Actually in this case Dani Alves was good he left at that time and when he came back last season this would not bring any results and indeed Barcelona's condition was also quite difficult so even though he didn't want to but it would be better if he left again.

Maybe he decided to stay in PSG because of three reasons.

PSG gives him too high salary and more importance role together with bigger power in the club.
He saw a future that PSG will win Champions League and he will be a hub of PSG success.
He saw that Real Madrid are facing with ageing issues and they don't have good plan to handle it in near future. So if he joins them, he will waste a few seasons when Real Madrid rebuild their team.

I think he had good decision for his career. Stay in PSG three more seasons. If they succeed, he can sign a new contract. If they fail, he can join Real Madrid and three years are long enough to assess how Real Madrid rebuild their team.

The money part is the only one that matters for him in this case. I mean real could deage as well, they have many young players nowadays, and Mbappe could have grown up with them and win something, even as quickly as this year again. The only reason was money and nothing more. The deal is 120 million dollars signing bonus, and 60 million a year salary for 5 seasons all guaranteed. Do not tell me that Mbappe could have gotten anything even remotely similar from any other team in the world? Sure, 39 years is retirement. He is a good defender. But the current age may be that he will find it difficult to compete. This decision actually also gave consequences because Barcelona had to buy new players. The problem right now is the state of their money. They don't have much money and there is still a lot of debt. They sold De Jong, but they haven't obtained a deal yet.
I read, if Barcelona are interested in Cesar Azpilicueta, from chelsea. But he's 32 years old maybe not young but experienced and still good for another 2 or 3 years. As for young players, maybe it's worth the price. If they want to buy players who are already ready then it will probably be more expensive.

Marcelo will be recognized as Madrid legend especially his achievement and loyality for Madrid and for the  replacement of him i'm sure Ancelotti already thinking about it but last season Ferland Mendy has did a good job in Marcelo position and i think he had impressive performance during play as wingback but besides that Madrid probably will looking for another players to covered Mendy position just in case if someday Mendy performance decrease and the names such as Antonio Rüdiger or Marcos Alonso linked to them but indeed Alonso isn't young anymore and Madrid have to find young players in that position for regeneration
