In this thread we will discuss about international Test cricket. I guess it was a community demand from long ago. The first time I noticed it when we had this world cup prediction pool.

@royse and everyone : guys do you think that we need dedicated thread for test cricket? If yes then some senior member please open new thread for "Test cricket "  main thread doesn't look good with big flag and spam.

The topic is self moderated to prevent spam.

Its very good idea and I am first who is going to contribute today we have test between England vs Ireland and England is struggling as they lost 3 wickets and just 36 runs on board look like this is going to be very interesting match before start of big Ashes Roost and Bairstow  is on pitch for recovering this early lost.

Oh snap! I was not aware about it. When did Ireland got test status?

Indeed England are struggling (looking at the scoreboard) right now but this is too early to predict anything against England. It's only the first session of day 1, we still have all the sessions left. It's test cricket and team like England will come back from any situation.

Looks like a T20 match and what a match. Everyone, including me, thought Ireland were going to lose badly but looks like they have great bowlers. Murtagh should get the MOM now

LOL England 52/7 and against a team like Ireland. I still don't know when this Irish team got Test status. I think it's the over confidence which caused this damage for England. If this was Australia or any other strong team then we would not see this score board. The batsmen were more sensible then.

I am looking for a channel to see some of the overs LOL

Tim Murtagh. 5 wickets for 11 runs. The man is just tearing up the English batting order with some incredible swing/seam bowling.  

Is this even salvageable for England at this point? I understand that it's very early in the test, but thats one of the worst scores I can remember seeing for a first innings!

But Thompson came and ruined it.

They would have got all out for 50. This would add up to their record 58 runs in 2018 test match. I want Adair back to ruin England now lol. I want Broad's wicket now.

Well three more wickets and then the first inning wraps up. Ireland will have two full innings and entire time of this test match. If they can manage good score in the first inning then in the 2nd inning whatever English scores it will be easier for them to chase. There won't be much run to chase for them.

I do not think England will score 400+ runs in the 2nd innings, looking at the performance in this innings of course.

Jokes aside, honestly speaking it's a shame for England. First international match after (who cares the format) they became world champion and they are performing their worst against a team who are not a regular test playing country (Come on guys, can anyone confirm when Ireland got test status LOL).

Thanks bud. I managed to get the news. So, if Ireland somehow manage to win this test (BIG LOL) then will they be the nation who will win their first test in very short time?

I am very poor in looking at history. May be JSRAW has it. :-P

Its all end Ireland done great job just 23.4 overs and All England team bundled out  for 85 runs just 3 players reach double figure now we have to watch how Ireland batting line up give response because if they able to do some good score then surely its going to be historic win for them.

Before proceeding to New Zealand, South Africa engaged in their concluding Test match with Australia and for the fifth time were defeated, Australia, although scoring only 153, winning in an innings with 72 runs to spare. For this game Australia brought in L. Nash, a Tasmanian fast bowler who jumped into prominence by taking seven wickets for fifty runs when the tourists played Tasmania. Short, but of powerful build, Nash made the ball rise in very awkward fashion, several of them getting head high. He and Ironmonger proved so effective on a pitch slightly on the soft side that in a little more than ninety minutes South Africa were dismissed for the sorry total of 36. This was not their lowest total in Test cricket for they had twice been got rid of previously by England for 30 - at Port Elizabeth in 1895-96 and at Birmingham in 1924. Their lowest score before this in Test matches against Australia was 80 at Melbourne in 1910-11. Cameron alone reached double figures and Ironmonger had the remarkable analysis of five wickets for six runs.

Before the day was over there were further surprises, Australia being got rid of for 153. The wicket appeared a little easier, but Bell, Quinn and McMillan were all able to get considerable work on the ball. Woodfull was out first ball, but Fingleton and Rigg put on 51, the only other stand being that between Kippax and Nash which produced 37. Australia's total was their smallest against South Africa, the previous lowest being 175 at Johannesburg in 1902-03. South Africa, 117 behind, lost one wicket for five runs before play ceased for the day, and on the Saturday no cricket took place, heavy rain during the night and a further downfall soon after two o'clock preventing any chance of a resumption. On the Monday, however, there came more sensational play.

The game was not proceeded with until quarter past two and then in less than an hour and a half the last nine South African wickets went down for another 40 runs. Thus South Africa were twice dismissed for an aggregate of 81, the lowest total for two innings ever recorded in the history of Test match cricket. The wicket was very difficult and Ironmonger once more proved practically unplayable. He dismissed six men for eighteen runs, thus having a record in the match of eleven wickets for 24. Five batsmen failed to score and only Curnow reached double figures.

The third wicket fell at 25 and then, with the sun coming out, the wicket became terribly treacherous, the last seven batsmen being dismissed for another 20 runs.

Time Less Test Match

Friday, 3 March 1939
Today marks the anniversary of the longest cricket test match in history. The game was played between South Africa and England in Durban. The game continued until the 14 March - 9 days in total. England needed 41 runs to win at the close of the 9th day, but the match was drawn because the English players had to leave to catch their boat back to England.

Due to the draw result, and the length of this match, it is often referred to as the 'timeless' test, and the only one of its kind in history.

Luck played a big factor for England when they won the world cup and that luck did not translate here in this test match against non test playing nation 
Since this is a test match Ireland has the opportunity to post a huge total in their first innings and then put pressure on the English batsmen and try to send them packing again and win the test match, it all depends upon how much runs Ireland can score in their first innings.

It's just a first day and Ireland playing his first inning in this test. We have second inning as well for England and Ireland, so the match is not going to finish today if Ireland reach the 85 runs target

What's wrong with England batsman? I didn't watch the match at all, just checked the score. How they score 85 only against Ireland?
Ireland is so far in good position. Will it be the first one for Ireland?

By the way, I was asking for the nation to win a test match in shortest waiting time after they get the Test status :-) I think Sri Lanka had to wait a decade or something to get the taste of a Test win.

Back to the current test, Ireland just lost their first wicket. 32 for 1 now. Although this is not a high profile match but since it's turning out to be an upset match, people will triggered to gamble and the bookies will make good money.
