping in USA.

You may want to consider dumping the controller and:

Raspberry Pi, Model B
ATX PSU
power cables for ATX PSU to power the Raspberry Pi, Miners, and possibly the USB Hub.

Any recommendations on good USB hubs? How much power does the hub need to provide per port? Does the Gridseed take any power from the USB, or does it get all the power it needs from the 12v?

The STM32 MCU is powered off of 5V from the USB. I haven't measured, but I would estimate the MCU draws 500mA - 1A.

**SOLVED!! SEE BELOW!**

I'm running into a few issues getting more than one of these to run at once. I am going through a PC, as opposed to a control board just to note.

To give a better idea of my process I'll go through a short step by step of what I did:

-Connect unit to PC via USB
-Connect unit to power supply
(Green light blinking and fan running at this point)
-Use zadig to install WinUSB drivers.
-Edit cgminer .bat file with pool info
-Run cgminer
(Unit runs and hashes. Both green and red light flashing)

When I only run one unit connected directly to the PC, everything is "A" o.k.

-If I connect a second unit to the PC, and attempt to run cgminer I run into an issue like this:
http://imgur.com/CkrYbKK
"GSD0: TIMEOUT GetResults took 5078ms but was 999ms"

-If I connect a third unit to the PC, cgminer just won't run and I receive an error message reporting that cgminer has 'quit unexpectedly' .

-If I try to connect miners via USB hub, the computer will acknowledge only one being connected via audio sound (windows 8 makes a responsive bleeping noise when it recognizes a new USB device connected). Although windows only responds to one unit being connected via hub, they all show up inside device manager and blink green. Once I run cgminer with miners connected to the hub, I get an error message saying that I need to install WinUSB drivers although windows tells me that the driver is already installed.

-If I try to uninstall WinUSB drivers and revert to cpuminer, upon running minerd the unit only continuously puts out get work notifications (no 'yay!!!'s signaling I've accepted a share).

tl;dr - no matter what I try I am only able to get one unit running through direct connection to the PC. I've tried most troubleshooting suggestions..any help would be greatly appreciated!

**SOLUTION**: I was plugging in the usb hub of miners before starting cgminer. The correct method is to let cgminer start and connect to the pool, and then connect the hub of miners. Silly mistake imo, but easy to run into.

Where is the modified source code of the GPL programs included in the controller?

At least cpuminer and cgminer have been modified (they take a new parameter, "--dif"), and probably the linux kernel too (as it shows "Linux Lightningasic" when you run uname -a). According to the GPL, license of this software, you HAVE TO release your modified code - so where is it?

Make sure you are on a 2.0 usb on the computer. I tried a 3.0 port and had the same problems you do. Thanks

I tested the USB hub with 10 miners and have the following results:

The hub itself required .017 amps (at 120 volts a/c), or 2 watts.
When 10 miners are plugged in and mining, the draw was .058 amps, or 7 watts.

So, the 10 miners draw 5 watts off the hub while mining, or .5 watts per usb port, or 100 milliamps per port.

So, if you get a 20 port usb hub, you would need to provide 2 amps at 5 volts, plus whatever power the hub requires.

Note: power is probably less due to efficiency loss of the power brick. So, 1 amp at 5 volts per 10 miners should be safe.

Has anyone encountered a solid red LED? I've been mining steadily for a week, but now my mining software won'y recognize the device (a singly Gridseed Infinity Mini), and the red LED comes on without flashing for about 30 seconds, maybe a minute. Then it turns off, and this cycle repeats.

The green LED flashes steadily.

I have a 12/v 5A power supply and the device is connected to a full-powered USB 3 HUB.

In CGminer, I get "No Devices Detected!" and in CPUminer I get "failed open device /dev/ttyACM0"

Thanks in advance.

Any recommendations on good USB hubs? How much power does the hub need to provide per port? Does the Gridseed take any power from the USB, or does it get all the power it needs from the 12v?

500ma/port usb hub is better. usb miner ST mcu will use power from usb hub.
12V supplyes power to GC3355.

I have 13 of them, one with broken fan, arrived like that. I disabled fan.
4.7Mh stable, ATX power supply, rpi, 2 hubs, all powered from ATX PSU, draw is 131W average.
One of the chips appears to be dead, didn't produce a single share while other chips are at 50+ each with some hw errors.

haven't read this entire thread yet, but real quick has anyone had issues with the gold color gridseeds with the white button randomly stop hashing?

itll go about 24 hours or so (depending on what diff its mining at) and just quit hashing

im running latest lightningasic firmware with the modified cgminer (not cpuminer) but ive had the issue with the cpuminer as well

Did you open the top of the unit 4 screws top should come off. Make sure no wires are under the heatsink.

The gridseeds seem to like a 2.0 usb for some reason try connecting directly to the computer on a usb 2.0 port. see what happens. If your using CGminer start cgminer first then connect gridseed to the usb.also see my last post above.

Thanks, vabchgent. I very much appreciate the response.

In case it helps others researching the same problem, I had no wires trapped under the heatsink, and switching to USB 2 didn't change anything.

Hello,

Will these Gridseed unit be able to mine scrypt-n and scrypt-jane? Maybe thru a new firmware?

regards,

P.

No. Do you know what ASIC stands for? Or what words like 'scrypt' and 'scrypt-n' mean?

With a question like that, it doesn't surprise me that you're unable to Google, but in future you will find it much faster to Google questions like this rather than write posts in forums. Adaptive n-factor means that the A in ASIC changes over time. That means that the S in ASIC causes a problem when the A changes. So ASIC's are more-tricky to make for these types of coin, but anyway, these gridseed units won't work.

*Edit: This was a bit unfair (as per subsequent advice). It's not meant to sound as sharp as it probably does.
