It is because of this I think that in the case Usyk beats Joshua, which is the most likely scenario, Usyk will not go for the fight against Fury immediately, he needs more experience and to refine his technique even more if he wants to beat Fury, the difference in their size is significant and Fury will use it to his full advantage, now even if Usyk took that time there is no guarantee he will beat Fury, but at least I think his chances will improve slightly, so there is a chance that is the path he will follow.
You mean even more delays in the heavyweight division? Probably right. It seems like we'll never get the fighters in their prime, fighting against other in their prime fighters. I can see Fury retiring before these fights are even made, Joshua collecting more losses, and Usyk becoming the dominant champ without really being challenged by the best. Wilder likely probably goes back to fighting inside America against other American fighters. Whyte, Delboy, and Parker all retire, and the division then becomes irrelevant, and not worth watching for a long time.

We got spoiled with the Fury, and Wilder fight because at least we got a big fight. Despite it largely being utter dominance in favour of Fury.

Unfortunately yes, this is what I think it could happen on the heavyweight division, as a fan of boxing I want to see big fights right away but I need to be realistic, it is not on the best interest of Usyk to take on Fury right away, it is better for him to gain more weight and adapt himself to the division while he waits for Fury to get older so his skills diminish, it is boring and it is not what we want but I think it is exactly what a promoter could do.

That will take 2 to 3 years and many things can happen in a span of a year, if you are a champion and want to establish your legacy, you'll go for fights that will build your legacy, Usyk wants Fury right away because beating Fury at his peak will give him a shot to greatness beating an old Fury will get him nowhere so Usyk wants Fury after Joshua, and it could happen if he beats Joshua.

As both Fury and Usyk are in their best forms right now, if I were them, I would force event to have a fight. The winner will get all 4 major belts and will be best of the best in heavyweights. Waiting means loosing chances to become the one with all belts. With current pandemic situation, as coin-investor said, it will take years before these two will meet.

As I understand, Fury has not contract obligatory to fight anyone. But Usyk must either prepare for Fury and try to get all the belts and face financial consequences for not having a rematch with Joshua. Or put the idea of obtaining all 4 belts on a higher shelve.

Usyk has to first deal with the rematch with Joshua, I doubt Joshua will accept some money to step aside as if he did then most likely he will never receive another chance to win a title, so it is all or nothing for Joshua when he fights against Usyk again, however I think that taking into account what we saw it is almost a given Usyk will win the rematch, so what comes next is the biggest question. And while I would like the fight between Fury and Usyk to happen right away, we know that promoters will get in the way.

What surprises me is that majority of the fight fans still think that Anthony Joshua could win the rematch against Usyk and with the hype revolving the rematch, i doubt Anthony Joshua would accept a big payment and step aside.

The biggest problem we need to get rid in boxing is, mandatory rematch clause for one sided beating  Cheesy. My prediction is still Oleksandr Usyk winning the rematch and then meeting Tyson Fury for a mega showdown.

For Usyk, it's better for him to give Joshua the rematch as beating him twice will not make people doubt about his real talent in boxing, it will also boost his ranking among the best heavyweights in the world, and no other opportunity for him after winning in a rematch but to fight with Fury who is currently the number 1 in the world. Then probably loser vs loser or (Joshua vs Wilder) too.  Smiley

You make a point about Usyk giving Joshua a rematch but I don't see him beating Joshua in the second fight and I don't what you use to predict Usyk winning the rematch because for the record he won by the unanimous decision, not by KO.
Having said that, Joshua also needs to change the habit of loose his first fight with the opponent and later defeating the person in the rematch because it making it look like he's selling the first fight.

Seeing it from that point of view, the one who has the most pressure is Usyk, because the others do not need to show much, but I have seen that Usyk is more hungry to win than to be the best, to show the world that he cannot leave without facing the best , it is very easy to pretend that you can win everything without having faced the best, that is like having a title with almost no effort, which does not have much relevance, well that is how I see it and I think any fighter too . This reminds me of Pacquiao's fight with Myweather, when after the match Myweather what he did was run away from the Filipino, he told him that he didn't want any more revenge, which seemed to me to make him afraid of a possible second match.

Well that's not surprising given everybody saw the last fight. Unless AJ does something vastly different or just goes all out for a KO I think the exact same result will happen.

According to Eddie Hearn it seems AJ would want 15 million to step aside and Dillian Whyte 5 million:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/17382164/anthony-joshua-dillian-whyte-tyson-fury-fight-usyk/

Can't see that happening. Makes much more sense to me for for AJ to just do the rematch with Usyk then the winner fights Fury (assuming Whyte doesn't win which almost certainly isn't going to happen). Even if AJ loses I'm sure the Fury/AJ fight would still be huge.

It was Fury who recently said "Usyk will smash him. Never mind beating him on points - he'd knock him out"  Grin

Quite clearly Fury does not rate Joshua at all in the rematch whenever that might take place. If Joshua loses to Usyk again there would be no real need for Fury to enter the ring with Joshua because Fury would have nothing to prove to anyone whereas Joshua would be hoping to cause a major upset.

If however Joshua beats Usyk (which is highly unlikely in my opinion) then he would be in pole position for a blockbuster pay day unification fight against Fury because there would be a public demand for it. The matter of one fighter holding all the belts is too good an opportunity for broadcasters to miss out on. In my opinion Usyk will beat Joshua then go on to have a unification fight against Fury. In the end, Fury will be undisputed unified heavyweight champion.

Total Votes: 24
Joshua: 6
Usyk: 18
Draw: 0

Not many here in the forum think Joshua will be able to beat Usyk in the rematch. As of now the poll shows 75% of the votes are for Usyk to win and only 25% so far believe Joshua will win.

~

That would be difficult to accept for the champion as most of the time that contract clause is there to protect him in the case of a defeat, however there are many ways in which something like this could be implemented, for example I think that if a fight ends up with more than 8 points of difference this will indicate one boxer dominated most of the fight or there were several good punches that sent the champion to the floor indicating a clear superiority by the challenger, however I am not so sure Usyk would be opposed to the rematch as this will give him more time to adapt to the HW division before his match with Fury.

It starting to look like this fight is going to be either postponed for a long, long period or wont happen at all. As Usyk wanted it to be held in Ukraine and it would be fair towards him.

There was sort of information, that they would fight in the middle of May. This date is 100% not going to be a good time for a fight. Usyk currently lives in Kiev. I am sure that now his is busy thinking about this fight.

Make boxing, not war !

And after so much speculation about who is Joshua going to pick up as his new trainer (assuming this fight will happen), it seems that he elevated his assistant trainer to full trainer.

Quote
“I’m working with Angel Fernandez right now,” Joshua told Behind the Gloves. “He’s been in my camp for the last three years, anyway. He’s been in the last three world championships.”

Asked if Fernandez was now his “main” trainer, Joshua responded, “Yeah, man.”

https://www.boxingscene.com/anthony-joshua-says-assistant-angel-fernandez-now-assuming-head-training-duties--164592

So no high caliber US trainer for him, at least he will be working someone familiar so there will be transition whatsoever on his part.

Even though Usyk won the last fight the ball is probably still in AJ's corner as usually the rematch clause is favoured to the ex-champ who dictate the initial contract so it'll likely be in the country Hearn and AJ want it in. Obviously Ukraine is a no go right now and for the foreseeable future so it'll either be in England or in Dubai or wherever they get a lot of money from. It's an interesting situation with Usyk. Will he turn down the fight and maybe even vacate the belts? As much as I respect Usyk and his choices AJ can't wait around forever and if they don't agree to a fight date the deadline for the rematch will probably expire.

Boxing is becoming like football where they just take the easy excuse out and start firing their coaches when it's themselves to blame.

I'm not familiar with football, but yeah I do agree that those boxers who loses high level fights or usually the favorite to win it and then was upset blames everyone in his corner except himself.

We've seen that to Deontay Wilder when he lost to Fury or Ryan Garcia who has fight recently and has been doing good with Reynoso but decided to switch things up win Goosen. When even Canelo says that Ryan doesn't give his 100% in training and obviously he is the one to blame when he almost lost to Campbell, getting knock down for the first time in his career.

Agree. I think AJ should start looking for a new opponent and dont waste time. Usyk has joined civil defense and is protecting his country. It will take a lot of time before war ends, he gets some rest (mentally more than physically), then I think he will help to rebuilt city or do some volunteer work and return to training. As well as it will take time to settle all organizational matters and etc. It will take years before this rematch might happen.

I have thought of what the outcome will be if things do not go well for Usyk during this war as he went to defend his country. I do not wish him any harm but people do die in wars. War is not a right time to guaranty safety or anyone. What if he dies in the war? AJ better set his mind on getting someone else to fight so he can keep himself in shape. Like you said no one knows when this senseless Putin madness will stop.

Yeah, he should look for other options now, he need to be active and not wait for Usyk to be available. And so far Eddie Hearn has name four boxers that can potentially replace Usyk.

(1) Deontay Wilder and (2) Luis Ortiz, (3) Otto Wallin, (4) Joe Joyce

But we will see who will be the final pick: (https://www.givemesport.com/87984648-anthony-joshua-next-fight-eddie-hearn-four-potential-opponents-joyce-ortiz-wallin-wilder)
