I am quite sure this story will go and on the whole summer and if there is any decision it will be announced in the very last moment only. I don't think they will buy both players at once. If there is going to be any signing, it will be one of the 2. Real Madrid has a lot of work to do, including patching up the back line too after the departure of Ramos.

I don't think that they should endeavor to buy them both. Even buying one of them would help Real Madrid a lot on attacking. Signing Mbappe seems impossible this summer already. They should fully focus on bringing Haaland to the club. He can absolutely solve Real Madrid's scoring problem.
