Big banks support XRP in both terms of value and price. XRP doesn't deserve this places in my opinion. While other cryptocurrencies are red it is meaningless to talk about recovery.

Ethereum deserves its position at the moment, it is considerably way more better to compare to XRP, XRP to say, has only many supporters, but the features of Ethereums says it all, it can support smartcontract project that helps projects.

However, what make ETH a successful one is because it was created early and has gain a lot of supporters, also the team are working

I'm glad that they are back to the second spot, but the battle is not yet over the second post is still up for grabs, there are still some coins that are up to the challenged, Eos, Cardano and of course Ripple are still a big threat, to ethereum position in the second spot.

This had to happen as those who believed in ETH had being buying it from long ago when it was at near 100 $ mark which was also the correct time as such to buy this coin as it was dumped badly during the btc falling in 2018.

Personally,  I see Ethereum the most valuable coin after Bitcoin as it has a real utility for people. Most of new Ico-based projects are still based on eth.

Also, eth is constantly being improved by dev and this proves it is a very mature coin that will have a bright future when bulls will come.
