All Gigabyte models?Aorus are quite good, have 54 of them never had an issue, but the Gaming OC models had to replace all the fans at least once for all 6 of them over 2,5 years of mining.

Probably gonna be tough to get but the early rumors are the new AMD 6800 non xt does 1.5 times a 3090 at a cost of $579.  I assume it's on eth.

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-6800-allegedly-1-5x-faster-than-geforce-rtx-3090-in-cryptocurrency-mining

Gonna have gamers and miners going for this if it holds true.

Yes, I know, was just wondering what kind of issues they have, because if I would see Aorus on stock for sure I will buy some....

just the 3080 has had a lot of complaints so far as they have the inferior cap pattern.

a mixed pattern of round and rectangle caps seems to be good.

gigabyte is all of one cap (can't remember if all round or all rectangle)

this causes the hash rate to fade  from 95-100 to 75-80 over an hour or two of mining

caps? as in capacitors?

if so, seems an odd thing for caps to affect hash rate.

Not really those caps are directly on the back side of the gpu chip.  The use of loer cost caps also means they geneally have less tolerance on operational temperature.  This the ones using the cheaper mlcc caps have over heating issues that cause lost of hash.  Probably not an issue in gaming but sure creates issues for mining...which may be part of their plan.

Yeah exactly this.

Caps filter noise. ( my speaker builds in the 90's is paying off.   Grin. )

So if you use all one cap it will filter best at freq x

If you use mixed caps it will filter multiple frequencies .

What do sound freq filters on an audio cap have to do with memory freq on a gpu.

they are  pretty much Both based  on the vibrational pattern of the electrical power passing through them.

My guess is the "noise" missed by a one cap size patteren on the gigabyte units  gets expressed as memory ram heat.

So hash rate fades when you run a higher memory freq for 2 or more hours.  The inferior caps get saturated and don't do the job.

This is another reason for delay of the 3080 units as some better cap work is getting done on them .  There was a great link in this section to a really good detailed article.  I am condensing the general ideas  in the article.

Let me look for it. As I do not take credit for what I said.
here are some of the articles.

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/evga-nvidia-rtx-3080-capacitor-caused-crashes

https://hothardware.com/news/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-stability-woes-faulty-capacitors

here are two cap patterns from article above

one is 2 sets of caps

other is all the same caps

That is what I read about the evga cards. So it is right on point.

Just passing by to tell you that even if I rarely spend time here recently, each time I do, I love to read your posts and comments Smiley. Thanks for sharing your insights!

When the people of the world will get that covid was intentionally released to frame china, steal the election from trump, assure massive bail outs and foster the forced vaccination agendas...they will forget, like 911, wmds in irak, uss liberty or pedogate.

they should give him bitcoin...Anyways call me crazy but since I sold my 4gb cards in the last profitability pump I bought some 5700s but mostly waited to see 3080s and rdna2.  I just bought some nice sapphire 5700xt at a decent price.  Still waiting to buy just one! 3080, and I doubt rdna2 will be available at launch as well.  Even then, its still gddr6 but with bandwidth increase.  Comes with price increase too.  So screw it, going the 5700xt way.  That is the way.  I'll be back buying if I can but I doubt it.  Gonna be hyped for when nvidia goes to tmsc 7nm in 2021.

Anyone check the new consoles yet ?  Might be cheaper to figure out how to mine with them, rdna2 10gb+ cheaper than just one 5700xt........

Hey. I take any coin.. I don't mind shit coins.

Today Best Buy had some 3080 and some 3090 and I got locked out of every purchase.
I can get an entire pc with a 3080 for about 1900 but not looking for that.

I would like a 3090 from Best Buy just to hook it up with the ryzen threadripper for  a few months.

Then return it or sell it or keep it.

Best Buy and amazon both have nice holiday return policy.  Which do me no good if I can't buy the card.

More often then not I keep them or sell them to someone here.

Well if it was true cost 769 + 54 tax = 823 and direct from EVGA I would have got 4 pieces

I got just the one and paid the 856.
I will hook it up with the threadripper 3970x.
The unit should pull 400-500 watts and will run in my house as a space heater until April.

I am also waiting for the better amd but I am not a fan of either. I just want good cards.

I stopped mining at nicehash due to poor stability.
I have almost every rig point at viabtc.com it is a very stable 1.85gh

Once I figure out  which I like more of I will push to get 20x of them.

I will be selling off all the 1080ti's

Are you mining Monero with the Threadripper?

I'm still having stability issues on NiceHash with SimpleMinerOS restarting on a regular basis and it's frustrating. I've been mining on Ethermine, but that means that I'm accumulating ETH instead of BTC.

I didn't bother going to VIABTC because I'm only running 1 rig with 4 cards and it will take me months to get a payout.

1.85 gh on viabtc takes 10 days to earn a coin. it will go to my coinbase account. i will cash it when it comes. not an eth fan. I still have two coins stuck in an old wallet which I will most likely never recover.
I should try to recover them again. have not tried since last year.

i mine monero with my two thread rippers.
22000 for the 3960
28000 for the 3970

i have amd 5500 card on each rig.

they earn a small profit
they heat my house

the threadrippers clock at 1.05 volts and at 3200 freq
the amd run 25 mh at 70 watts.

the two rigs earn about 4-5 a day and burn about 15 kwatts so if you have 20 cent power they make 1-2 a day and provide heat.

I have not turned my furnace on since march.
Once it gets to 35 f i need to turn some heat on.

but all of the above cost $$$ close to 4k .  now I sold older gear to help lower that bill.

and will likely sell these in april to upgrade to newer gear.

these are more for bragging rights then for profit as my home power is 10 cents for five months a year and 18 cents for 7 months a year.

the microcenter near me just got thirty 3090.  cheapest one was $1800... i was there looking to score 5xxx cpu, but no luck.  $1800 just isn't worth it for the 3090... i grabbed a msi 5700 XT return for $360 instead.  i'll wait for 3070/3080 to come into stock ... like everyone else.
