A true investor does not mean that Bitcoin can never be sold or that Bitcoin must be held in all situations. A good investor will rather know in advance why he is buying Bitcoin or for how many years he will keep it and if necessary, what percentage he can sell or when to change the plan based on his financial situation.

I don't know what you are trying to drive at but I want you to know that before you start investing in Bitcoin you must have known that the money that is needed to invest in Bitcoin is not money meant for our expenses but rather your discretionary income which is why you don't have to touch your invetsment. The point we should be talking about touching our investment or selling some part of it, is when an investor must have gotten to their overaccumulation stage

It seems like he's portraying trading here for mentioning about what percentage he can able to sell.  But he will not provably do that if aside for building up their portfolio, they also pay attention to build their emergency funds. If he used his discretionary funds for investment for sure he won't say those things here.

Nothing is preventing them to sell their Bitcoin, but make sure they didn't made it because either they panic when market collapsed, desperate to liquidate because they lose their patience then think about Bitcoin will not going to pump.

Holding Bitcoin for many years is challenging, but if they execute it well together with doing discipline, there's a chance that same with past holders they also get great profits to.

Where do you stand; investor , hodler or retail trader?

Generally speaking,  I believe people that are looking to sell are either long term hodlers and just taking out some of their "partial profits" 📈 or disgruntled investor's that aren't happy with Bitcoins performance or were promised to see their stash value grow 1000X like those posts we see on the socials of invest $100 and get back $10 000 in 2weeks  Tongue

It's not a good practice for a long term investor to take partial profit when he hasn't reached his bitcoin target because that will delay him from achieving his bitcoin goal at the right time and you know what that means. The longer the timeframe, the higher the price of Bitcoin overtime.
You mean you would seat on your hands waiting for the unknown just to get 100% profits??

You know the bitcoin culture of "when lambo" of which people don't say it much these days ..but that when lambo is simply a translation of when your stash value grows enough, you take your partial profits out  Cheesy

Secondly, tapping partial profit can make you lose focus on keeping your bitcoin accumulation ongoing because after taking little profit, you will be tempted to sell again and before you know it, you might deviate from a long term investor into a trader because before you know it you will start looking for how to time the market to buy cheaper. This is why we must be careful with whatever, decisions that we are making as a Bitcoin long term investor. Just keep on buying and forget about profit because that's is the last part of it.

When you put profit in your mind, you will become a trader because you have a trader mindset.
But the pattials strategy of selling some of the bitcoin stash is what professionals are doing,  look at companies like Strategy that are always selling..this tells you that you don't want to just watch and do nothing, by the way using this approach is maximizing on your profits and this is also a skill !!

I guess what he meant by percentage is the portion one can sell when the investment is at overaccumulation stage but if that's not what he meant then he's wrong cause before an investor would think of withdrawal the person must have held long enough to get to overaccumulation before considering withdrawing some portions.
Someone can hold forever, it must be sold someday but the goal is reach overaccumulation before thinkng of that, moreover everyone have their reason for holding Bitcoin but long-term should be the priority and time of withdrawal after overaccumulation differs.

The point we should be talking about touching our investment or selling some part of it, is when an investor must have gotten to their overaccumulation stage
The money invested in Bitcoin should not be money to meet the needs. Because if a person invests in Bitcoin  from the money of her   needs , it may affect the money to meet the needs. If you are stuck in it  you risk losing the purpose of long-term investment and selling at a loss. Therefore before investing, it is more reasonable to consider your necessary financial obligations and invest from that money. No specific amount or percentage of investment in Bitcoin can be determined for everyone. Some people's surplus income may be high. Some may have very little. As a result, the amount of investment should be such that the remaining money after meeting the necessary expenses. And if an unexpected situation arises in the future, you do not have to rely on selling the investment. A certain amount of Bitcoin may seem sufficient to one investor to meet his long-term goals. Another may want to save for a longer period. Therefore when to sell a part of the investment will depend on the person's financial goals and long-term plans. Selling just because the price has increased or selling out of fear of a temporary decline can both be inconsistent with long-term plans.

If you bring up the example of MicroStrategy with the investors' situation here, it will prove the opposite.

Do you know why they sell Bitcoin? Because they are corporations. They have shareholders, they have debt payments, they have to pay accounts every three months. They have an obligation to manage their balance sheets. Do you have any of these? Do you have to give quarterly reports to anyone? So why are you making their obligation your strategy?

Even the fact that they sell is half true. The fact is that they buy much more than they sell. But you only highlighted the selling part, and suppressed the buying part.

I don't think an investor who changes plans based on financial situation is incompetent in my opinion and probably someone who doesn't strictly follows their plan. Already having the mindset that you can possibly sell during hard times already speaks so much about you that you can't resist pressure and you are likely not to survive that long out there. Real investors are those that are able to withstand pressure because the real test is during times of difficulty, if you can hold on tight and not change minds halfway, you're more than halfway to achieving your long term goals.

When you invest with a target price and with a plan of selling once faced with any difficulty, it shows that you invest without any proper plan of holding unto your Bitcoin investment, because emergency or troubles will surely come in your investment journey, but what will aid your holding ability is the measures in place like your back up funds to protect your Bitcoin  investment, which will stop you from selling it premature.

It's very important that all bitcoin investors prepare for the bad days, because if they are well prepared by having their back up funds in place, difficult will never force you to sell when you never wanted to.

This is not a strategy, we will sell whenever we feel like it. If we decide to sell by "feeling like it", then it is not an investment, but a trade. In fact, many people decide by "feeling like it", sell at the bottom of the market out of fear, and buy at the top out of greed.
That's right. Because if they were investing, they certainly wouldn't have any intention or goal in that context.
I think those who sell certainly have something they need to achieve, such as a need that leaves no other option but to sell.
Therefore, we must be very careful about the issue of needs and satisfaction. This distinction should serve as a foundation for avoiding losses in our actions.

That's a very dumb excuse for any person to make. If person have what they need to achieve then what is stopping them from saving emergency funds rather than to be putting all their money into ongoingly buying bitcoin and later selling when needs come. An investor is not supposed to see emergency funds as an optional something, it is very important because expenses that you cannot neglect can rise up and when person set aside emergency funds, the person will be able to do that expenses and won't have to touch their bitcoin.

And also emergency funds should not be saved in bitcoin, preferably it should be saved in that your local currency so that you can sharply be able to make use of the money at the time you need it.
Having an emergency funds is very important for long term holding of bitcoin because without an investor being able to set up an emergency funds they may not be able to hold bitcoin for a long time. It won't make sense for someone to put all their money into bitcoin only to sell at a loss as a result of unexpected needs arising or they have invested more the money they can afford to.
Savings emergency funds in bitcoin isn't a good idea because the price of bitcoin isn't stable and an emergency can occur during bear season and the person may end up selling at loss. So the best thing is to save emergency funds in local currency or were they can easily be accessible.
It usually takes 1 year, and in some cases 2 years, to build an emergency fund. If people focus on emergency funds instead of investing all this time, it seems like they are facing a big loss in solving one problem while facing another. Two things can be done at the same time. A part of discretionary income can be used for investments and another part for emergency funds, personal discretion. But the individual has to decide with common sense what proportion to divide it at what level.

If we focus on both investments and emergency funds at the same time, then maybe after 2 years we will have emergency funds and Bitcoin. The one who waited will only have emergency funds.

A true investor does not mean that Bitcoin can never be sold or that Bitcoin must be held in all situations. A good investor will rather know in advance why he is buying Bitcoin or for how many years he will keep it and if necessary, what percentage he can sell or when to change the plan based on his financial situation.
It is not easy to survive in the long term, you have to survive in the market through a lot of volatility, and if you do not have enough faith in Bitcoin, then you will definitely not be able to survive in Bitcoin investment. In fact, when the market goes up, everyone feels very good, but when the market returns to reality, and starts showing volatility, then the real investors and traders can be recognized. In fact, investing is not as easy as we think it is. And so we have to first understand the reality of Bitcoin, and prepare ourselves to survive in the long term in investing. Market volatility is inevitable, but those who can survive in their own plans are the real investors, and at the end of the day, they have the highest chance of success.

For sure, changing of investment plans does not mean that an investor is  weak. It's just like those investors that was buying aggressively but at some point they start reducing, some even go back to their normal method of accumulation. It could be due to their financial situation or probably they have reach their investment target about going into overaccumulation status, then they decide to go back to their normal method of accumulation since there's nothing to worry about anymore.

if you can hold on tight and not change minds halfway, you're more than halfway to achieving your long term goals.

Remember holding Bitcoin may be difficult for those that doesn't have emergency funds or backup funds,  that is why it is mandatory for all Bitcoin investors to create emergency or backup funds for Their Bitcoin investment so as to avoid selling our holdings when It's not yet time for us to sell.

You know the bitcoin culture of "when lambo" of which people don't say it much these days ..but that when lambo is simply a translation of when your stash value grows enough, you take your partial profits out  Cheesy

But the pattials strategy of selling some of the bitcoin stash is what professionals are doing,  look at companies like Strategy that are always selling..this tells you that you don't want to just watch and do nothing, by the way using this approach is maximizing on your profits and this is also a skill !!
Firstly I think investing in bitcoin with the mindset of obtaining profit is something I really don’t understand, because profits isn’t guaranteed, however if you do the right things you might have opportunities to earn profits, perhaps I’m quite confused with your choice of strategy of taking profits, which makes me to suggest that you might have interest of taking profits before you get to your level of over accumulation, that is if you have profits to take since you might not be able to fold your hands to get over the line of 100%(over accumulation).

Sounds more like Johnny Bravo!

I think people who lay so much emphasis on taking profits are mostly individuals who are interested in quick profits, something more like get rich quick scheme, you know what they say invest $100 and get $10,000 in two weeks, damn that is a scamming situation.

I am not entirely clear on why you would invest in something you lack confidence in or harbor doubts about from the very start. Investing with doubt makes it difficult to stick to your plan later on. Suppose you buy Bitcoin but question your reasons for doing so the moment the market dips slightly, you might wonder 'Did I make a mistake? Should I wait for another cycle to see where the market heads? Such doubts tend to compound making it hard to adhere to a long term strategy. Therefore it is essential to have a clear understanding of your decision before investing.

Furthermore to avoid excessive stress during market downturns it is always advised to invest within your financial means. Whether in life or in investments, conditions are not always the same ups and downs are inevitable. While it is easy to follow a plan when the market is performing well the real test comes during a slump. What matters most is your ability to remain steadfast in your plan during those times.

A strong investor isn't someone who never feels fear rather true strength lies in the ability to make decisions based on your plan despite fear or market volatility. The market is beyond your control but decisions regarding how much to invest the level of risk to take and whether to panic sell remain entirely in your hands.

So if I don't have enough money to cover 1 -2 years, i should now delay accumulation until I reach that point? Lol you’re not making sense man. Having like 3 months of essential savings can be a good start buffer.

You can continue to build it while allocation a portion of ur discretionary income into Btc. You actually don’t have to wait till everything is perfect before starting. The amount going to Bitcoin should be affordable.

A true investor does not mean that Bitcoin can never be sold or that Bitcoin must be held in all situations. A good investor will rather know in advance why he is buying Bitcoin or for how many years he will keep it and if necessary, what percentage he can sell or when to change the plan based on his financial situation.
No one actually said that if you sell you partial tamper with your bitcoin investment that you aren't an investor anymore and that your a trader, something we miss the point that we meant to hold and not sell in panic. The point is that if you must sell your bitcoin investment, you should do only when you have reached a point of over accumulation or close it,because if you begin to sell your bitcoin investment each time you are financially down or face with an Emergency situation, you will not reach over accumulation. This is why you are meant to build your emergency and reserve funds since you don't know what will happen next, so that incase you lose your job, contract or financial down, you can rely on your emergency and reserve funds instead of your bitcoin investment to survive until you secure a new job or contract.

I'm not sure that you understand what Charcol wrote or you took your time to digest it before rushing to reply him because he didn't say anywhere that you should wait and have enough money of 1-2 years as your emergency funds before you start your bitcoin journey. Rather, he said you shouldn't wait but invest and build your emergency funds simultaneously.

It's you that's saying that a brand new investor without any form of backup funds on ground should wait until he has build his emergency funds of three months of his expenses which is wrong as it will delay you from getting started immediately. This was the same thing Charcol was saying it's not right since, it keeps you as a no coiner till an unknown time.

The best thing to save time and jump into bitcoin bandwagon is to get started and build your emergency funds simultaneously with your bitcoin investment. You can divide your discretionary income into three parts. The first 1/3 for your weekly DCA, the second 1/3 for building your emergency funds and the last 1/3 for your discretionary consumption.

Well said, every investor is suppose to have a target point and once such target is reached they can decide if they want to sell some of their holdings or set a new target and continue buying. So bitcoin is not meat to be sold when you have any little issue, that why we have emergency and reserved funds. So in time of needs we shouldn’t just rush and sell our holdings.

We know it never okay to delay investing in Bitcoin, so as much as you are building your portfolio, we should also make sure we are building our emergency funds so we won’t be forced to sell our holdings.

I think the basic knowledge here is that your investment idea shouldn't be fighting with your daily life expresses, for example if anyone has be purchasing bitcoin consistently and for years and suddenly he had an issues and he need some money urgently if there is no emergency saving they might have no other choice than to sell their bitcoin at the lower level. But anybody else could be in the same mess and they can simply use the cash they kept out for emergency there bitcoin investment remain untoched and they don't have to decide or make any emotional decision.

I agree with you,  a lot of people get confused believeing in Bitcoin investment with simply hoping that Bitcoin goes up higher there is a huge difference if people bought Bitcoin because you know why you want to keep it for longer time 15  to 30 % shouldn't suddenly change your mindset. People who invest money they can actually need for rent an emergency when the Bitcoin market drops because the pressure is already there.

The requirements to start Bitcoin investment is your discreationary income, one can develop his emergency funds together with his Bitcoin acumulation progressively, emergency funds is not something one should keep when you have not invested anything in Bitcoin, both action is good to be going with each other, it not like it is bad to have your emergency funds ready as you want to invest, but the question is, how many persons can patiently build emergency funds for very long-term and still have the interest to invest in Bitcoin after, what happens to doing both simultaneously to prevent one from making unfavourable decisions along the line.
