We may have to double check this one, Rassah.

http://www.cooljoliet.net/About.html

Quote
Cool Joliet is a coalition of groups and individuals that reflect the greater diversity of Joliet and the surrounding area; The Joliet Area Congregation Organized Bodies (JACOB) group of many area churches, First Presbyterian Church of Joliet, the Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet, Potluck Democracy, Community Alliance and Action Network (C.A.A.N.), Will County Environmental Network, and others. The Cool Joliet Coalition is very much a grassroots, volunteer organization.

We welcome all individuals & groups that will work together for common goals in advocating for a healthy environment. Feel

free to (contact) us.

Asked, and got a reply:

Quote
When we first formed Cool Joliet some of the people who were part of the formation committee were members of JACOB (which has since morphed into Unity CDC which is not associated with churches even though it's the same people.). The Presbyterian Church let us meet there (not so much anymore - we meet at a school now) and there were members of the Universalist Unitarian Church who attended our meetings. But also one reads that C.A.A.N., Potluck Democracy and Will County Environmental Network  are mentioned. C.A.A.N. is an lgbtq organization, potluck democracy is a political one and will county environmental has morphed into C.A.R.E. (Citizens Against Ruining the Environment). 3 church mentions for 3 not churches.

Perhaps these links will be more convincing that CJ is secular:
illinoissierraclub.blogspot.com <-------- I don't think anything is churchy here.
southtownstar.suntimes <-------------- don't see church here either.
will-county-board-republicans-freeze-cool-county-effort <------- even republicans don't think we're churchy.

For what it's worth we're not part of the Sierra Club either.
Despite our group's divergent opinions we are united on doing whatever we can to make a healthy environment.

Cool Joliet's mission is to educate and empower Joliet and area residents about the importance of a healthy and sustainable environment.

Our new project is a movable container garden for families of limited income. Five families who currently have to utilize the services of a food pantry will be chosen to grow 5 vegetables that will provide a relatively balanced diet. The outcome will be a measured. We hope to show that by providing seeds, soil, and a relatively inexpensive container that families can provide for themselves.
Even if we don't get a donation by Bitcoin100 there is one member of Cool Joliet who is a Bitcoin believer who will continue to proselytize bitcoin (but not religion).

So, um, I think they're ok...

http://www.cooljoliet.net/

Fair enough, Rassah. We made them work hard enough for it.

I'm stopping here for now: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52543.msg5832564#msg5832564

Just a handful of the news ones you suggested, Rassah. Will do tomorrow. All posts prior has been addressed, thus up to date with nothing pending, sans what's contained in the link above.

I still can't believe we're endowing lawyers. Just as bad as that gal who lived in a tree wanting bitcoins, not to mention all them furries.

I'd like to suggest https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/individual-fundraising/thewarriorwalk/

Josh is walking from SC to CA to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. He is a great guy and former Professional MMA fighter.

This is a noble endeavor by one of America's finest but, unfortunately, it won't qualify because chiefly the cause isn't a standalone NPO, but one of many on http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.

Ideally, we would love to endow http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ if they opt to embed a Bitcoin donation option onto their website.

Please let us/me know if I'm somehow mistaken.

~Bruno Kucinskas
Let me talk with them and see if I can make it a reality. I'll update when I have news either way. Thanks, Bruno.

Hello Rasah and Phineus,

I had PM'd Rasah regarding a nomination for my medical school, to which he asked me to post on here. I'm a student at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, PA and have been pretty fascinated with the Bitcoin concept over the past few months now. I apologize if this note is a bit long, but I figured the more informative it is the better idea your organization may have in addressing my request.

My school is pretty young and has been open for only around 6 years now. It was founded almost only to address the largely unnoticed (nationally) but very significant healthcare gap/physician shortage in northeastern PA (NEPA). The school's mission statement, classes, and massive ongoing community outreach programs (many of which are integrated into our curriculum also) are all ultimately structured to address the needs of NEPA's population. In my few 6 months here, things like free health care fairs (screenings for multiple chronic conditions, free flu shots, education, etc.), educating regional Boy Scouts on various first aid situations/techniques, free symposiums hosting reputed clinicians and researchers on chronic conditions that are more prevalent in the region (e.g. geriatric care), inviting local farmers and fresh food entrepreneurs to share ideas and products that may promote healthier lifestyles for the community, raising funds/awareness through fundraisers and tournaments, conducting/publishing research alongside local health care partners, and constantly holding events to raise funds/goods for local charities are just a few of the ideas I've seen the few hundred students on campus create, lead, and be a part of, solely in the spirit of volunteerism.

The great effort by the school and its faculty to foster an education that holds these community ideals can be seen in our school's mission statement:

http://www.thecommonwealthmedical.com/values

From my understanding after reading other posts and information on your site, Bitcoin100's mission seems to be to increase the use/awareness of BTC by charities more so than just donating to any specific cause. Currently our school's donation page has listed many ways for people to donate, but if Bitcoin100 would be willing, I am willing to go to whatever lengths it takes to speak to the administration regarding adding BTC as another form of donation to this page:

http://www.thecommonwealthmedical.com/oth/Page.asp?PageID=OTH000811

Personally, the cause I wish to use your donation is with a church here directly next to our school that takes a bigger lead on helping a lot of the homeless and long-term unemployed in the city, and currently they are accepting item donations to help families/people that need it. Our school is also helping them in this cause. Being from Washington D.C., I was pretty taken back when I moved here last summer by the toll the economy has taken on this city...something D.C. has sort of been shielded from. I've seen my share of homeless in bigger metropolises (even in India as I'm from India), but seeing such a large homeless and unemployed population in a small city like this is pretty alarming...especially considering how brutal this winter has been.

I've been trying to raise awareness and whatever funds I can, and recently thought of trying to raise BTC for the purpose as well. A flyer our school is running for the church I've uploaded here:

http://s17.postimg.org/qjs8c6lvj/20140221_173054.jpg

In terms of raising BTC awareness, I know through a donation I could definitely make sure that Bitcoin100 is recognized at the medical school and at the church, but I'm not sure if that would be enough for what you require. Although donating to an institution may seem a bit unique, as a student (who is significantly in student loan debt) I assure you that if donations are made for any specific use, such as towards the fundraiser I am trying to raise funds for, they will be used for that purpose and by a student/faculty body that truly does have the knowledge, experience, and passion to make legitimate differences in peoples' lives.

I'm looking forward to your comments/thoughts on whether you would be willing to make a donation towards my efforts. Thank you for your time and your site's efforts that I'm sure have made an impact globally. Feel free to PM me with any questions as well.

I guess by update, you mean blog post. You had me worried there for a minute.

Phinnaeus put together the site and is responsible for 99% of the content other than the Charities page. Since he's (sort of) stepped down, the site has kind of languished.

I fully intend to give it a facelift and implement some improvements once time permits. I've been wanting to post on the blog also but there just aren't enough hours in the day.

I really envy those of you who've quit your mundane jobs to work on bitcoin related ventures full time!

Still around.

I am volunteering for an organisation called New Harvest. They are a US registered non-profit advancing alternatives to conventionally produced meat, mostly focusing on cultured meat.

Their website:
http://www.new-harvest.org/

We apologize for not getting back with you kind folks earlier. That said, good news! Looks like your venerable cause will soon be endowed by Bitcoin 100.

It is with GREAT delay that I announce, $1,000 has been sent: https://blockchain.info/tx/6748f3944c2074bfcfcc9e00e5e72b41e6b8c5a0712190ba398ef1299d786fcb

I'm doing something different this time during the vetting process. All I did was view the video here http://vimeo.com/53107659 and realized that I didn't need to see anything further.

Assuming they're secular, they pass, Rassah.

We'll take any help we can get. I want to change the site a bit to make it a resource for Bitcoin-accepting charities. Ideally I would like to have ALL charities that accept bitcoin on our list, with our Bitcoin100 accepted&donated ones marked with some sort of a seal (like BTC100 approved or something).

Hi!

I run a not for profit and we accept bit coins. Please see

http://singmeastory.org/donate

We would love a donation of $1000. Thank you so much!

We started accepting Bitcoin in December. One of my closest friends gave me a bit coin for our wedding in October and insisted I learn more about it and allow our org to accept bit coin. We did Smiley He then sent me a note the other day letting me know about you all.

Let me know if ya'll need anything from us. Thank you so much for what you are doing. Bitcoin rocks.

We initially got this request some time early in March, but it took a while for me to get back to them. Not sure if December is too long of a wait.

Hi Rassah,

Here's a short description of our charity:

Pastoralist Child Foundation's (http://www.pastoralist-child-foundation.org/) mission is to prevent harmful tribal practices in rural Kenya that prevent girls from achieving their full potentials.  Practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM/C) and forced marriages of young girls are still going on. There's a movement of young and old, working together to eradicate these age-old traditions and replace them with alternative rites of passage and access to education for marginalized girls.  We work in Samburu and Maasai Mara, Kenya.  We also provide educational sponsorships (scholarships) to pay for boarding school tuition, exam fees, uniforms, shoes, school supplies, backpacks, medical check-ups, sheets, blankets, pillows, personal toiletries and iron lock boxes for the girls we sponsor.  In addition, we provide community educational workshops on FGM, forced marriage, teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, health and sanitation.

We're a registered 501C3 nonprofit charity in the USA. We are saving lives and working to improve life outcomes in marginalized communities. The links to our website and social media are under my signature.

Thank you. We look forward to your response. We'd really like to start accepting Bitcoins and will follow your instructions.

Best regards,

The Bitcoin100 website finally got a facelift!    http://bitcoin100.org/charities/

I still plan on listing all Bitcoin accepting charities and begin blogging more. Please let me know of any and every BTC accepting charity you're aware of, whether or not they're eligible for a Bitcoin100 endowment, and I'll mention them.

I'm also open to suggestions/comments for improving the site.

Still around.

I came across this charity run by university students in NZ - 100Percent.org.nz

They provide a platform for students to sign up & offer tutoring services, with 100% of fees earned going out to the tutors' charity of choice.
The site retains none of the revenue, and hence is dependent on donations to fund their operations and ongoing developments.
Their Donations Page already has a Bitcoin address. Sounds like they are a good charity to support.

Seems legit to me. Added.

Still around.

Another list to review:

Hi,

I volunteer at a local non-profit in Squamish, BC (Canada) (http://www.seatoskycommunity.org/)
I am currently trying to convince them to accept bitcoin donations. They are receptive to the idea, but have some concerns about regulations. We are gathering more information to revisit the question at the next board meeting (in about 2 weeks.)
I just wanted to enquire about bitcoin100's process. I have told them about the possibility of a $1000 donation, although I made sure to stress that it wasn't guaranteed. If they decide to accept bitcoin donations, we will add a bitcoin donation button/page to the website, and possibly start accepting bitcoins for services (there is a a bookstore and computer lab - both of which are raising money for the non-profit).
Once we get to that point, I can have one of the directors contact you to start whatever sort of screening process you go through for potential applicants. This is just an initial inquiry for some more info.

Thanks,

Jeremy M.

--------------------

I brought it to the board and they decided to accept bitcoin donations. I am in the process of setting up a bitpay account and adding a bitcoin donation page to the website. (http://www.seatoskycommunity.org/)
If you can submit our organization for review, to get the process started, that would be wonderful.

Note, they contacted me a while ago, and just recently added a bitcoin donation option.

Hi Dmitry,

I am with Africa's Children-Africa's Future (AC-AF). We recently just launched a donation option via bitpay but have yet to receive any kind of funding.  I worked hard to push the rest of the board to employ bitcoin and that it was safe.

Would it be possible to get listed as a charity on your site?  This may help us with getting funding as we are not likely to meet our target this year and may have to forgo our office space as a result.

Thanks,

I learned about bitcoin a few months ago, and have been reading and listening to everything I can get my hands on to gain a deeper understanding. I heard about your organization through a video, titled The Truth About Bitcoin, on YouTube. I believe that it will benefit our organization to start accepting donations in bitcoin on our website, and we would love to receive a generous $1000 donation from bitcoin100.org.

Dear Jen,

Please meet my friend Dmitry. We met in business school and he now runs a foundation that is looking for worthy nonprofits to donate to. He recently donated $1,000 each to my friend Jessie's IBME and my friend Amy's Primate Education Network. I think he will really appreciate the work you're doing with Project Northstar.

@Dmitry, I met Jen because a friend of mine volunteers with Northstar and really loves it. Jen is smart, super friendly and very passionate about the program, which provides free after school tutoring and homework help for DC kids. They could make a big difference with a $1,000 donation.

Good luck!

to Frankie, me

Thanks so much Frankie for connecting us!

Dmitry - I love the concept of Bitcoin100! If I'm understanding it right, we would include the bitcoin option on our fundraising page and donors could chose which way they would like to donate (money vs. bitcoin)?

We recently started a crowdrise page (www.crowdrise.com/northstar) which I'd be happy to feature the bitcoin option on (although to be honest I am not very tech savvy and I'm not sure we are capable of doing this through the crowdrise site). A second option would be to just include it on our fundraising page within our regular website. The site is undergoing major construction and but should be finished in 2 weeks and I would definitely have the bitcoin option included in the new format.

Let me know if you have any insight on the crowdrise page bit and hopefully we can at least get you guys featured on our regular web page soon!

Hello,

My name is Michael. I am Executive Director of Coalition Against Overmedicating Our Youth. We are a Michigan based nonprofit whose mission is to help children by determining causation of behavioral conditions through bio-assessment recommendations as well as consultations for safe medication protocols.

Recently I added a couple cryptocurrencies to our donate page (http://caooy.org/index.php/donate) and posted in a few subreddits. This took off and shortly after I was getting multiple messages requesting different coins be added; I'm still working on adding all coins that were requested. I'm very interested in making bitcoin and other altcoins a regular way for people to donate to CAOOY.

I was referred to your site by a user on reddit and was wondering how to become involved. Most of the donations coming in have been for smaller coins, and I am very interested in incorporating bitcoin at a larger capacity .

Hope to hear back soon

-Mike

My name is Jacob Martin, I live in Dallas, Texas, USA. I run a charity called Backpacks for the Homeless, that collects donations throughout the year to put together backpacks with food and necessities for the homeless folks in Dallas, Texas. We started last year and raised $500 in less than 2 weeks. With that $500 we were able to deliver dozens of backpacks full of necessities, food, and blankets to the homeless. However, there were numerous people we were not able to help.

This year we have doubled our goal to $1000, and I know we will reach that goal. I heard about Bitcoin100 listening to Andreas Antonopoulos speaking. I wanted to reach out and let you know we do accept bitcoin on our donation site. You can visit our site at www.bfth2014.com, click the donate link if you feel we are a charity that deserves a donation. With your help I want to double our goal this year to $2000. With those funds we would be able to provide over 100 backpacks, blankets and days worth of food to homeless folks here in Dallas.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

I asked, and they only started accepting Bitcoin donations recently.

Dear Dmitry,

Please allow me to introduce myself -- my name is Dr. Marco Curreli and I represent Omni Nano, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit organization devoted to nanotechnology education.  Our mission is to develop and produce high-quality, low-cost, student-centered nanotechnology curricula and educational materials suitable for high school and college students, in order to promote college and career readiness in STEM.  Please feel free to browse our website, http://omninano.org.

As a non-profit, we’re always seeking innovative ways to interact with our donors, and to make the donation process easier and more widely accessible.  To that end, we’re researching ways we can accept charitable donations in the form of bitcoins.  We’ve registered our organization with BitPay and will be updating our Donations webpage to include the bitcoin donation option soon.

I’m writing today to find out if Bitcoin 100 still offers a $1,000 Bitcoin donation to non-profits accepting Bitcoin currency.  How can Omni Nano go about receiving such a donation?

Kind regards,

- Marco.

Bitcoin100 is set up to convince charities to accept bitcoin. This charity is already accepting bitcoin, so they may not qualify. How long ago did they add the bitcoin donation option?

Folks, I was talking to the founder of BitcoinBigfoot about our problem with giving away money.  He has tons of experience with direct sales and cold calling people, and he says if we offer him an incentive of $100 per charity signup, he could get all our money given away pretty quickly.

Obviously, we can't use any of the bitcoin100 funds for the incentive, so we need to raise new money for that.  I will contribute $500.  At current exchange rates, we would need to raise $6300 to get it all donated.  Who else is in?  What are your thoughts on this plan?

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

Although your cause seems noble, Bitcoin 100 has a strict secular clause that would make us unable to donate to your endeavor. We apologize.
