Not sure about secret but I would refrain from boasting especially.  To tell or discuss with others who either bet regularly or might choose to if they feel like is normal.  Its probably part of why betting is becoming so popular via sports betting or similar games where people play anyway and a few will bet on the outcome.   I dont see it needs to be a secret, be sensible with your money only spend the spare left over after paying your bills, do that and you are doing nothing wrong imo.

Choose where and to whom it should be shared. Betting is a fun thing and some people like the idea of other individuals sharing their bets, especially in sports when both parties watch the same game.
Like last month there was this neighbor who asked me if I made a bet on a very popular boxing game where titles are on the line. I was not shocked when he asked me that because we had been sharing our speculations and bets about the fight. It was a fun talk that ended with how much the odds are.
So sometimes I do believe sharing it would make a good discussion with someone else as long as both of you are on the same wavelength. With friends usually, I doubt it works with the family.

It still depends on the person himself whether he wants to disclose his gambling habits to other people. Because apparently, not every place is a safe place for gamblers. There are still discrimination and stereotypes whether we like it or not. And these might be a factor why some are still hiding the skeletons in their closets. Perhaps they don't feel safe or comfortable with the idea of other people knowing their hobby or past time because they might be judged without knowing the whole context first or knowing them in depth. He told me a story about himself that he don't want people to know that he has some money that he won from doing gambling that's why he decided to always show to people that he always lose his money on casinos where the fact is he is bagging cash in his account from doing gambling. He told me that he hates people coming to him because of his money and asking some of it. It is common these days, for those people that are afraid to be known that they're a gambler then they're keeping it as a secret. I think keeping it a secret from partner is sadly understandable also. You might sometimes met a stranger who understands it but usually it doesn't happen. You would really get discriminated because even family members or relatives arent really that exempted when it comes to those people who would really be that in concern of your condition and some of them would really be doing the opposite on which you havent been able to anticipate nor expect for them to do so.This is why i dont really like to say up things in regarding my problem whether in related with gambling or with those typical problems that we do have in life.
