How do the fixed weightings compare to the current difficulties?

I've not had a detailed look at the code, but it seems the multipliers are:

(snip)

The current difficulties as an inverse proportion of SHA are roughly:

(snip)

Doesn't that mean that an SHA block can still eat several non-SHA blocks?

Yes, those are the current multipliers. They attempt to bring the difficulties closer to the same order of magnitude as SHA. So SHA still has an advantage, but the advantage is several orders of magnitude less than previously.

One of the proposed solutions was to dynamically alter the factors. This is something that will be considered for the future.

Oh. Then I don't see a huge improvement, in practical terms, to how it was before the patch? Using current figures, an SHA block could still eat upto 18 Scrypt blocks, and it's very unlikely that the network would go 18 blocks in a row without an SHA block anyway. The 4+ block reorganisation that I saw previously (which wasn't even a malicious event) would still occur after the patch is applied.

For calculating total chain work, is considering the SHA difficulty at the time of the block (even for non-SHA protocols) a sensible option? I'm sure that brings with it a whole bunch of new issues though.

Guys, this coin is a cool idea, but it's just a technical exercise between geeks at the moment - it stands no chance of success if it's not promoted to real people and fresh hands are enticed in.

In this way it reminds me of aircoin, lots of brains but little interest in marketing and , like aircoin, time will run out.

Is anyone working on a media push?

100% true.

I've just seen myriad's responses to your tweet, I'm a bit disappointed.

They seem to think that any publicity is hype which is ridiculous and will lead to the slow death of this coin when another takes the same ideas of MYR, but actually promotes it and lets the world know it exists. Remember also that this is a declining market at the moment, so time is literally running out.

They are actively trying to hide the existence of Myriad and it is only a matter of time before someone else takes the initiative to build a similar, but successful coin.

It's a tricky one because, at the moment, this coin is fairly and squarely aimed at geeks and miners, there's not a lot to entice non-crypto types into the fold.

We should look at other coins and see how they have done it, BC and DRK are probably good examples to look at. We should also look at AIR to see how not to do it.

Edit:

Ok, Myriad's big thing is security, how do we bring that to the fore? Could we maybe get a uni's math or computer department involved? Some kind of hacking competition? If we think MYR is secure, we should put it to the test - shows confidence and transparency. I'm just throwing this out, it's prolly a crap idea.

To be honest, I would usually say yeah, yeah, yeah, I've heard that before (see Aircoin), but coming from you I am happy to give you the benefit of doubt.  Grin

All proceeds from the dice games will currently go towards Myriadcoin development. Play for a good cause!

Addresses, rules, results and proof can be viewed here:

http://cryptap.us/myr/dice/

Since this is currently for charity, the 500 MYR bounty for flaws is rescinded. If you do find a flaw I will gladly refund any lost coins, PM me.

Feedback is welcome.

There is a new game on the dice page, a coinbomb game (also known as "hot potato"). Please let me know if there are any issues.

And remember, all proceeds currently go to the Myriadcoin dev bounty fund.

Edit:
Large increase in maximum bet limits.

They are actively trying to hide the existence of Myriad and it is only a matter of time before someone else takes the initiative to build a similar, but successful coin.

Some extra publicity would certainly go down well. Myriad has two key selling points:

 - Extra friendly to miners: mine what you want.
 - Extra secure against attacks

The first is clear. But the second needs some technical analysis as backup; gut feeling or a few sentences as argument isn't enough. That's why the security analysis paper looking at MYR's susceptibility to attacks should be considered a priority. Get it produced and reviewed, and then push the promotions if it's favourable.

For instance, the tweet mentioned is a reply to an earlier one:

"To perform a double spend attack on #Myriad, the attacker would now need to gain 81% of the network hashrate. Yes, 81%. #MYR #Myriadcoin"

That's a bold statement. But it's (possibly) correct only if you assume that an attacker would stick to one algo. If he has 51% of the network hashrate (i.e. 51% of each algo's hashrate), he can double spend.

I like the idea of a hacking competition, or a hacking bounty. It's a bit of a publicity stunt with a purpose behind it.

And I feel you on AirCoin. I'm still holding a big bag of it  Angry

Good idea and algorithm soon raise the price.

Dozens of new coins with the same age already umerli. I constantly extractive coins and keep for the future.

Security problems exist in all crypto money. Decentralization maintain network is one of the priorities in this regard.

I'm really digging the discussion here guys (about security paper and PR/media).
Let's keep these a priority.

We also have another bounty to announce:

GUI Miner - Easy Algo Switcher MKRadnUiH2yAxJ8nwKGk95SjtxpA4YZn4X
Code a GUI-Miner that allows the user to easily switch between Scrypt, Skein, Groestl, or Qubit "with the click of a button". Even better, include an "auto-switching" mode that passively switches algorithms based on which is most profitable according to http://myriad.theblockexplorer.com/

Myriadcoin - the first multi-PoW blockchain! (Mine with SHA256 [ASICs], Scrypt [GPU/ASICs], Skein [GPUs], Groestl [GPUs], OR Qubit [CPUs/GPUs]).

IMO, fork each algo to 10 minute blocks (2 minutes vs 30 seconds average), so the block chain size won't be astronomical and network propagation will actually be able to handle high volume properly.
