More nonces doesn't mean a better chip. More diff-1 nonces sure, but the actual nonce count must be scaled against the share value.

More difficulty archieved from a nonce is a quality benchmark, which can not be controlled by chip.

Can BM1397 filter a nonce in terms of difficulty inside its chip operation?

As far as I know, Intel will only build the ASIC chips themselves, but no sticks / pods / other formats of mining gear.

And have you considered a 'mining card' with PCIe connection? I think that might be a pretty cool idea. Especially if it's not too many chips, most desktop PCs should have enough free PCIe slots, enough headroom on the PSU under normal conditions, and the cooling solution would obviously be automatically taken care of, as well.

I see availability and price of suited USB hubs (and extra PSU) as a big entry hurdle to stick mining, so being able to use what you already have (the PSU built into your desktop tower) would be great.

Water cooling would probably not be required; a passive heatsink and the airflow of the case could be enough. But sure; especially if you already have a watercooling loop, adding one more component is very little overhead. Meanwhile if you were to setup a whole new watercooling loop for a bunch of stick miners, the 'overhead' in price is much higher.

The chip doesn't need to be redesigned, no. The Compac F actually has an FTDI chip on it which handles the USB communication with the host and sends commands and data to the BM1397 over SPI or I2C, if I'm not mistaken. So the FTDI chip would need to be replaced by a PCIe chip. If there are driver issues, one could just pull power from the PCIe socket (I believe up to 60W is fine) and benefit from the PSU and cooling that's already set up within the chassis, but route out a USB connection through the back.
As the card's back panel would otherwise have no I/O, it would be possible to add a single USB port where you plug in a short USB cable that goes into a nearby rear-IO-USB port.

LOL - BFL's PCI-e monarch was a failure. Reinventing that is a really bad idea.

Among other reasons, having to run a full desktop PC to mine is way overkill and a waste.
People then run games/browsers/porn/whatever on the desktop and wonder why the miner response is crap.

Well, I finally get my Solo Mining setup working. I put a 120mm fan in front of the Compact F and now its very cool (about 42°C). Didn't thought that would affect cooling that much. Without cooling at 200Mhz it's to hot to even touch the heatsink. Now it's running at 400Mhz. Maybe I go a little bit higher the next days.

But now I've found another problem with my setup. the latency to kanopool is quite high. As I'm from Germany, I use the server in the Netherlands. So I started some ping tests:

Hi all.
I'm extremely new to this and need some help.
I just purchased a Compac F, Raspberry Pi 4B, and a Wavlink Super Speed Powered USB 3.0 HUB.
I can't get the miner working with the Raspberry Pi.
I installed the latest Raspberry Pi 32 bit software and followed the instructions here for loading CGMINER.
I had the Compac F plugged into the USB Hub, and the USB Hub plugged into the blue USB port on the Raspberry Pi.
It wasn't seeing the Compac F. I get the error "No devices detected!", "Waiting for USB hot plug devices or press q to quit".
I then tried plugging it into all 4 USB Hubs, and it was never detected.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the 32 bit software, and that didn't resolve the issue.
I then loaded the 64 bit software, and that didn't resolve the issue.
I know the USB Hub and Miner are working, as I got them working on my MacBook Pro using Terminal.
Although I do get some GSF usb failures when running on the Mac at higher frequencies.
Please help.

Try running your command string starting with sudo. Normal install does not let you run without it. Somewhere in this thread is info on how to run a as normal user that will not require the sudo prefix.

I don't think the Bitcoin version is the reason here. There have been threads about solo mining against Bitcoin Core directly; here's someone who managed to do it with the exact same BM1397 Compac Fs!

Everyone on this post was so helpful I wanted to reach back out and let you know my solution which is subject to change by any other good advice I receive here.

I went out and bought a raspberry pi 4 with 8gigs and then bought the Argon One M.2 case that holds a SSD drive.  I bought the 1TB drive from Samsung.  Its a really neat tiny but powerful setup.  Then, I bought myself a Newpac USB miner based on the BM1387 chip.  Its running ubuntu.

I really had to do a lot of trial and error to get this all to work right.  I really like BFGMiner, but it will not work with the new Newpacs.  There was some posts about a year ago from @luke-jr about getting it supported but it doesn't have it yet.  The great features of BFGMiner from my point of view are the ability to use it as a stratum proxy for other miners as well as its ability to solo mine against the bitcoind higher versions.  But it just doesn't support the miner I use.

That's where cgminer comes in.  Cgminer is the only miner that supports the Newpac based on BM1387.  But, cgminer will not work for GBT solo mining against modern versions of bidcoind greater than 0.19.

So what I ended up doing is running my bfgminer as a stratum proxy and then run my cgminer with stratum+tcp and point it to the bfgminer.  Bingo works!

So that's my ugly setup!   I hope luke-jr reads this and decides to spend some time with the newpac drivers.

I measured with an IR thermometer gun on the backside of the Compac F where the chip is soldered. Maybe the Chip itself will be a little higher...

It doesn't.  They just get tuned to the best the chips will do.

Sometimes adjusting voltages or adding cooling will improve things.  But sometimes the chip can only do the best it can do.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement voltage adjustment screw for one of these?  I was messing with the one unit that has given me troubles and broke it.  Not sure what I did but was having troubles with adjusting it so I grabbed a needle nose and well broke it.  I am comfortable soldering a new one on or looking for someone local to do it.  I just need to purchase a new one and I have no idea how to look it up.

I think it's an SMD potentiometer. But you have to know the resistor value...
