Crimea is now self-sufficient with water. 8 aqueducts have been laid from deep-water wells to supply the canal with water. Also, a new desalination plant is to be launched this summer.

Here is the report from 28th of March about the planned works:
http://ria.ru/defense_safety/20150328/1055132169.html
Saw the news on TV today that the works are now complete.

Sneaky buggers...

Quote
MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. The work of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Ukraine cannot spread to the territory of Crimea, Russia’s OSCE envoy Andrey Kelin said on Friday.

"When the mandate of the mission was adopted and then extended, we made a very clear statement that Crimea does not fall under the mission’s mandate. It is the territory of Russia," Kelin said during a Moscow-Vienna video link-up.

Ukraine plans to build the Black and Azov Ship Canal, which would turn the Crimea peninsula into an island...

This is a massive project that requires tens of billions of USD. Ukraine is already in deep debt, and they won't be able to afford any of this. And by the way, I can't see any major benefits from this planned canal as well....

Well, it´s an old idea of the Russians in the 19th century and the Soviets in the 20th to simplify the transport between the ports of Odessa and Mariupol.

Hmmm.. Mariupol is currently the most important steel producer in Ukraine. So it makes sense to create the canal. But as I said, it is an extremely expensive project requiring a lot of funds. The Kiev junta right now can't even feed its own people. Do you think they will seriously consider it?

Their western owners might. But it´s a very uncertain asset and a shaky country that will come apart no doubt in the not so distant future. I think it´ll revert back to its old Russian order, at least the southern part, and then this canal will come into being. It´ll be nothing for Russian-Chinese capital, they´re already going into a gigantic “21st-century Silk Road” rail link project to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

I think that most of the steel mills in Ukraine are owned by the local oligarchs. The Illich Steel and Iron Works and the Azovstal Steel Plant are owned by Rinat Akhmetov. However, Kryvorizhstal (a steel mill based in Kryvyi Rih) is owned by ArcelorMittal.

Well, what´s left of George Soros has been whining lately about how his western political whores aren´t diligent enough in protecting his interests in the Ukraine. So, his concern probably has some stake in those mills. And eyes the Donbass of course.

Information about the actual ownership of these mills is difficult to obtain, but it is known that Rinat Akhmetov is having the majority stake in both the major mills. Western oligarchs might have bought significant stakes, when Tymoshenko was in power.

Funny you should mention it...
Soros praised today Merkel for being the key figure in intiating/facilitating imposition of sanctions against Russia. But at the same time he said that Merkel leads Europe in the wrong direction financially.

Doublespeak? And a dubious praise as "sanctions against Russia" primarily hit Europe.

Germany is occupied territory and as such has rather limited independent foreign policy. The leaders of this vassal state have to be viewed in this light. Still, you can detect a certain frustration in them which of course comes from the business sector that is seething over lost Russian business. It´s pretty humiliating having to harm yourself to serve the interests of your masters across the sea.

The German armed forces are a joke. They are 100% dependent on the American soldiers, who are stationed all over the former FRG. Germany doesn't even have a gold reserve. The US is controlling that as well.

Their army may be small, but is well supplied and their equipment is advanced and reliable. Just because Russia has more soldiers doesn't change the fact that most of them have just basic training and will be armed in AKs. They can forget about getting night vision goggles, thermal sights, armor plates and so on. Their forces have been reduced, just like many other, since there's no need to protect borders inside the EU. This doesn't mean they are weak Wink

Germany’s army is so under-equipped that it used broomsticks instead of machine guns

Quote
The German army has faced a shortage of equipment for years, but the situation has recently become so precarious that some soldiers took matters into their own hands. On Tuesday, German broadcaster ARD revealed that German soldiers tried to hide the lack of arms by replacing heavy machine guns with broomsticks during a NATO exercise last year. After painting the wooden sticks black, the German soldiers swiftly attached them to the top of armored vehicles, according to a confidential army report which was leaked to ARD.

Well, it´s a matter of very solid historical record that the U.S. has rendered every military force it has "trained" totally useless, well apart from handing U.S, supplied arms over to the enemy. And being top dogs in NATO they´ve turned that to manure as well. So, any ideas of conventional warfare against the Russians are just ridiculous pipe dreams.

I'd take a single Leopard 2 over two of your crappy T80s any time. If you're comparing the Western arsenal to what Russia is using then you're the one in need of saving. You guys are running out of space to hold your cold war scrap.

I'd take a single Leopard 2 over two of your crappy T80s any time.

No one is preventing you from doing that. Best of luck. And T-80 is outdated. Try Armata or T-95.

If you're comparing the Western arsenal to what Russia is using then you're the one in need of saving. You guys are running out of space to hold your cold war scrap.

What do you mean by Western arsenal? If you are referring to the US weapons, then they are OK. Might be able to counter the Russians in most of the sectors. But German weapons? Don't make me laugh.

Western Nazi-supporting whores will not attend the coming Russian military parade commemorating World War II victory over their ilk.

Czech President Clashes With U.S. Ambassador Over Russia

PRAGUE—A fresh diplomatic row erupted Sunday between the pro-Russian president of the Czech Republic and the U.S., reflecting a widening gap between the head of the small European Union state and his own country’s politicians, allies and public.

Milos Zeman Sunday said the U.S. ambassador is now unwelcome at his office because of the diplomat’s recent doubts about whether the president’s participation in a coming Russian military parade commemorating World War II is wise....

^^^^ See the language used in the article. The Czech president is pro-Russian, just because he agreed to attend the celebrations. Don't forget that this same pro-Russian president voted for sanctions and embargoes against Russia a few months ago. Just proves once again that the Wall Street Journal is one of the most rotten media pieces in the world.

Yeah, it´s owned by the same interests that own politicians and the war industry. So it´s the spin you´d expect.

It has been easy street for a long time now, the US/NATO have only attacked those who couldn´t really defend themselves and bite back. And long drawn-out disasters that have left everything a total mess. Total and endless waste. It´s a war businessman´s dream.

But now those useless military forces are up against a foe that can bite back and then some. If they´re going to wage conventional war against Russia it´s difficult to see how that would be set up successfully. Where would the staging area be ? Poland ? Ukraine ? If they started massing troops and materiel there the Russians would simply start rolling from THEIR own in place staging areas. I guess their first major obstacle would be the Atlantic Ocean.
