Manny said he still feel at 30+ age, so age is just a number for him, because he is so discipline, he can last in the sports.

Oldest active boxer in the history of sport is 61 years old, maybe he is trying to break that record. Grin

https://www.oldest.org/sports/professional-boxers/
1. Steve Ward (c.1956 – Present)
Oldest Age While Still Active: c.61 years old
 Years Active:  1977 – 1987; 2010 – 2017
Country of Origin:  Nottinghamshire, England, UK
 Weight Category:  Cruiserweight

It's very different now young boxers are very strong and skillful because of the science-based diet and training, Manny Pacquiao case is rare but he should not very confident on his body, the body has natural wear and tear cycle, and with his age, it could happen to him anytime Crawford is not going to be an easy fight, I hope his body is still doing great.
This will be one of the most difficult fight for Pacquiao because Crawford has all the tools to beat him.

We will soon known what will be the status as Arum himself told the boxing media about it. So by next week we will know if we have a fight or not. If yes, then I expect Crawford to be the betting favorite in the beginning just like in the Thurman fight. But the odds suddenly shift to Manny as we gets closer to the fight itself.

Pacquiao love challenges and even if Crawford have a lot of advantage of this fight for sure pacquiao have good weapon to beat him up. For sure the odds will goes to Pacquiao right now as many believe that pacquiao still can defeat him. This is exciting fight so hopefully they seal the deal and got a proper date on the fight to take place. People love to see some action especially if Pacquiao is on the ring.

I don't really think that Crawford has a lot of advantage, in respect to him, I would say he can evenly match Manny Pacquiao but I'm expecting a different story in the ring. Pacquiao hasn't lose yet after it rise from lose against Marquez and he was fighting smarter after that lose, he learn a lot so I'll still bet on him although he is quite old already.

Even if Manny fights you can tell it won't be purely for sporting reasons. He's still good but he can't be great anymore.

What's your definition of great?

Manny is a legend, he is an icon in boxing, isn't it right to call him great? And if you are referring to his previous fights, I think betting an undefeated fighter of Thurman can already be called great. How many fighters do he has to beat in order for him to be called as great?

We do have different views in regards to this matter, he always show his greatness, if the post above you refer with Manny's condition, due to aging he cant' be the same as he was before, but figthing to what he's capable is a true sign of greatness considering the same fact about his age.

Another high-paying job for both boxers in case this will push thru.
But it seems, they are already looking for the venue of this possible match.
Or maybe, still waiting for the covid vaccine to roll-out in most countries.
Because they can also get a good amount of cash via gate earnings.
Pacquiao seems not to be retiring anytime soon, but as OgNasty said, I also prefer Pac to retire and enjoy his earnings while he still can.
I really think this is the main reason we are seeing so many delays in confirming big fights, people want to watch a box match again but if they wait a few months then there could be countries in which the majority of the population is vaccinated already and they can open their doors to them and get even more money that way, so while I would like to see this fight I can see why they are taking their time as they can make even more money if they can open their doors to the public.

We dont know if this fight would be his last before he do retire.Actually there's no need to prove out more when it comes to his greatness in the career of boxing.

He had achieved those things that havent been achieved or attained by other boxers. It would be better if he do just focuses into this current job as a senator
rather than on continuing boxing but we cant blame him if he do really loves boxing.

A boxer will not retire if the body can still take it, between the body and the mind the first one that is going to surrender is the body, a boxer's motivation is always there but once the body cannot react to what the mind is saying, then that's the time he will consider retiring, so far Manny Pacquiao is doing great, between now and two years there's a lot of changes, we'll now see if Manny's body can still take it and his body can still follow what his mind is saying.

This is potentially dangerous. Even if Manny feels like his body can handle the amount of stress and punches he could take, once he reaches the age of 40-60, then that would be the time that he would feel its impact and damage.

Lots of famous boxers have been permanently incapacitated and injured due to the prolong continuation of this sport. While its monetary rewards may be considered one of the highest in terms of payment, its toll on the body too is the most in terms of risk. With that being said, I really think Manny should consider this to be his last fight.

Yes, I agree with you, Pacquiao loves this kind of challenges, a young, champion and very hungry to beat him. But the betting odds in the beginning will favor Crawford, not that it is bad for Manny, nothing wrong with being the underdog here and proving time and again that he can win a fight. And who would not like to bet on Manny as a underdog? it will really give us a good winning right?

However, as I have said before, as we gets closer to the date of the fight, chances are the odds are going to shift on Manny's favor. So we better get our bets early to enjoy the good odds if ever it starts with Manny as the underdog.

Well it depends, right now Manny has many things to do he is not only a boxer but a politician a known figure in his country so when we say that ws want to see him again at the boxing ring we should know that it is nit easy to him anymore because his focus is not in the boxing he needed to be trained and needed have a peaceful and safe environment to work with in this case maybe the match will not be this year it could be next year or next next year.

@Kasabus - Nah I don't think that Manny is trying to break the record here. George Foreman was the oldest if I'm not mistaken to win a title at age 46 and perhaps Pacquiao can get closer to that.
Well It is not Foreman Mate instead it is Hopkins that has the record of the Olders Title holder in the boxing world

 and here is it.
Quote
Bernard Hopkins set the record for being the oldest boxer to win a world championship three different times – the first was at the age of 46; then Hopkins beat his own record 2013 when he was 48; and finally Hopkins still holds the record after winning against Beibut Shumenov in 2014 at 49 years of age. 4. Dewey Bozella (c.1959 – Present)

Source : https://www.oldest.org/sports/professional-boxers/#:~:text=Bernard%20Hopkins%20set%20the%20record%20for%20being%20the,of%20age.%204.%20Dewey%20Bozella%20(c.1959%20%E2%80%93%20Present)

In any case, we have seen Manny in his last fight, and we can say that still has hat pop in his punch, even knocking down Thurman.
[/quote]
If he can continue to fight in the next 5 years , then He'll might break the record .
Quote
@coin-investor has a point as well, a fighter is only good at his last fight so we don't know what condition Manny will be if this fight push through.
Manny will wait the presidential Election in the Philippines before finally decide if he will continue fighting or will retire .

Wow, 51 years old, I thin Manny can no longer fight at that age, he has a lot of responsibility as he is also a politician and that is his focus now, he is just a part time boxer, yet he is still at his best. I really hope he will retire early as there's nothing to prove anymore.

I must be in the strange minority that doesn't care if I ever see Pacquiao fight again.  That Mayweather fight bored me to tears and made me resent both fighters.  They may be two of the best to ever do it or whatever, but I find myself more focused on whatever plate of nachos I'm eating at a random bar then on watching either of them fight.  Maybe the UFC has taken some of my interest away from watching these 140lb guys slap at each other with heavily padded hands for 10 rounds to wait on a decision, but I really really miss the way boxing used to be a long time ago when there were heavyweight champions like Mike Tyson who truly struck fear into the hearts of men.

Pacquiao's age is evident in its recent fights, he isn't as fast and aggressive as how he was during his prime. Even if I am a Pacquiao fan I think Pacquiao has to retire sometime soon and focus on Public Service. He had proven a lot in boxing and he must let new boxing prodigies take his spot, I am still yearning to see Pacquiao Vs. Ryan Garcia, it's like passing on the baton to the young boy who has a huge potential.
Its also what other fighter told Pacman, over the years yet after all 12 rounds of boxing inside the ring with Pacman, all they get are blackeye , and dislocated part of their faces, like what Bradley said it's fast and also heavy, they also said they can beat the guy and make him retire, but its the other way around, but for me, Pacman has nothing to prove in boxing, I just hope Mayweather and Pac face earlier that would be the greatest fight ever.

Pacman's legacy has been cemented already, and he is just pushing it more though by fighting champions after champions or undefeated boxers. So he has nothing to proved except his longevity in the ring and probably wanted to be the oldest welterweight champion.

Yes, him and Floyd should face when Pacman was hitting his prime, destroying everyone, including as big as Margarito. But Floyd is wise enough not to challenge him that time and waited till Pacman lost already and started to decline.

I believe if Pacman has no injury that time he can give Floyd a good fight, it was a unanimous win by Floyd but Pacman revealed after the fight that his shoulder was injured so he couldn't give his best, for me a rematch would end the rivals on who is better between the two, maybe some are already convinced but others are still doubting, so we deserved a 2nd fight.

Yeah I think it’ll be the fight of the year since the last Pacquiao fight plus it’s a huge paycheck whether they win or lose. Hopefully Manny Pacquiao still has time for boxing because his busy schedule of being a Senator made him look like his priorities now are different but I’d bet on Pacquiao over Crawford still.

He is already a senator when he fought Thurman and he won, so we know he can effectively manage his team being a senator and still give a good fight. That $40 million maybe huge but Pacquiao fight have generated more than that, so promoter should accept the demand as for sure they'll generate a bigger revenue since these two boxers are the best now.

As for pound for pound ranking in https://www.worldboxingnews.net/pound-for-pound-boxing-rankings/

Manny is ranked number 7 while Terrence is at number 6.

This ranking is for 2020, and since Pacquiao did not have a fight he falls in the number 7 but in terms of ticket sales and pay per view sales Manny has an edge on some of the fighters here, I'm surprised that Erol Spence is on top way ahead of Crawford, if Manny pulls up a win he will likely end in the top 3, or even take the number one spot.

In some of the articles I read, Crawford is rank number 1, I guess that was already outdated, or maybe it's the correct information. In terms of selling the fight, Manny can always sell the fight because he is a superstar in boxing, everyone knows him and he also has a huge fans all over the world, so in any venue, it's guaranteed that it will generate money.

Wait, so what you are saying is that since Manny did not had any fights for 2020, that affected his ranking? I am quite confused, so you mean to say that one's activity or activeness in the sport would also be a factor if you are ahead in the rankings? So you got to be a very busy fighter having many fights and having many fights will positively increase your chances on getting to the top spot? So all Manny needs to do is to have boxing matches then if that is the case. But I guess that also depends on many factors again.

It's not the number of fights only, it's winning fights that will make a fighter increase his ranking. Manny once in the number 1, he dropped  down as new boxers have emerge and this ranking is just based on the present ranking but Manny's ranking is all time.

I read somewhere, like the Manny vs Thurman fight, Thurman called himself "One Time", but forget that Manny is "All Time", so Manny is still better.

Let's not go on the pound for pound list, I think the better argument is on the welterweight division itself.

Here are the lists of the champion in that weight division (147 lbs).
Spence - WBC/IBF
Crawford - WBO
Pacquiao - WBA (although there is a "regular" champion and then the interim belt holder)

So in terms of Crawford vs Pacquiao fight this is champion vs champion.

Wow, 51 years old, I thin Manny can no longer fight at that age, he has a lot of responsibility as he is also a politician and that is his focus now, he is just a part time boxer, yet he is still at his best. I really hope he will retire early as there's nothing to prove anymore.
That's why I believe and mentioned that he is only waiting for the presidential election in 2022 May In the philippines and for sure after that He'll Get the decision.
Either to continue Boxing or now .
Because it is one thing that sure now is he will take the higher position , If President or Vice yet that will declare His future.
Hope that he will have at least 3-4 box first before that decision making because i have plenty of capital to Bet for him and win  Grin
