Hey rickgejr, that sounds productive! I know perceptions of this coin vary wildly...that being said these are my honest opinions.
A little bit of background...There are a lot of haters (seemingly spawned from Monero dev) so usually I just keep calm and do what I believe. Almost all of my major gains were investments that I understood personally but that many others scoffed at, so I've learned to listen to myself. I've lost money when I listen to others. I often get called shill and all kinds of paranoid things on many sites that I post on because I am always lurking and don't necessarily post often (not necessarily even crypto related). I feel very outspoken not only here, but in politics and society in general. I don't like to get involved with online epeen arguments and I assume many other Bytecoiners have similar mentalities. It has been made apparent through email contact with dev team and their update patterns that they are not here to pump a coin or their egos. It's an anonymous project after all. I also don't want to dilly dally, I just want to get shit done, so that lines up well with my world view. I know I am not the only one who feels this way.
I think that those who have issues with Bytecoin but yet flock to Bitcoin are some what hypocritical. Bitcoin has billions of dollars worth in coins held by its anonymous founder Satoshi Nakamoto, yet they trust him not to dump. It's also apparent that the market does not care about "premining" to a certain extent, look at DASH's success and all the numerous projects/tokens that retain a percentage of coins (and let's be clear the premine accusations vs Bytecoin are all unverified claims). It would not be in a developer's best interest to crash a coin that they put hours and years of work into by dumping either. Cryptonote.org researchers/original creators also vouch for the validity of the conception of Bytecoin in July 2012 which I think has some meaning in itself. There is also an interesting thread on the Bytecoin subreddit right now that talks a little bit about the origins of Cryptonote.
Bytecoin has been so incredibly cheap for the past few years that distribution has been broadened again and again. BCN being available this long at that low of a price and difficulty would have certainly allowed everyone and their mother to mine or buy some. Monero was a copy of the original Bytecoin, mainly with just a different distribution dependent on its announcement on this forum (years?) after Bytecoin's conception. Obviously the coins have taken very different paths since then...
The devs are always around and I have personally sent numerous emails back and forth over the years. Just because they aren't here chatting away doesn't mean "coins ded". Most people choose to follow what others say instead of doing their own research. Indeed Bytecoin are consistently updating their tech and wallet, even without a huge vocal fan base. I think that says something.
Bytecoin's wallet GUI is very pretty and professional, always has been. I really enjoy that about the client. They've always had talented graphic designers for logos and the website too. Some newer folks had syncing issues with the wallet but there was a recent update and I think there was just some confusion because my wallet always works fine. Never any concerns of losing coins or anything weird like that, always reliable and responsive.
I agree that anonymous devs are definitely more secure for an anonymous coin. I honestly didn't expect Fluffy to make such an obviously dumb move, but it is the exact reason why I don't trust the XMR "experiment" (his words). An anonymous crypto should not have a real life clown as it's mascot. I would prefer no mascot at all. It's also not smart for a dev to prop his real life persona in front of an anonymous coin for his own bodily safety (especially after today). In Fluffy's case I don't think he understands the seriousness of the matter at hand. I actually own some XMR as back up but I've never believed in it. I don't want to bash them so I will not list all of my reasons and stop with the XMR talk.
PS I don't know what is up with Poloniex honestly. I thought they were just overloaded or that maybe they were updating, but I can't get a solid response out of them.

@babybonobo,
Thanks.
This has been my impression for awhile about Bytecoin.
Professionals.
I have held XMR's and AEON's in the past...and numerous other coins.
But Bytecoin has always intrigued the hell out of me.
This back and forth between Monero and Bytecoin over the years has always seemed so one-sided. Monero and fans always getting their licks in. Bytecoin seeming to hold back; playing the high road?
I discount DASH. Don't trust it's founder.
Fluffy -- and I'm sure he's a smart guy -- is not a great PR guy for sure.
But many coins are getting hit right now...
I guess we'll see what shakes out.

In any event, if Bytecoin drops to its previous lows it might just be a great buying opportunity. Provided it once again surges forward, that there is no monkey business, and Poloniex (and other exchanges) allow deposits and withdrawals once again.
The fact that Poly is still allowing trading in Bytecoin is curious. Why else would they allow trade? Profit, all the way to the "delist" heap? Unless Poly is waiting for trade to die naturally, then delist it.
Either way, Poly's reputation will suffer in the short term if they continue to stonewall the cryptocurrency community as to why they have "temporarily disabled" it.
All of this in-fighting between coins -- between Monero and Bytecoin especially -- is secondary. Us users would really like the truth...for once. Not a profanity laced rant about how bad some coins are, but a methodical, verifiable, reasonable explanation, neutral, cited, reviewed and so on. Not a speculative piece.
This forum is not ideal for such reviews. Is there such a review available? A recent Bytecoin code review?

I don't think that there is a maximum limit to the amount as long as you have it.

Is it still interesting to mine Bytecoin for Minergate? I thought this coin was dead, but incredibly it turned out differently!

It depends on how much you could mine, but I would suggest to spare some to buy as the price still cheap and sell later when you are satisfied.

Ever since Bytecoin has awakened on Poloniex the price range to liquidity ratio has been interesting.
Take a look at Monero for example. A lot of on-the-books orders. Usually over a 1000 BTC at a given moment.
Bytecoin of late? Maybe 300 BTC.
But the prices are more spread out with Monero.
Bytecoin is much tighter. Large orders for fewer price ranges.
I think this has been discussed before as a way to help stabilize the values.
Maybe it keeps the whales playing with the coins that put the decimal point farther left.
Except lately I see huge orders 17+ BTC at a time, for BCN.
That's over $40,000 in one whack? And the BCN values barely noticed.
Compared to the stock market, this is peanuts, but in this venue?
Pretty significant.

Bytecoin is surging again. Wonder if it will hold...on Poloniex. Lately, https://coinmarketcap.com/ has been slow on the uptake or Poly is slow.

Try lowering your anonymity level with the slider under the fee area.
