I played a 4 game combo bet Scotland, France, Ireland and  the North Queensland Cowboys
in the Australian Rugby League and it was the Cowboys which let the bet down as the
first game in the combo.

I was shouting for Italy, Wales and Ireland.

Wales - yea the drama coming into the tournament did not help, now that things have been
resolved hopefully they can prepare well for the World Cup.

Italy - massive improvements made from last year IMO.

Along side the Six Nations the Under 20's games have been mirroring the senior games.
It has just finished with Ireland winning the grand slam, France second and Italy third.

I am very confident that Ireland will be very competitive for a few years and Italy are showing
signs that their feeder system seems to be working.

After three losses, I'm going to give the Eels the benefit of the doubt against the Panthers who've also suffered a similar slump in play since last year.  The Storm should rain down on the Tigers while the Titans should ride the Cowboys who've also suffered a new year slump.

Last week, the Rabbiotohs came close to winning their match and I eel this week they'll evade the Sea Eagles (should be a close match).  The Auckland Warriors have also been in good form, so I'm backing them over the Bulldogs.  The Raiders seem to be gelling and should overcome the Knights who are in the doll-drums while the Dragons should scorch the Sharks.

My Parlay should be a nice payout if it comes through.

There are a lot of questions for this round,
Can indeed the Eels turn around their season and clock up their first win? Very strange to
see them sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Backing the Eels is well worth a punt for sure,
they have to beat the Panthers.

Broncos or Dolphins - who goes top after round 4? This will be unbelievable if the Dolphins
beat the Broncos and go top but I have read that Felise Kaufusi will be missing, I dont know
if that is a massive deal though?

I'm watching a very patchy Eels Vs Pink Panthers game live (online) with the score at 8 all.  The Panthers looked very quiet being lectured by their coach whilst the Eels looked much more relaxed and confident during their half time sit down with their coach.

I'm still hopeful the Eels are going to pull ahead and win.

I hope I havent jinxed your bet...

Like most of the games of round three, the Eels Vs Panthers game came down to the wire, especially in the last fifteen minutes:




Amazingly, even though both teams have won just one game each after our rounds, the Panthers are ahead on the ladder, but as the week progresses, I'm sure that will change and they will be dragged ever closer.

Big game on - First place v Second place, Leinster v DHL Stormers, can the Stormers manage
to be the first team to beat Leinster this season in all competitions?

Personally I dont think so, I have the home favourites to won @ a not too bad price of 1.51,
but then again this bet might follow the streak im having lately, a losing one at that!!!

I've just sat down to watch the Townsville Vs Gold Coast game and the Titans have already scored a try and converted in the first five minutes.

The Battle of Brisbane was a hard fought and low points scored game with the Broncos edging ahead after the Dolphins clawed back and were ahead at one point midway through the second half.

The Broncos converter missed three of their four kicks, hence their low score. If that keeps up the Broncos will loose a game or two fo certain.

Yea I'm following the scoreboard, I picked up the Cowboys at 1.7. ^{i have the Rabbitohs at 1.63 also}

Damn, that was a close game. between the Dolphins and Broncos. Not being able to
kick points is a massive weakness.

I think I remember for example a few years back England ^{rugby union} winning a
game against I dont recall but by just kicking penalties!

Anyway in the URC yesterday Leinster remain unbeaten but my bet didnt come through
because they failed to beat the Stormers.

Three wins from five so far with the remaining three games to be played this afternoon.  The Rabbiohs won in golden point in another low scoring game which tells me both teams are fairly equally placed at the moment.  The Rabbitohs game play last week got stronger as the game went on and they capitalised on that this week.

I'm still fairly confident the remaining three teams will do well today.

Only 1 from the remaining 3 Timelord ! I didnt do any bets on todays games, I was really
happy with the wins by the Rabbitohs and Cowboys yesterday. The Sea Eagles are
actually not bad, the golden point was a killer for them, it could have been the other way too.


In the URC I only did 2 bets this weekend, the second was Ulster to win at home against
the Vodacom Bulls ^{South Africa} which they did 32 - 23. I managed to pick up odds
of 1.55 which are not bad.

Rugby Union - European Rugby Champions Cup

This weekend we will have the Round of 16 before next weekends Quarter Finals.

I'm keeping an eye on Leinster and fancy them for at least the final if not the title but
this week it was revealed that the Leinster and Irelands Talisman - Johnny Sexton
will likely miss the rest of the season due to a groin injury.

Only 3 teams unbeaten in the competition so far, Leinster, Rochelle and Toulouse.

Who am I betting on:

DHL Stormers at home to beat Harlequins
Leinster at home to beat home rivals Ulster
Rochelle to beat Gloucester
Toulouse at home to beat the Vodacom Bulls

Head to head the Roosters are out on front and I have read that the Eels are

I saw the second half tonight at the Star Casino on the Gold Coast in the Sports Bar. One table had Eels supporters while the rest of us were cheering on the Roosters. The Eels aren't doing themselves any favours with constant meaningless long passes jumping two or three players. They can pass the ball, but there's no follow through with a sprint to the try line or even making a few metres. Opportunities to sneak through gaps were also missed by the Eels.

Their two late tries were more flukes than skilled game play.


This evening the Canterbury Crusaders take on the Qld Reds (who have performed very poorly this season)

Massive win over the Raiders today, I was following the score before I went into work hoping
for more favourable odds on the Panthers but they hit the front straight away. I predict that they
wont be beaten again before the finals! (maybe the Eels will beat them again)

After 90 minutes of game play the scores were locked at 32 - 32 between the Manly Sea Eagles and the Newcastle Knights. 



Hence they scored one point each on the ladder.  Newcastle now moves to eighth on the ladder on five points (could decide the place late in the season)



That was a thrilling game of Rugby League!

(In a few minutes, the Broncos take on the Tigers)


First blood to the Dolphins! Unfortunately, the Dolphins then floundered to loose 12 - 38 while the Broncos pounded the Tigers 40 - 12.

OTOH I was able to see the entire Brumbies Vs Warratahs game which Canberra won 40 - 36 in a gutsy comeback.

sitting pretty on top spot and are currently unbeaten in 5 rounds.

In the other 2 games - what happened to the Sharks after half time when they were leading
26 - 12? The Warriors came back into the game to win, only difference between them was
a missed conversion...

and the Cowboys... losing by a field goal in the 84th minute, that was a close game.

I wasn't able to place bets on the last two games but would have definitely bet on Auckland and am split on which to bet on (as evidenced by the golden point game clench-er).

This is a very different ladder to this time last year:



Brisbane, Auckland, Sydney City and (Sydney) Manly-Warringah comprise the top four this round with the (Sydney) Penrith Panthers tieing for fourth (fifth) while Redcliffe (MBRC - to the north of Brisbane) and (Sydney) Canterbury tieing for seventh.



As with the Sea Eagles and Panthers, St George, The Knights, Sharks, Rabbitohs, Titans and Cowboys have all won two games a piece, however, their stats have them pushed far down the ladder tieing or ninth place.



As with last year, the class dunces The Eels, Raiders and Tigers should be relegated back to the New South Wales State competition.

well if I was betting on those last two games I certainly would have gone with both of
the losing teams.

In my couple of years following the NRL this is indeed a strange start. All the dominant
teams over the last 2 seasons anyway are yet to take their spots on the ladder, based on
last season its really only the Roosters who are positioned where I perceive them to be,
but the Sharks, Rabbitohs, Cowboys and Eels are floundering mid to bottom table,
it will be interesting to see how the next 5 rounds turn out and can the Broncos at least stay
on top or close to it?
