Although my prediction goes wrong most of the time on football matches, but it went average on both Superbru and odds-based pool in the first round. The only mistake I made by picking Benfica on my parlay bet on a sportsbook. Didn't expect that Benfica would lose against Salzburg.

- Some users marked matches and selected points but didn't select the "Stake" tickbox. We still count them.

So what do you guys think of Pot B format? Was it too difficult? Improvements?

I feel like only very few users didn't understand the rules so I think we don't need to fix the form.

I saw a variety of tactics but it should be noted that different tactics bring results reliant on actual match performances. Largely, the first match day gave predictable results, so safe tactics bring points, risky ones do not. Some highlights from MD1:

• The best performers only doubled their stake and a bit in a round where favourites dominated.
• The pool of 50 displayed a tendency for odds of below 2/1.
• Unsurprisingly, the biggest favourites also attracted the fewest players: Real Madrid-RS Belgrade (7) and Barcelona-Antwerp ( 8 ).
• Arsenal's better value odds didn't attract people, either, with only 7 staking on this game.
• AC Milan - Newcastle, despite tight odds, attracted 22 players.
• PSG-BVB was the most popular match, with 25 players staking. Interestingly, the majority of stakers (13) thought BVB would win. This was the pool's favourite pick for an upset.
  
• Only 23 users ended up with more than 10 points.

Also, to try respond to posts I didn't before (sorry guys, not ignoring you at all).

@Trofo: Initially I really wanted to do this the way you suggested. A bankroll, that you can grow, winnings can be staked. This is the proper and chaotic way, but it's a nightmare because of form limitations (I have to check 50 players each with different bankroll to see nobody overstaked haha). But we'll keep experimenting!

@cryptofrka: Red card rescinded. Your total now correct. I liked your comment ex-forum about free forms. Play any "market", any combination, even parlaying outcomes. Again, limited by form functionality... and we also try not to become a Google form sportsbook haha.

Yeah kinda expected PSV to score as well but I guess Arsenal was pretty good yesterday

I didn't see PSV scoring yesterday at all, since Arteta have came down back to his senses, it's been a solid chemistry defensively with Saliba and Gabriel pairing like most of last season, unlike having Ben White as CB and Thomas Partey as Right back.


PSV did have their own chances to so considering a goal might not have been because of any defensive frailties.

As usual, I started off the season in the middle of the pack for the first round, I didn't this much amount of draws, so It was mostly a win or loss pick for me, but it's still a bit of play here.

Honestly, I'm happy to be in such a race.Although I didn't know exactly what I was going to do at first, I quickly decided on the matches I was going to play.I realized that I was rash in some of them, but by the time I realized it, it was too late.Fortunately, the first match day is behind us and I have at least experienced exactly what I can do.I think I will proceed in a more tactical way from now on.I just realized that I can do better instead of putting all 10 points in matches one by one

So what do you guys think of Pot B format? Was it too difficult? Improvements?

Obviously it's harder to predict the score on Superbru, but it seems easier to bet on sides on Google form.
Will double chance, boths score or TG over/under options be added to this in the future or will we just continue to play the "stake" points given to the results?

Congratulations guys, a good start is always important for every race. I finished first too, but from the bottom, and I was awarded a wooden spoon for finishing GW1 in 52/52 I made some wild choices and have learnt some little lessons I believe will help me get better result in the next GW. I know this poor result from this week will affect me, but something can happen in just one GW.

Over 80% of users filled in the sheets without mistakes. Pretty good eh?

But hey, the first match day is like a warm-up, right? Now that you've tested the waters, you can be the tactical mastermind in the next matches. Remember, it's all about strategy! No need to put all your eggs in one basket – that's so cheesy, even for a rookie like me!!!😄🎲.
I was also quite hesitant when making my selections, which led to me losing a lot of points, especially in the Inter and Sevilla match. I went against my gut feeling after initially predicting the correct score of 1:1. This ended up costing me three brain cells too! 😄

Congratulations really for this nice opinion.   Making only score prediction can be boring after a point. We can enjoy the pool more excitingly by taking risks here. Maybe we could see a Pot B weighted pool next season. When we come back to the topic of taking risks I'm feeling myself like a fool because of closing the first week by 0 points.

Luckily, work will decrease after group stage because we'll have less matches.

Interesting observations.

My conclusion of our first round basically boils down to:

We should remember we have 52 people participating in Pool B (odds prediction) while we've only 10 prize spots. So, only 20% of people will win and as a participant, we need to be a Top 20% participant to win some prize here.
People submitting safe bets (like I did, where I made 12.2 points) might result in a positive balance overally but it's not enough to be Top 20% in the end (for claiming a prize spot). Simply because being a bit better than average is not enough to get a Top 20% result. It is very unlikely that 80% of all participants will end up having an average of 10 points or less per round.

So, my conclusion is simple: for getting a Top 20% result, I'm anticipating, a participant may need around at least x1.4 per round to get a Top 20% position and claim a prize spot.
Not sure about general numbers since like you've said, lots of favorites won and therefore, many people made good points by backing favorites but for our next round, numbers might change in case of upsets.

The funny thing to me I always wonder with big casinos, they rarely do this kind of special events. Fortunejack used to do Premier League games, and Sportsbet through this forum but I can't think of anyone else right? It takes fans to do stuff I guess

Personally I like this format. It's in between Superbru and BSFL level of critical thinking, but without need to invest time which is the major problem I think we all agree. I complain sometimes too much to do with all the pools but I think this Pot B thing actually is the fastest thing to do because odds are literally there, nothing else to check since you are betting on nothing but odds.

I think we really need to appreciate every season hilarious, Cro2, jeremypwr and buway, work hard to look for sponsors to give us a lot of fun and chance to win prizes just for being here. Literally, without these pools, I bet and lose money or I win. But the pools, prizes, I almost guarantee that I walk away with something, especially freebet from predictions actually

I forgot to make my picks for the second round of the midweek fixtures.  :/  I wanted to do it last minute before the matches start but got a bit busy irl.  If I make my picks and not lock them, does Superbru take those picks and locks by itself?  I prolly might start doing that.  Kicking myself right now.

Edit:  Looking at the scores and thinking what I would've predicted, I don't think it would've made a huge difference.  Lolol. 

Yes, Superbru itself locks your forecast as soon as the game starts. I almost never press Lock and all my predictions work. By the way, I see that you received a point for Napoli’s victory - you see, even without making a prediction, you received a certain number of points since Superbru counts the unmade prediction as the pick of a favorite.
But in any case, it is better to make predictions in advance and not press Lock - if you change your mind, you can change them, and if you forget, at least your deliberate picks will remain.

You have 10 default picks and if tokeweed did not put in result for any game yesterday, that means 2 left.

No need to lock your picks ever, unless you want to check what others chose before the deadline. When you lock it you can check those results and maybe use it for betting. Like I am doing sometimes to check if my choosen outcome is the one most people in the pool agree with.

Yup at least Superbru gave me a little bit of points to work with for the next round of matches.  And I think I'm at around 19 out of 50 in the leaderboard?  So not actually that bad for missing a day of matches.

It's much more functional than my draft version. I think we should just work to simplify if possible, before introducing (or thinking of) new functionality. I like it personally, great job!

It's definitely a possibility. There are pros and cons:

Pros

• Much more variety of markets
• More diverse results and tactics

Cons

• Each additional market creates a layer of manual verification, multiplied by # of players, increasing the risk of error
• typical over/under, BTTS odds have a much narrower odds range than 1x2, so points difference would be very small

Many, many seasons ago I played on indie fantasy that resembled classic FPL, but included weighted bonus, which was inverse to the cost of the player. e.g. Haaland scoring a goal is worth only the basic points, while Solanke scoring a goal is worth basic point with a higher multiplier.

I imagine a fairer prediction system that mixes Superbru classic system of base points for scores, but with a weighted multiplier based on likelihood of the predicted score. And you can even add layers of risk (pick a score, pick a scorer, pick an assist, or pick the route to the outcome).

I'm a huge fan of rewarding risk in all kinds of games, sportsbetting or even just gaming in general =)

You think like I do. Guaranteeing to be in top 10 is not good enough -- you'll likely fall to 15th with nothing. I think it's wise to aim for big points in games you're confident in (BVB was that risk for me) and then hedging with others. It worked for vd309 for sure, now he has to repeat is. cryptofrka also won big. Generally non-sustainable over 40 games but we have only 10 Matchdays in UCL so you need to aim for variance, not consistency. Is how I feel!

So if the majority agrees with your choice, do you make this bet or, on the contrary, the opposite? In my opinion, if the majority chooses some outcome, then there is a high probability that the cash flow has already indecently reduced the odds for this outcome, so it is worth making the opposite choice.

Not exactly, I just use them as data input. For instance I like both to score on a game where odds are quite high for that market, maybe around 2. And I am not sure if I am viewing the game wrong or bookies.

Then I lock my pick and check what others picked. If everyone went for results like 2:1 or 1:2 or scoring draws, it is perfect confirmation of my decision and I place the bet. If I see a few of 0:0 picks I either drop the game or maybe lower the stake. All depends on who is making the picks as well as well a bunch of other parameters, like how certain I was in outcome to begin with.

I didn’t think about this option (although I remember that you are a BTTS specialist). In this case, the opinion of other betters can really be the basis for checking your conclusions, I agree.

Good multi bet. It’s a pity that Benfica’s red card in the early minutes left no chance. Well, to be fair, Bellingham's winning goal in the 95th minute was a real salvation for everyone who bet on Real Madrid. After a long time Liverpool aren't in the Champions League. I'm wondering what you are thinking about this topic. It's like a warm-up, but it's my first experience. When the tactical odds are set, I suggest you wait another week to test myself
In this competition a bit of strategy is important, but it seems to me that you have to like to take risks as well. Sometimes it's better to put them one by one, especially when we see that the matches are with close opponents
I also lost a lot of points with Inter and Sevilla, we probably took these preferences based on Sevilla's European performance and Inter's league performance, but they failed us.
