Yea I dabble a bit on the Tennis but not as much as Rugby.

Barty is always a big favourite.


Rabbitohs are looking safe enough now 24-32 with 5 minutes to go.


Dont like basketball, dont like the "quarters" format for some reason.


I have Toulouse win their semi final in the Heineken Champions Cup and
a very conservative bet on Leinster. This could be a closer semi final than Toulouse's
La Rochelle are a very big team with big replacements on the bench so they will
be up for a power game, Leinster will be looking to keep the ball in play for as much
of the 80' as possible to get the big lads huffing and puffing.

Just to rub it in - a two point field goal in the last 30 seconds of the game.  The Raiders had a try disallowed five minutes earlier, so it was definitely not the finish they were hoping for after their strong start to the match.

Yea strong enough performance by the second on the league table, I didnt have a bet on
either, kicking myself as they were good odds on sportsbet.

They are close behind the Panthers with only 1 loss so far, could the title be decided
with a points difference? hence the field goal

I managed to see the second half of tonight's first game ( Storm 40 - Sharks 14 ) and the first half of the second game ( Broncos 36 - Titans 28 )



The Broncos played a much better game catching up to be 22 - 22 at half time.  I thought the Titans might come back refreshed and blitz the Broncos, but the tide had turned.

So far this round I've picked two of three games, hopefully there won't be anymore upsets tomorrow.

Looked like the Titans spent themselves in the first half, only managed 6
points in the second half, not good enough.

I have The Panthers and Eels for tomorrow, im 1 from 3 in round 8, hope it
will be 3 from 3, no upsets thank you very much.


Hopefully Toulouse do the business tomorrow too in the Heineken Champions Cup.

My picks this round are Rabbitohs, Storm, Titans, Panthers, Eels, Knights, Cowboys and Dragons.

If I'd checked the leader board before making the call above, the only one I would have changed would be the Roosters (4^th) instead of the Knights (now down to 11^th place overall).  I managed to see the first half of the Panthers' game - they played very well and had most of the possession of the ball.  All in all, not a bad choice, the hard part will be in the semis when then leading teams start facing off against one another.

I agree, there will be some tough choices to be made further on in the competition.

With my initial choices I'm 3 wins from 3 but with the Chiefs getting trounced by the
Blues 39-19 I am chasing my losses a bit, which I really hate doing.

At the start of the season, I was calling the NZ Warriors and the Tigers to win the various games, but I called the Cowboys and Dragons based on past wins where I should have called the Warriors & Tigers.

So four from eight games for the week won.

Comments about Rugby games are always welcome as is any wagers you may have placed (after all this thread is in the "Gambling Discussion" section.

@aoluain and I post most days, so we can always answer any questions you may have fairly promptly.

Thank you for the quick reply and the links guys It will take some time for me to get accustomed to the sport as I don't want to spew out bullshit on the thread, but I'll probably have some more noob questions along the way, and hopefully, in time, contribute more to the discussion.

I'm from the Balkans region Played Rugby for a short amount of time when I was in high school in a local club but for some reason fell out of it. I'll probably not be actively participating in the sport anymore, but would like to support it and watch it as much as I can.

At that point, I had no idea there were any differences XD I was just the big guy that was sent to slam into a cluster of other guys XD (Yeah, I know, not really technical lingo, but bare with me until I get my shit together). For some odd reason I am instantly drawn to anything Australia and New Zeland related, so I might start there.

Now, I got one question that you may or may not know the answer to. What kind of improvements (if any) have been made over the years concerning head trauma from the sport? I ask that because I also actively follow MMA and that is also a big question there (Sure, much less than American Football, but I know Rugby had its fair share of issues).

Head injuries in sports is a big issue regardless of the code, or the game.  In Rugby, a player can (and is) sent off for concussion injuries and can also require medical scans after a game (and can be out for a couple of weeks recuperating).

I'll have to do some digging on the nrl.com website for more information.

Well as regards players, "high tackles" are punished in Rugby Union (dont know about League)
with either a Yellow Card (10 minutes in the Sin Bin) or Red Card (Immediate sending off and
banning of further games)

I know the new competition Pro14 Rainbow Cup is trialling different rules for yellow and red
cards but thats a seperate matter and I would have to look them up again.

As regards player welfare, a player who suffers an injury is removed for HIA assessment
and is deemed to be able to carry on playing or not. If not the player is monitored in the
"Return to play protocol" and is further assessed as to whether he can play sooner or later.

So player welfare is probably top of the list of concerns for  all in Rugby and high tackles
are really punished, (when detected properly)


@TheNineClub from your earlier post you say you are in the Balkans, Romania
have a strong Rugby tradition and I think they are in the top 20 world rankings (Rugby Union)

In relation to Australia and New Zealand there is the long running comparison
between Northern and Southern Hemisphere playing styles, im not sure how
different they are these days but for sure New Zealand whenever playing draw
a lot of interest, it is their #1 sport after all.

I am in Ireland and we have a strong Rugby (union) tradition here eventhough its the 3rd or
4th most popular sport here.

Some fun facts, we have the oldest club in the world which is still in existence
and one of the oldest Rugby grounds in the world was Landsdown Road, now The Aviva Stadium.

I'm beginning to think a couple of my other pics later in the week are also going to come unraveled in much the same way.  This year has been such a skewered season with half the teams totally blitzing the other half and yet two of the top teams come together and it's a Cluster Fk!

WTF, did only half the Rabbitohs team turn up for the match? Zero, nothing,
no score of any kind registered, did they even get out of their own half?

Just watched the highlights, some finishing by Addo-Carr to bag 6 tries.
and watched the press conference with the Rabbitohs coach, he kinda
mentioned that a defeat was coming based on their last few matches
even though they won them.


Second round of the Pro14 Rainbow Cup this weekend, games starting tomorrow.

TBH I havent been watching much of this and havent bet on any games yet and there
doesnt seem to be much talk about it on news bulletins.
