Barcelona could not possibly register all their players due to FFP regulations, actually Barcelona wanted to release De Jong because he was one of the highest paid players, but he refused to leave and the offer of a pay cut was unsuccessful. With the situation unfavorable, Barcelona must look for other options, selling Ter Stegen could be done because he is included in the list of players who burden the club finances. It's going to be down to Barcelona and Real Madrid for sure though.

This may be a little different in terms of how the league goes because for sure with things like this Madrid will not walk alone in the race for the title.
As for the defense issue, I quite agree with what you said because their defense is too stiff now, especially there are still players who are quite old. Of course barcelona had to release some of their players to be able to register him this season. I don't think Marc-André ter Stegen is one to sell, but it's still possible about some other players like Mingueza, De Jong, Riqui Puig, Sergi Roberto, Depay or Martin Braithwaite.

But it's always possible to let Ter Stegen go this season especially because barcelona have 2 other young goalkeepers like Inaki Pena and Arnau Tenas. Neto is also not used very often because Ter Stegen has been a mainstay almost every season in Laliga, Champions League or other competitions so there is an option to release one of them if needed.

There was still a lot of heat on the match between this two in their el clasico . A derby is a derby there will always be heat between big rivals. Also i think this season will be really intresting in laliga for the title. Barcelona never looked better in last 10 years
