It's Official. We are sponsoring WonderWomenHacks with EDU!

As many of you know, in order to kickstart EDU adoption, we recently sponsored the awesome student hackers at the University of Virginia's first ever hackathon. At the same time, we sponsored teams at the enormous hackathon at Rutgers University!

Today, WonderWomenHacks has kindly accepted our sponsorship offer. We are going to Long Beach, California on May 19th!

Our Goal
10 People x 10-million = 100 million EDU Can we reach this modest target? Of course you can give less or more. This will go a long way to showing others about our community's generosity --as a descendant of Dogecoin we really can't have it any other way.

Even at this early stage where EDU is largely unknown and undervalued, I know we can still accomplish incredible things for the students at this event! Let's reach our goal by next Monday (5/5) and see how much we can go past 100 million EDU!

How to contribute
I am posting WonderWomenHack's public receive address here: 6JgRzMoBwpm4sGEA6jjfFQke1rDpsBGsj5

Here it is in the block explorer, where you can see an initial contribution of 10-million EDU:
http://educhain.mycryptoco.in/a/6JgRzMoBwp

Background
Wonder Women Hacks is a two day hackathon for visionary women, teens and men who are passionate about the ever changing needs of women across the planet. It will be held with the California Women's Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center (Long Beach, California) on May 19th and 20th.

(Main link: http://www.wonderwomenhacks.com/)

The EDU will be used as giveaways, as hacker team resources, or as prize money to winning teams. Either way, they are most likely going to students and people who can clearly see value in them. This is part of our winning adoption strategy and I hope you can join us!

Hi 500Crypto. Good news. We are in the conversation and they are aware of EDU.

Edumoto has reached out to Dan at MIT and others across the country. College bitcoin clubs are sprouting up all at once across the US, thanks to sharp early adopters and the College Crypto Currency Network whom we also reached out to. EduCoin is in the thick of things in the college space, as you can see in both devs twitter feeds (@educoin_crypto // @satoshiedumoto). But it doesn't just stop at college, EDU is aiming to shape the entire education space.

EDU is moving forward in some areas where the college Bitcoin clubs are not, and they are in some areas where we're not. We'll continue to look for areas where we can support each other. For instance we already know that school presidents and provosts are wary of Bitcoin's Silk Road image (as unfair as that is). Not everyone out there is as enlightened as an MIT department chair or administrator! We agree that Bitcoin will be adopted on campuses across the country, but we see it equally beneficial if both are adopted simultaneously.

TLDR. If Gmail and campus webmail (.edu) can co-exist, then BTC and EDU can co-exist.

Best of luck EDU, congrats on progress, Miner since day one, small but I get some. ISM degree, no jobs however. Let me know if work is needed on the back-end. This may be out of your realm, a flyer in a Sunday paper. The NY times, USA Today. I would suggest any one involved to keep it local, due to cost. A template to keep it uniform.

Thanks for the message and really glad to have you here! Are you a graduate of CMU? An ISM degree and your skills are valuable to the marketplace and to the EDU community!  We have a dev chat at https://gitter.im/edumoto/educoin and a Slack room.  We'd love to see you join us there sometime in the future.

Also, why don't we run an experiment with EDU for you?  An idea you may want to consider is education crowdfunding for: you, your school debt, or your future education (if unemployed maybe more training would help you pivot your career). Think about going public, PM Satoshi Edumoto for details at satoshiedumoto@gmail.com with your contact info.

Thank you for the reply, I am farther north. I would also like to add that I have a Pingry connection, not myself - someone close. Thank you EDU. I do not think I am should be the one to focus on, as I am modest. I know that I am more well off than others in the world. I am just upset at our education system and believe there should be change, I thank you for the innovation and the real world concept of a crypto. I am willing to support the coin, thus out. I will at my best spread the word.

Any news?

Developer Update

1. Getting ready for a release today (5/3) of version 1.0.1. This is a security update addressing the OpenSSL (Heartbleed) vulnerability widely reported a few weeks earlier.

2. Later next week there will be a mandatory upgrade with release version 1.1.0. We have examined the KGW issue, tested the fix, and now, we have decided to go forward with the better option of DigiShield.

3. Further updates on EDU adoption coming soon!  But don't forget to contribute! Let's meet our promised target goal for WonderWomenHacks (39-million EDU left to reach it!)

Developer Update Re: Wallet Updated to v1.0.1

This new wallet version addresses the OpenSSL vulnerability. Not mandatory but highly recommended.

•   Wallet v1.0.1 (Windows | OSX | Linux )

1. When updating to a new wallet, please make sure you have backed up your wallet.dat first.
2. When starting the wallet for the first time, you will need to create the educoin.conf file (guidelines here http://educoin.cc/getting-started-educoin/)
3. For 64-bit linux, please run this command in the linux terminal: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs
4. Please help each other by reporting bugs, bugfixes in this community. Be as detailed as possible.

EduCoin crowdfunds students at eight events across the US!

In just three weeks, our community has crowdfunded and given 177 million EDU to some of the brightest middle, high school, and college students we could find! EDU has traveled from coast to coast in the US, from New York to Texas to California. This has had two major consequences. Student hackers are trying out new ideas to disrupt education with EDU. Second, these future Googlers and startup CEOs are holding onto their EDU with the aim of spending them one day soon --at school!

Here is a summary of the student events where EDU has made an impact. The students at these events not only want EDU, they plan to do something with it!

1. HackUVA at the University of Virginia [1 million given]

2. HackRU at Rutgers University [1 million given]

3. HackNYU at New York University  [35 million given]

4. HackUCI at the University of California Irvine [10 million+][donate now]

5. HackExeter at Phillips Exeter Academy [10 million+][donate now]

6. WonderWomenHacks in Long Beach, California [69 million reaching for 100 million][donate now]

7. HSCTF High School Capture The Flag [10 million+][donate now]

8. SoHacks School's Out Hacks [10 million+][donate now]

Great to see the coin is still moving forward.

However, we need to find a way to give the coin more value.. Looks like the coin is really dumped and therefore it's hard to let it gain value again.  Does someone has an idea?
The future of this coin will unfortunately not be very bright if we stay at this value, I think Sad.

{Curently quite inactive as I'm really busy in my private life. I will get back soon!}
