On the first day of the 4th test between India and England, ENG scored 302/7 at the end of day one. ENG started positively, but debutant Akash Deep ended the party by picking up 2 wickets in one over. Root stabilized the inning with Bairstow, but the latter could not convert his start into a massive inning. Overall, today was a Root show all along with some cameos. Akash Deep picked up 3 wickets. Day 2's first session will be of utmost importance for England to score over 400 in the first innings. At the moment, India is ahead after day 1.

Personally I believe that the Indian selectors did a blunder here, by allowing two seamers in the playing XI. Also, if there need to be two seamers, then I would have rather gone for Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar, rather than going for the useless Mohammed Siraj. Siraj picked up two wickets, but he was very expensive early on. And now Indians need to deal with the 8th wicket partnership between Joe Root and Ollie Robinson. They have already added 62 runs till now. These are very valuable contributions.

England kept India out for a full day, that didn't happen much in this series. Except for the 1st session, everything went England's way and Root saved the day for Poms, he was simply brilliant but for India's POV, tail wagging in the end was disturbing.

Umpiring was atrocious throughout the day and they even messed up plumb lbw, even 3rd umpire looked in a bit of a hurry but you can't blame on-field umpiring much if you burn all your reviews.

Ashwin is having a quiet series, which is painful to see and one of the reasons Indians will feel the heat in this match.

Thanks to Root England are back in the game, I won't be surprised if continues in the same way tomorrow. What I like the most is Ollie Robinson gave him the support that was lacking in the earlier series by the English bowlers. I saw for the first time Jaiswal bowling in an international game and he did quite well than the regular bowlers. DRS was gone because Sir Jadeja as usual forced Rohit to take the last one and it proved that it was unnecessary. Under pressure, Rohit is a bad captain as he always makes mistakes with fielding and choice of bowlers

Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of IPL 2024 due to his ankle injury. I came across a post on Reddit about it not sure if it is true.

England are putting up a decent fight at the moment courtesy of Root who clearly stopped forcing himself to use the Bazball approach which turned out to be the right decision because Bazball is overrated.

Akash was brilliant while the spinners didn't have a great day. The English innings would have probably concluded by now if Bumrah was still part of the lineup.

Hartley can bat, and with Root on other side, they could musher up big partnership and be a headache as Foakes-Root partnership. Whether England can cross 350 will largely depend on how long current pair remains on crease, as one them gets out, it'll be game over for England as neither Anderson or Bashir can bat.

England make a good comback after some early bad performances and defeat, now England has scored a decent runs with contribution of thier quality batter and some lower middle order player and I am sure tomorrow they will make it better like around 400 which will be in my mind a tough target for India to chase it down, anyway India were always delivery decent results at thier home ground so it will be a good opportunity to get grip on series or in other case their opponent will level the series by 2-2 and then last match will be like pressure mounting situation for them because they will already lose two consecutive match which will have a bad impact on thier performance so India should try hard to divert results in thier favour in order to tackle such trouble situation

England would try to get a quick 150+ in the morning and let India bat. They might hold a bit if joe root closes to a double century. The average runs has kept increasing on every of the test and 450 is an ideal point the English team would aim for. They would also want to take some wickets before resting for the 2nd day.
With two lost Test matches, England would be hoping for a win to keep the race on.

I wouldn't say England is on top just yet. We need to wait and see the final total and how India responds. yeah a decent day for England, but they need to keep it up over the next few days. It's definitely an improvement from the last test. Joe Root is playing his natural game, scoring fluently and at a decent rate. His partner Robinson is also playing his natural game, which is important for setting a big target. It's hard to say what a decent total is. We can't be certain until both sides have batted.

Actually it was Mark Wood who troubled the Indian batsman last time. Wood relies on raw pace, and that sort of bowing is more suitable than swing-seam bowling in the dead tracks of India. James Anderson on the other hand got only one wicket in the 3rd test and conceded a total of 139 runs in both the innings. And the only wicket that he got was that of tail-ender Kuldeep Yadav. However this time, the England selectors replaced Mark Wood with Ollie Robinson. That means that they will have two bowlers who are dependent on swing/seam bowling.

Tbh Umpiring was shit as well, which at times kinda forced Rohit's hand but yeah Jaddu is an exciting customer when it comes to DRS, similar to Siraj.

The match might look in balance but the Indian team could go into depression if England managed to cross 350 or touch the 400 mark. Indian batters are in form and one could expect good response from them but we shouldn't forget it's a very inexperienced batting lineup.

Yeah, Shami is ruled out for good.
