Provocation gone wrong: Murky forces instigating Odessa violence?

Video footage filmed during the bloody events in Odessa that claimed dozens of lives on Friday shows a more complicated picture, with provocateurs apparently backed by security forces instigating the violence. Ukrainian authorities blamed the pro-autonomy activists for starting the clashes that led to the tragic fire at the House of Trade Unions. The interior ministry stated that anti-Kiev activists attacked supporters of Kiev authorities before retreating to the building for shelter, and threw petrol bombs at the crowd triggering the fire.

Shooting reported in E. Ukraine as crackdown continues

There was a shooting on the outskirts of Slavyansk as pro-government troops raided a protester checkpoint, RIA Novosti reported on Monday. The agency said at least six people were injured and another one, a woman, was killed in the attack on the checkpoint. Ukraine’s acting Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, who is near Slavyansk, confirmed that Kiev has re-launched its crackdown on the protesters. He said up to eight troops have been injured in the clashes so far

ATM and branch services have been halted. In person bank services in the two cities have been closed down temporarily as turmoil in Eastern Ukraine poses a threat to staff safety, the bank said in a statement on its website today. Staff will not continue working in the regions and have been put on indefinite leave.

I love the fact that they burned these banks down rather than looting them! It expresses people's genuine anger. This is not about money- it about resisting pro fascist oligarchs.

Dozens injured, fatalities on both sides as Kiev’s military op continues

There were fatalities among both Kiev loyalists and local militia members after governmental troops renewed their crackdown on the defiant eastern Ukrainian protester stronghold of Slavyansk. The death toll may be over 20.

More people dead. Sad.
It looks like the total death toll is well over 200 now, if the reports of slaughtered people in the trade Union cellars come to pass.

Russia has been calling on the Ukrainian government to engage in direct dialogue with the protesters, saying it is the only way to prevent the violence from escalating. Moscow has called on the Western sponsors of the authorities in Kiev to put leverage on them and push for negotiations.

The call for dialogue is shared by Germany. Its foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said on Sunday that a second round of Geneva talks is needed to stop the bloodshed and produce a “clear conclusion as to how this conflict can be brought to a halt.” A German government spokesperson later confirmed that Chancellor Angela Merkel support the idea.

Evacuation plans have been prepared by other parts of the Jewish community.

RT: During the crisis in Ukraine, we've seen a lot of provocations. But in this case we clearly see people hiding behind police shields, clearly cooperating with police. What do you make of that?

Nebojsa Malic: According to all the evidence that I have seen, the entire thing in Odessa was a giant false flag operation. It was a provocation, it was one of those stage massacres that the pro-Western forces from Bosnia to Kosovo, now Ukraine excel at staging, intended to draw Russia to overreact to commit military forces so that the coup government as well as its sponsors in the West could have justification in saying, “Oh that is the case of Russian invasion, and everything we have been saying is correct.” I believe that the fact that they are willing to stage such a horrendous atrocity shows the depth of their desperation at this point.

RT: What can you say about the way the police were behaving that day?

NM: The behavior of the police if taken at face value is very baffling, because if they were supposedly cooperating with these alleged pro-Russian activists why did they stand by and allow Right Sector thugs to surround the building and burn alive 40 plus people, it doesn’t compute. Obviously, if the police in Odessa are loyal to the coup government and they were seen with these alleged pro-Russian activists, Occam's razor dictates that these were nor actual pro-Russian activists, but rather false flag operatives in cahoots with police.

In Kramatorsk, the funeral of the 21-year old nurse Yulia Izotova went on peacefully. She was shot dead by the Right Sector extremists while traveling from Slavyansk to Kramatorsk.

Center of Kramatorsk remains under control of anti-Kiev protesters & militia. But they've lost control of checkpoints in nearby towns/villages.

I wouldn't want to be in Mr. Putin's skin right now. Whatever he does, consequences look grim. If he stays silent and doesn't send army to protect Russian ethnic minority, eventually people are going to be overwhelmed by superior Ukrainian forces, and their rebellion suppressed. Putin's reputation and credibility on both domestic and international terrain will get tremendous hit. If he intervenes, Russia will face political isolation and harsh economic sanctions and not only that - many Russian soldiers will return home in coffins, it's inevitable.
