Football is very subjective, for me all these discussions about who is the best between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are useless because each person can have his own opinion and everybody can choose the statistics they prefer to back up their preference. I simply think we have been very lucky to have witnessed such incredible rivalry for so many years.

Then one person can say Messi won the World Cup, another one that Ronaldo won in 3 different leagues, etc etc, what does it matter? Each football era has their best players, Messi and Ronaldo will be both part of theirs.

Yes we have been lucky to have witnessed the greatness but at the same time I just football has its own personal perspective and the way i understand football might be different from the way the next man see and understand football so when i say Messi is a complete footballer, I am just saying that from my perspective and understanding of football, he is complete in both individual and the team aspect of the sport. Of course Kudos to Ronaldo who has his record and style of football and yes both are elite but when it comes to it, i think we all have our perspectives which are of course made from our understanding.

Like the only thingd Ronaldo is better than messi are directly related to the games he has played, more goals= more games played, more hattrick = more games player, more penalties = more games played/penalties taken. So i dont think ronaldo is better than messi at a considerable stat. I dont know why people even prefer Ronaldo over messi as the GOAT because you can like ronaldo for other things but strictly football, messi clears ronaldo big time

There was a time when Messi and Ronaldo were the two men who completely dominated football with their game. If we look at the youth of these two players, we can see how great they were and how great their achievements were. We can never consider only their current performance, but we have to consider their past performance. Ronaldo was definitely a great player in the past, almost everyone was impressed by Ronaldo's performance at that time. Yes, now he is old and his age has had a lot of impact on his game, so it can never be said by looking at his current performance.

If we consider only the total number of goals it will not be possible to judge who has performed better between Messi and Ronaldo. Messi has participated in fewer matches than Ronaldo. That is why Messi has fewer goals. But if we calculate the ratio of goals per match, Messi will definitely be ahead of Ronaldo. On the other hand Ronaldo has scored many more goals from penalties than Messi. But if we calculate non-penalty goals, Messi will be ahead of Ronaldo. On the other hand, if we calculate free-kick goals, Messi is ahead of Ronaldo with 76 goals. If the world cup is excluded, Messi will still be ahead of Ronaldo. Even if we calculate the Ballon d'Or, Messi has won the Ballon d'Or more times than Ronaldo. If Messi and Ronaldo had the same number of matches, then Messi's number of goals would definitely be more than Ronaldo.

There is one thing I always considered as the biggest difference between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo: Messi's records came as something natural, he never really thought about them, he simply played and as consequence of him being incredibly good, he achieved incredible numbers. Ronaldo, on the other hand, has always been obsessed by the numbers and the records, for him beating a record was as important as winning a trophy.

I think this has also to do with the way the two players became so unique: Messi was born with a gift because, on paper, a player with his kind of physique shouldn't even be a professional player. And Ronaldo is the definition of work ethic because since he was a teen he always trained more than everybody else. He became so good because he was obsessed with becoming the best.

So we have two completely different players achieving almost the same results in two different ways. As I said before, we have been extremely lucky to see them playing (and fighting) for almost 20 years.

I agree with you. Messi never performed to set records or increase individual achievement. He has more consideration for how to take his team forward. That is why Messi's number of assists is also high. Where Messi himself could not score a goal, he assisted for the team, so that it is possible for others to score goals. I have seen many videos where Messi could have taken a shot on goal even if he wanted to, but he passed to others to ensure the goal. But because Messi's accuracy is very good, his teammates would create opportunities for him to take a shot on goal. I also consider Ronaldo to be a good enough player. But the fact that there is some selfishness in him is also proven in some recent incidents. Where he is not able to play cooperatively with his own team.

Your analysis is a clear distinction between hard-work and talent, one rose to fame due to personal effort gotten from his persistence and precision over time i.e Ronaldo while one got to fame with little or no effort because football was actually part of him from birth, truth is both Ronaldo and Messi have done so well for themselves, i normally tell people that they should try to strive towards success, success isn’t peculiar to anyone in particular, success can be gotten by anyone as long as they are dedicated to their craft. However, i prefer watching Messi more because his skills and achievements are actually natural, he doesn’t struggle to do the things he does, like dribbling, scoring goals and breaking records unlike Ronaldo who trains almost 6 times a day just to come close to Messi’s record.

Most fans always make comparisons as a matter of superiority between Ronaldo and Messi but in this case I agree with what you say because from the beginning the characteristics of these players are different and that cannot be denied. Messi with the natural talent he has while Ronaldo is a robot who spends time on football without a word tired and these two players prove themselves that they are the best in this era.

I know sometimes there is always a comparison to show who is the best but for now it is not necessary because these two players are goats who will always be side by side in their own way.
We do not need to think about who is the best between these two players because until any time they still have their advantages and disadvantages of each depending on how we see whether it is a natural talent like Messi that we believe or the process carried out by Ronaldo in a hard way to build a body so that it is always dubbed as a robot.

In as much as i know that this World Cup ended few days back and that a lot of memories from the just concluded World Cup is still fresh shouldn’t completely stop people from giving suggestions regarding the next 2030 World Cup, we can’t completely dwell on the past, wether or not there was match fixing or any form of irregularities in the just concluded World Cup can’t change the fact that Spain has already won, no one can turn the hands of time, as humans people must keep on going forward not backward no matter the circumstance, early suggestions and preparations will also help in reducing some irregularities in the next World Cup so that issues that occurred in this last World Cup won’t repeat itself again, so to me giving suggestions about the next World Cup isn’t a bad idea after all it won’t still stop people from still talking about the previous one.
I think Fifa just want to build a relationship with different zones in the world making reference to the last hosted World Cup 4 months ago. It will be good if they can channel it to Africa too it will bring a real sense of development in those areas,
This strategy is best for both political and economic reasons because when under develop country is added to the other two countries it builds a big sense of development across the whole region. Match fixing has always played a minor but certain roles that conflicts with the way Fifa is set up as an organization maybe it might favor one of the host nations in next World Cup .

With tge achievements of these players and if right now they are not performing like before they still needs to be respected, and people should understand that these men are aged right now and their is no need to expect so much from them at this point of their career. I think they haven't yet retired yet because of the love they have for football.

I will also add that Lionel Messi was concerned about team work while Ronaldo focused on individual brilliance. If not that Lionel Messi is selfless especially in front of goal because there are times when he should have scored but he will prefer to give an assist for the next person to score and that is why he has more assists than Cristiano Ronaldo. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo is self centered that is why he has many goals and few assists because he is always eager to score than assist the next person to score. We have seen several times where he almost claimed the goal scored by his teammates but that doesn't mean we should not give him the respect he deserves because it's not also easy for him to remain in the news for about 2 decades. Lionel Messi has achieved a lot in football but he doesn't even care about them but Ronaldo equate the world cup trophy to the Euro tournament.

How funny. I doubt this argument will end one day because this argument has been around for a very long time, and they might not be in their prime again, but I am very sure that no matter what, they cannot be forgotten because they made football interesting, and most people support Real Madrid and Barcelona because of those two and not their younger players who are in their prime and they are not doing little of what ronalo and messi have done.

Not like anyone is expecting anything from them, but will their legacy be forever? Soon enough, they will both retire, and to some extent, they have achieved a lot, and even if they retire, they will still play for fun. At least they are fulfilled, and other players should actually learn from these legends. They gave football more light when they were younger, it would have been a different thing entirely. Let's what the younger ones have installed for us.

I have no problem calling those who are legends legends. There is no doubt about it, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the most popular and important players in the world of football, but we often compare these two and compare them, we put one down and the other up. Lionel Messi has got a good team due to which he has achieved a lot internationally for his country, but in this case, Ronaldo is different. If Ronaldo was born in another country, then he would have had more than one World Cup next to his name.

Ronaldo's role behind all the trophies that Portugal has won while he was there is immense. Maybe Ronaldo's recent performance is not going well, this is not unusual because he is almost 42 years old, so we must accept that his performance will be bad at this age. However, there is nothing to criticize about his overall career because of his recent performance.

They certainly instilled a love for football even in those who had no intention of watching it before, many would tune in just to see Cristiano take a free kick or watch Messi make one of his long, surging runs toward the goal. All of this truly thrills many spectators and fans. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for anything specific in the near future, instead, I’d simply watch the game and observe how it evolves now that these all-time greats who will remain in the history of football forever are moving on.

Ronaldo for his recent performance or comparing it to when he was younger doesn't understand football,  playing at this level at 42, is hard, it's because he's a discipline and has passion for football that's keeping him in the game till date, having Ronaldo around till now with all his moments is something to be proud up, he made football more popular and enjoyable be both adults and children,  everyone inspired to be like him, it's only jealous people that will criticize Ronaldo's performance,  even at this age he's still better than most young players in theor prime he's still delivering as usual.

Today he resigned from Portugal national team, and I'm happy he left, he's just 15 goals to reach the 1000k goals, he doesn't need Portugal to achieve it, he can score 15 goals with Al-nassr this season,  Portugal let him down after all he did for the team. Portugal will.nver have a player like Ronaldo ever,  he made thr nation what they are in football today, but they are ungrateful nation. They frustrated his world cup journey.

Right now, i’m just enjoying every moment of Cristiano Ronaldo performances on the field, because soon we’ll see him retire from the world of soccer, perhaps Al-Nassr will be his final stop. When you compare his performance to his age, it really defies logic, he’s even still capable of scoring a hat trick. This is all thanks to his consistency and the healthy lifestyle he maintains, in fact, we might not even see young players with physiques as good as his. I doubt there’s any 41 year old player performing this well.

Today he resigned from Portugal national team, and I'm happy he left, he's just 15 goals to reach the 1000k goals, he doesn't need Portugal to achieve it, he can score 15 goals with Al-nassr this season,  Portugal let him down after all he did for the team. I’ve also seen it on his social media posts, specifically on his Instagram account. To be honest, i’m not at all sad about his decision to fully retire from the Portuguese national team, on the contrary, i’m very pleased with this news, because i think they just needed his popularity and were afraid of the fallout that would follow if Cristiano Ronaldo actually retired from the national team. So, this is the right decision he’s made and it will be the best decision for him. It’s unimaginable that he would actually return to play for the Portuguese national team, there would surely be even more problems that would only make things harder for him. His contributions over the past 23 years have been more than enough.

Like the only thingd Ronaldo is better than messi are directly related to the games he has played, more goals= more games played, more hattrick = more games player, more penalties = more games played/penalties taken. So i dont think ronaldo is better than messi at a considerable stat. I dont know why people even prefer Ronaldo over messi as the GOAT because you can like ronaldo for other things but strictly football, messi clears ronaldo big time
I feel that you folks are doing the wrong thing at the wrong time..This comparison would have been best suited while they were still in their prime and not now when they would finally soon retire form club football.. Moreso, they both have different roles, Messi is more of someone who creates plays... Which means that his role is that if someone who does more of creating of chances, giving assist and then scoring goals...While Ronaldo is generally a forward and that is role is majorly why he prioritizes goal scoring above creating chances for others...Then again, this is actually the time for we the fans to just enjoy and appreciate the talent of these men coz sooner or later they will complete their retirement by announcing their club retirement..Both are the GOAT of football in their own ways, so let's just enjoy them while we'll can...

I have absolutely no doubt that he will succeed and reach the 1,000-goal mark that is likely what he is aiming for. And, of course, not everyone is capable of playing at his age; many would have chosen to retire by now and enjoy a beer at their country home but not Krish. I often see criticism and short clips highlighting his unsuccessful moments, but the people who make these videos have likely achieved nothing in their own lives, so all they can do is criticize someone else. In any case, I feel he doesn’t have much time left to play, as it’s also important to preserve his health for the life that lies ahead.

You are right, Ronaldo will not be able to reach the 1,000-goal milestone for Portugal without playing for the national team. He may even be able to achieve this record playing for Al Nassr. His retirement from international football is important. Ronaldo has represented the Portuguese national team for over 22 years. During this time, he has scored close to 150 goals. Under his leadership, Portugal even won the EURO in 2016. Again in 2019 and 2026, they won the UEFA Nations League title. These are undoubtedly extraordinary achievements for a player. How well will Portugal do without him in 2030 raises questions in my mind. We know that Portugal is one of the hosts of the 2030 World Cup. As a result, there will be expectations of a good performance in front of their own fans.

I have not come on here to make unnecessary comparisons which I did in the past,  I'm simply here to congratulate Cristaino Ronaldo on his retirement from the Portuguese national team. I speak for every Nigerian supporting Portugal on behalf of Cristaino Ronaldo and that we will no longer be supporting them furthermore.

Cristaino Ronaldo inspired our childhood and also other players who made is professionally. I do not have the words but we hope to see him wrap things up after hitting that 1000 goals scored. I'm not down for comparison you lots are already having between him and Lionel Messi. They have done it all, and thisnis the last few months or years with them. We should all learn to enjoy them.

Anyone that criticize C.
I understand what you mean and I absolutely agree that playing football at 42 years old is difficult, but the critiques come because Ronaldo still thinks he is the best. Look what recently happened with Portugal. He is basically leaving football giving the impression he is an incredibly stubborn player who refuses to understand his time has passed. He's been at the top for 15 years, time passes for everybody, even for one of the biggest players in football's history, but he doesn't want to accept it. That's the reason behind the critiques.

I agree with you. Ronaldo is one of the best players currently. He is even the best player of all time for the Portuguese team. If there is anyone after Messi at the moment, it is Ronaldo. And there are still many who think Ronaldo is better than Messi. So if Ronaldo has any regrets about anything, it is that he is not in a better position than Messi. But there are many aspects in which he will be ahead of Messi in achievements.

And at this age, it is absolutely not possible to perform like before. And he has announced that he will not play any more matches for Portugal. He has decided to retire from his national team. It is not that he has taken all this with a normal mentality. in these last times, he himself may be suffering from depression. And his relationship with his team has broken . He may not want it to go to a bigger level, so he may have decided to retire. And I applaud his decision. Maybe he will gradually move away from club football after achieving the 1000 goal achievement. We are truly losing another superstar.
