What is DELTA?

DELTA is the most advanced diff algorithm that has been developed by the Guldencoin development team to keep our blockchain running smooth and to give our dedicated miners better value. Multi/Jump pools have changed the game and DELTA is our answer to them.

Why was the name DELTA chosen for a diff Algorithm?

The Delta Works project in the Netherlands protects a large area around the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta from the sea, the Delta works project has been declared one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.  We thought this was fitting as DELTA is going to protect stalls in the guldencoin blockchain caused by jump pools.

Please review the above link and notice the blocks per day and longest block gaps caused by jump pools entering and exiting our blockchain. We knew after trying
kgw, DGW3 and Digishield that we had to come up with our own difficulty algorithm.

Is DELTA future proof?

The simple answer is yes. It was one of the main goals to consider the potential changes in mining and the increased power that will come from future miners
as the world starts to adapt to virtual currencies.

What else is DELTA going to achieve?

DELTA is only the first part of our implementation for keeping the blockchain running smooth. DELTA is already prep'd to take on Multi Algo in the next release.
While Multi Algo on it's own does a good job, DELTA with Multi Algo will be a perfect fit. One of the main goals of DELTA is to bring back dedicated mining
to Guldencoin. The miners are the lifeblood of the blockchain and need to be given a suitable environment in which to operate. DELTA is for you and our users!

What won't DELTA achieve?

DELTA won't prevent jump pools from coming in and claiming blocks, but it will make it less profitable for them to do so.
Depending on the amount of hash that could leave our network we could experience 60minutes block times but we feel it will rarely exceed this time. Compare it to the nlgstats link above and you will see that as a massive improvement over what we have currently. It also allows us to stay at 150(2.5min) second blocktimes.

DELTA will go LIVE at block 213500, the line in the blockchain has been drawn and it's time to crossover.

Addition updates done in 1.4 release:

New Graphics added to wallet by Rijk.
New Checkpoint added.

DELTA is just the first innovative solution we bringing to the table, the next update will be our largest and most important by far and some exciting new features to come.

Hey Guys,

Just a post to say bittrex has been extremely busy with their latest update. Richie from Bittrex said guldencoin will be updated soon however in the event we get close to the transition and they haven't updated I will be asking Ryan from bittrex to shutdown guldencoin for trading until they have. I doubt it will come to this but needed to have this plan in place for a worst case scenerio.

Most of the pools have updated, bleutrade and litebit have also been updated.

The only 2 services which haven't updated that I know of is Bittrex and Comkort.

It is hard to say with the fluctuating block times, but our current best guess is some time on Sunday for first delta block. For the first 576 blocks delta will operate in a 'transition mode' before it takes full effect, we are hoping this will take a day or two maximum.

At this stage we would kinda prefer it if it does take a bit longer to get to transition because we would like the seeds to get over 80% if possible before that time comes.

We also have plans in place for the next update to make the upgrading process a lot more visible and easier to users that don't follow the NLG news every day, including users that are new to virtual currencies. It's not a good situation if people have to remove wallets and replace them on there own.

Under normal circumstances we would have a 2 week release period but since getting DELTA out was a priority we shortened the transition to under a week.

Is it not possible to have a update feed on the guldencoin wallet? Like game launchers they usually have update details, or promotions etc. on the game launcher screen. It would be good for users that don't follow NLG topics every day and maybe place the links of important topics on the Guldencoin wallet screen.

Anything is possible, however resources are limited so it's a matter of concentrating resources where they are most needed first.
To save on development time, initially we would probably go for a simple update screen just to alert people properly that there is an update and allow them to update easily, it may eventually evolve into something fancier.
However it is not something we have discussed much yet, we will probably discuss this more as we head toward the next release, so who knows how it will eventually turn out, especially if e.g. more developers over their time in future.
