My rigs are completely full.  Now I have to decide to a try and get more cards and build another one at this point.

Also - I am using some old cards already paid for - 1060's at 25mh a pop that I could replace in the rigs at this point.

But I don't understand this July thing - although ROI would probably be a few months for whatever cards I can find.

Is it a good idea  at this point to build another rig?

Same thing I keep asking myself.  Figure if I am able to get some at MSRP in bulk, may sell half of them to pay for the ones I use, at least that way I am basically break even from the start.  Not so risky.  Not going to wimp out like I did back in 2015/2016 and stop mining.  I am also buying ETH/BTC every chance I get also.

Tough call for build out vs cash out.

I have tons of cheap power and could add 50-75 cards.
I have 60+ cards
I have L3+
I have sha 256 miners.

If I had no partners I would sell all the gear. Go on a holiday from mining. But with partners it is more complex.
When I look at this mining setup and look at the market I would say mining for 5 years makes more sense.

Also I am 64 years old while my mind is young and my body is still okay working every day has less appeal then it did 20 years ago.
With the covid-19 scare with myself and especially my wife. I know making money is not everything.

I would like spending some money and doing nothing but sight seeing for a while. I am going on a 7 hour roundtrip drive to look at a site to set up a farm. I do not want to support this farm once it is setup as 7 hour round trip drive means a sleep over if I am to do decent work.

I would consider looking for a colocation service instead if you are living in the same room as your miners.
I had a grow tent setup with 3500kw and the loudest part was the exhaust hose.  You can get pvc lined hose and wrap the outside with insulation to help with the noise and heat dissipation.  You can also get sound deadening board and create a box around the tent.

Yeah do these two

this is fire proof 78 by 78

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1F737R/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

these muffle sound

https://www.amazon.com/Sure-Max-Moving-Packing-Blankets-Furniture/dp/B073V5CRQ7/ref=sxin_9?

put the fire proof near the gear then the moving blanket

here is 1 more item

https://www.homedepot.com/p/UltraTouch-48-in-x-24-ft-Radiant-Barrier-with-Recycled-Cotton-30000-11424/100661257

setup would be

[gear] [fire blanket ][radiant barrier][moving blanket] is best
[gear] [fire blanket][moving blanket] is second best
{Gear}{radiant barrier}{moving blanket}  is third best

if you skip fireblanket make sure to point the silver part of the radiant barrier at the gear. as it is heat resistant.

the only bad setup is moving blanket alone as they may not be fire resistant.

I remember back in the day I wanted to make my Antminer quieter. And instead of buying the mufflers I just took a large cooler, cut holes in the front and back and put it inside. My biggest worry was that the PSU would overheat because of bad air flow so I just kept the PSU outside of the cooler.

Was it silent ? No but it was much much quieter. So you could do it with an Antminer or 2 but if you got a dozen of those it just wasn’t possible.

Never had to do it for GPUs because they were always quiet.

I have not had any luck with their shuffle but I did score a 5700xt from them this week just using the Auto-Notify feature.  Also got a 3070 from B&H but it was an email offer, they didn't list on their site.  Had to call in and give a code to order.

What 5700xt was it?  I got a Power Cooler Red Devil for an outrageous price from Newegg.  Didn't last long even at $679.  I saw a MSI for the same price but missed it.

On B&H how did you sign up for the email offer?  I watch them and have been wondering why I haven't seen any drops all week from them.

Thats the same 5700 I got also, the Red Devil.

On B&H, they just pulled my info from where I had it on Auto Notify at random from what I understood.  Was able to order a MSI 3070 Gaming X Trio by calling in.

Just now getting back into mining after a 4 year or so break and trying to get enough cards to put at least 1 rig together.  I currently have 4 3060ti systems mining but still have stuff minus the GPU's to build 2 open air rigs from where I used to mine.  I even signed up for wholesale accounts with several the largest computer parts wholesalers in the country to increase the chances of getting in bulk but no luck yet.

Thanks for responding.  That's nice on BH.  I like them as they mostly ship out fast for me, although I have 1 Gigabyte Vision 3080 order from 2-2-21 that is on back order with them.

I'm pretty sure wholesalers are backlogged and if orders were not put in last December or November it will be a good 4-6 months before orders get filled.

About a month ago a buddy introduced me to a guy who was waiting on an order of 400 cards and looking to get more.  He had some investors, a good location with low power but I can't get cards by the 100's and he they didn't want to do a rig's worth of cards at a time.  Shame to as he would be on 20-25 cards by now.

Some asics must have went live yesterday as there was a huge jump in hashrate for one day from just over 423,000 ghs on Friday to 437,561.5037 GH/s yesterday.

Its crazy.  Hashrate is up estimated by 50% since Jan 1st.  50%  Angry !  And it was already up a lot compared to the summer.  Good things fees bring good rewards here and there.  Although that won't last forever, as playing around with Uniswap or buying NFT's or doing DEFI (so many acronyms...) is really way too expensive.  I bought a plot of land on sandbox.game to put my dog's picture up, but that's wasted ETH most likely (actually most certainly).
On another note, I kinda wrote a short book and its free on amazon.  It's called "The economics of crypto-currency mining" so go have a look if you are interested.  Big thanks to Phil he got to read an early copy and had great suggestions and critique, and let me post the link here.  Its on kindle but should be on paperback for cheap later.  Also a big thanks to all who participate in Phil's threads or mining threads and share information. www.amazon.com/dp/B08Y78RQF1

https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

March 6   437,000 gh or 4.37 million nvidia 3080's
March 1   421,000 gh or 4.21 million nvidia 3080's
Feb.   26  419,000 gh or 4.19 million nvidia 3080's
Feb.   19  409,000 gh or 4.09 million nvidia 3080's
Feb.   13  388,000 gh or 3.88 million nvidia 3080's
Feb.     8  380,000 gh or 3.80 million nvidia 3080's
Feb.     3. 359,000 gh or 3.59 million nvidia 3080's
Jan.    29  346,000 gh or 3.46 million Nvidia 3080's
Jan.    21. 333,000 gh of 3.33 million Nvidia 3080's
Jan.    11 321,000 gh or 3.21 million Nvidia 3080's
Jan.     9  311,000 gh or 3.11 million Nvidia 3080's
Jan.     1  293,000 gh or 2.93 million Nvidia 3080's

Steady upwards move but eth rallied back in price a bit to 1,651 usd

It was around 730 on jan 1 2021

so. 1651/730 = 2.26 to 1

and

437/293 =  1.49 to 1

fees are still pretty high 1.61%

and it is $0.0852 per mh
so a 3080 makes $8.52 a day with 50 cent to 1.52 for power
or 7-8 a day after power.

Does it mean go buy 50x 2000 dollar 3080 units no it does not .

But I am content to get one or two at a time for 1200 or less. They do become available at that price here and there/.

I think the reason why the hashrate is so high up is not the amount of GPUs or ASICs being produced being added to the network but its the old GPUs which were never mining start to mine for the first time.

People either are seeing crazy profits and decide to mine themselves with Nicehash or they see the crazy amounts of money people are selling their GPUs for on Craigslist and eBay so they decide to sell their GPU at a great price and either wait a few months to buy some newer and better GPU or just stop gaming all together. Or game with some old GPU they had laying around. Then that GPU which was never mined before, finally starts mining and adds to the hashrate.

There is truth to this.  Eth is back to 1720 today.  I still think it can top 3k in the next 3-6 months.

BTW Phil I remember you posted links to sound proofing blankets somewhere but I have searched and searched trying to find them.  Can you share a link.

Thinking I am going to have to do something about the rigs in the bedrooms.  I have them near windows, with window fan set to exhaust all their hot air out.  Temps have been fine but its the noise.  Thinking about getting one of those grow tents and throwing a sound proofing blanket over it.

Yeah do these two

this is fire proof 78 by 78

setup would be

[gear] [fire blanket ][radiant barrier][moving blanket] is best
[gear] [fire blanket][moving blanket] is second best
{Gear}{radiant barrier}{moving blanket}  is third best

if you skip fireblanket make sure to point the silver part of the radiant barrier at the gear. as it is heat resistant.

the only bad setup is moving blanket alone as they may not be fire resistant.

Thanks Phil.  I actually have those blankets from my recent move.  I have one rig in an empty bedroom but it has Vega's in it which are really loud.  I have another rig and some of sidehack's  r606 in the garage that I am going to need to move as its starting to get too warm in there for them.  Going to try and devise something to quiet both of the mining rigs.

Okay then get a few fire blankets

do rigs >> fire blankets >> moving blanket

a tent or a curtain setup will help

Thinking I am going to have to do something about the rigs in the bedrooms.  I have them near windows, with window fan set to exhaust all their hot air out.  Temps have been fine but its the noise.  Thinking about getting one of those grow tents and throwing a sound proofing blanket over it.

Yeah do these two

put the fire proof near the gear then the moving blanket

here is 1 more item

https://www.homedepot.com/p/UltraTouch-48-in-x-24-ft-Radiant-Barrier-with-Recycled-Cotton-30000-11424/100661257

setup would be

[gear] [fire blanket ][radiant barrier][moving blanket] is best
[gear] [fire blanket][moving blanket] is second best
{Gear}{radiant barrier}{moving blanket}  is third best

if you skip fireblanket make sure to point the silver part of the radiant barrier at the gear. as it is heat resistant.

the only bad setup is moving blanket alone as they may not be fire resistant.

Fireblankets arriving tueesday.  I'll post pics on the experiment.

I have done lots of rigs in the garage and got decent results for under 100 bucks worth of Fire + Moving blankets.
