Been out of the loop for the past couple of weeks due to the Covid19 issues and didn't have as much time to research regarding ProgPOW and E3 end of life date. So far from what I understand the ProgPOW was a go, then people went all over Reddit and Twitter complaining to the ETH devs and they decided to not do ProgPOW, then they had some conference call which was 50/50 and haven't heard anything since. So is ProgPOW a go or not? Anyone got any concrete details?

Also it seems like next week sometime the Antminer E3 will cease to be able to mine ETH anymore. Basically it will stop at the same DAG as it did with ETC. Wondering what will happen to the hashrate. Honestly with all that is going around I still think the hashrate is still pretty high and hardly changed from the peak in Feb 2020, basically proof that most people are mining ETH with free or very cheap electricity rates.
there was some bitching about progpow on twitter but progpow is still a go,imho eth is a mess and we will probably have more delays....

I think I paid $399 NEW for my Sapphire reference model Vega 56 a couple years back.
$180 seems reasonable.

I have 2 sapphire pulse two fan.

I have 2 msi air boost blower style.

free shipping to usa.

180 for any 1
350 for any 2
510 for any 3
650 for all   4

I would consider any reasonable offer for them.

which means a bit lower then above works.

Sold the 2 pluse/

Still have 2 msi blower style

Seems a few of these Antminer E3 are showing up on eBay already. There are even many people bidding on them.

My GTX 1070 ti cards are STILL happy pushing 31 Mh at 106 watts.
I am now wishing I'd bought MORE of those....

SMOS-Linux -- 0/1400/112 can get 32.x Mhs

I suspect I could match that if I pushed my RAM and CPU harder, they're only at 1000 / 0 right now but I don't remember why I settled for those figures.
Perhaps not as stable at higher settings on one or more card at higher temps, or ZEC (which is what I did the heavy testing on back when) wasn't.

Ok finally makes sense. I kept getting the email alerts every few minutes on my phone about posts being deleted, it kept chiming and chiming and chiming. At first I assumed it was some April fools joke. And then I realised it was from posts back in 2016, why would anyone want to delete them.

Either way, I actually remember the above photo with your Radeon 7950 with a case fans zip tied. I think I was the one who told you to switch some resources and get back into GPU mining because ETH was becoming more profitable than BTC ASICs at the time. Its pretty crazy that it was 4 years ago. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I had a rig like that also. Basically a motherboard laying on top of its motherboard box with 1 GPU inside. Wasn't efficient at all however it didn't matter because only 20% or so was going to pay for power costs, was very profitable back then.

It will  will be the most costly cpu I ever used.

But I did have a few 6 card 1080ti rigs that cost more to build
and a 16 card rig  that was more costly.

2000 cpu
  150 ssd
  450 mobo

2600    had some discounts so  2400

and of course all the other parts on hand.

Selling 2 xmr rigs to help fund it.

Wow!

This CPU will be a powerful XMR miner.

Would this bigger 128GB RAM impact RandomX performance?

Post your buildup - this would be a monster XMR miner

Should do 25kh  vs the 12kh my 3900's do.

goal will be

1 threadripper 3970x
1 ryzen 9 3950x
4 ryzen 9 3900x

six rigs with not much gpu action.

I think

3  gtx    1660's
1  amd  5700
1  gtx    1080ti

1  gtx    710 does not mine just to access screens on the ryzen 3950 build

I may sell  the 1080ti hybrid soon
and the 3 gtx 1660's

use the amd 5700 with the thread ripper.

and I have a few gtx 710's which won't mine just give some graphics.

32 cores on the TR right? , at that price you could have bought 4 3900x tho, they are going for $400 now

if the 64 core one was a linear upgrad i might bite but i heard its not i.e you get less piwer per core than a 3900x

Is worth setting up dual-CPU 3900x on a dual CPU slot mobo?

Will that much RAM increase mining performance?

That actually sounds like a not-so-bad alternative to a threadripper gaming system in my world.

My main pc is on 24/7 (that i3-7100 and z270 still kicking and rock solid with its 32Gb of ram upgrade i got it)
I would take the time to set up an idle process to mine when i'm not using it.

been a while since i've coded a new batch XD

actually those cpus are so powerful you can set maybe 20 cores to mine and still perform most daily tasks with not much of a noticeable difference

Will that much RAM increase mining performance?

Short answer: No

Long answer:  Excess RAM does not improve performance. RAM requirements are algo dependant, either you have enough or you don't.
Insufficient RAM will either limit the number of threads that can run or prevent the miner from running at all.

Cache size is more important for many CPU algos, many were engineered based on cache usage, typically 2 MB/thread. Cache overflow
will reduce performance but the miner will still run.

About your first question, if possible there would be dual socket Ryzen mobos available. There aren't.

Edit:

On a theoretical level I think we are seeing the beginning of the end of multi socket systems. Who needs multiple sockets when
you can put 64 cores in one socket? Core count is increasing so fast it's outpacing the rest of the system making multiple socket
systems unnecessary and likely ineffective.

Phil I think this is freaking awesome, but from a financial point of view how can you justify this?

I know you have a unique electric situation, so lets say without even factoring electric -- you'll clear $1.33 a day ~.7 XMR a month? You could buy over 37 XMR instead O_o

Don't get me wrong, I love mining and look forward to seeing your results with this, but just curious to hear your thoughts here.

Don't get me wrong, I love mining and look forward to seeing your results with this, but just curious to hear your thoughts here.

XMR developers have fought the good fight against asic's

I toss support to them. Also I am very careful about experimental and test builds that run at a loss.

Basically anything in my garage loses money but  it show ways to build and keeps me in the loop.

So

My threadripper 1920x and mobo and cooler  gone
My ryzen 7 3700x full plug n play gone
My ryzen 7 3800x full plug n play gone
4 amd vega 56 units gone

added 1  thread ripper  3970x plug n play

my sales of gear cost me zero to do the build

and I will drop power down to 300 watts vs 1500    as the sold gear was using a ton of power.

At this is possible due to the 2ph btc  12 gh ltc farm   as that is fully paid for and I earn from that farm.

My home will run

4 ryzen 9 3900            400 watts
1 ryzen 9 3950            120 watts
1 threadripper 3970x   300 watts

Total 820 watts for summer mining  I very likely will not make money with this cpu farm , but  much of it has been created for no net cost  due to selling other gear.

I still stand by my signature that alts are needed for cryptocoin to be mass adopted.
And  to not have some alt coin cpu and gpu gear would be wrong. Even if it does not profit.

And all my gear will be new with decent warranty  in the garage.

Do I advise anyone to buy  5 am threadripper rigs at 2-3k each out of pocket no.

Do I advise a guy with a lot of older gear to sell or swap to a ryzen xmr rig  sure at least one rig.

I still have  6 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 18 gpus mining  in rigs I split coins with.

So

I have the big Clifton farm I get a piece of pretty much certain medium profit.  say  .15 btc a month  say 4 ltc a month  profit.   this is over   700 my share.
I have 18 gpus I get a piece of pretty much a certain small profit.   say .02 btc a month profit.                                                 this is over   125 my share.

I will have 6 xmr rigs all mine in my home that  kind of lose money  or make very little.
This will cost 1440 kwatts of 17 cent power monthly  may 1 to oct 31   that is 244 a month to earn about  150 in coin  a 94 dollar loss.
I can do the following  for years :

Spend 244  a month in power and bank 150 in coin. .................................. 6 x 94 =                        564 loss
In the winter the power cost drops to  144 a month and I bank  150 in coin     6 x 6 =                           36 gain

that  means a loss of 528  a year

the gear was obtained by trading in paid for gear.  so no true gear cost.

so if I lose 100 a year   and have 6 killer rigs

and I earn on the other gear. 825  a month that is 9900 - 100 = 9800

Yeah I don't have to do it but I have 6 killer rigs all fairly new.

Yes I could have  cashed in the old gear and not purchased the 6 xmr rigs

I would have maybe 6 or 7 k. which  would not have a deduction against that  gross income.

I have a wash since I purchased the new gear and mine with it.  I am 63  once I am 66 if I choose I can alter my tax planning. Reduce the mining take more  income by not rolling it into the mining.
