I don't like this insistence on having a mathematical/coding/encryption angle to the name - it only means anything to us, it only impresses some of us - real people don't give a shit. Also, all this stealth stuff, it's just too polarising, it's as likely to put off just  as many as it attracts - BTC still carries the Silk Road baggage around.

In the wider world it is much more important that people are not intimidated by the name - it's going to take a leap of imagination on new users parts just to begin to get their heads round crypto - lets not scare them off before they've even tried.

plz make suggestions
clearly Rune was not liked by a lot of people, but you are the only one finding something wrong with ciphers so far

it is crypto, I think people can handle ciphers

i think he wants something as catchy as google. think boolberry but 2 syllables.  coopher? boolry? bools?

Most importantly I can market with "ciphers" as it is really a neutral word, also the google test shows a bunch of links about cryptography

So far my mind is as always - change nothing.

Blackberry = phones

Apple = erotic sexual communications devices

Orange = Mobile Phone provider

Raspberry Pi = Tiny little linux thing

You see? Tech companies using friendly names with good connotations because they are trying to attract real people. No one thinks they are a breakfast cereal manufacturer.

As for the idea that we are only offering something to the tech savvy/anonymous transaction user.... why in the hell why?

BBR offers security, ease of use (or at least better than others), speed and (optional) anonymous transactions.... what else does a normal, casual user want? Why shouldn't he use BBR too? Maybe BBR could overtake BTC one day, why not?

To suggest we cripple the coin by deliberately only appealing to a tiny segment of potential users is..... mental.

If you google boolberry, only boolberry comes up - unless the replacement name is really, really good, what's the point of giving away unique billing on google?

Here was my proposal

Ripple is great, so is splash. but these terms are very broad. ripple had deep pockets already to buy-out domain and handle marketing.

here is my idea

keccash/kecash (mispronounced) as kek-ash or even keycash, not ketchash
Neutral, short (2 syllables) unique- reflects cash properties as well reference to underlying algo.

Google: About 20 results

preregged domains

Code:
keccash.com
keccash.org
kecash.com
kecash.org

Though personally despite initially disliking boolberry I've grown quite accustomed to it, fond even.
The short ticker name also works.  "Sent you 20 BBR" just rolls of the tongue easily, it doesn't sound pretentious or dramatic IMO. There is no existing brand competition. I don't think we should try to force any branding at this time as it could be counterproductive, everyone can make suggestions and see if we can come to some slight consensus, it seems as for now the classic name is still preferred generally.

You realize that BBR is filling a niche for people that want the highest and most secure cryptocurrency, one with complete and total anonymity?  BBR isn't competing with bitcoin. Bitcoin can't provide privacy and autonomy.

There are hundreds of coins competing with bitcoin. Most, probably all, will lose.

BBR is competing against the powers of the world that don't want people to have privacy and autonomy.

Just realised I conflated a reply to two posts.

From above:

Are you sure you understand marketing? I'm amazed that you view BBR this way - you need to expand your horizons.

Of course "most probably all will lose", but one (at least) should succeed, you seem to be limiting the chances of that happening for BBR.

This isn't a war - I am genuinely concerned which direction you want to take the coin in, you seem to want to drive it further underground and use it in some personal ideological battle.

In the UK (which is full of degenerates, granted) it is a very, very common term, everybody knows it - Australia too I think.

keccash/keycash >>> flooz/floozy

I like keycash, maybe even better than boolberry, though I'm on the fence about it a bit. Also, keycash.com is apparently not available (no surprise there).

So you honestly believe people are interested in BBR because of ease of use and speed? Lol. Come on now. We can do better than this.

CryptoNote has appeal because of security and anonymity. Let's not be so naive to believe, as so many other fledgling coin communities are, that this coin will succeed simply because we want it to. Satoshi wasn't that naive. He put bitcoin the world and the world responded with a resounding "yes, we are interested in this."  The world is likewise responding to CN, for specific reasons.

I don't want to take this coin in any particular direction. I am happy to go down the path of least resistance with everyone else.

So you tell me, Sussex, who is investing in, developing and promoting BBR because of ease of use and transaction speed? Who?

If you can't answer this question with at least a handful of examples, then please stop acting like we live in a world that we don't. Smiley

If however, you can get the majority of people on this thread in the BBR community to agree that ease of use and transaction speed trump CN anonymity tech, then, by all means, lets focus on those points!

If we're not trying to appeal to the mainstream, why bother changing Boolberry's name anyway? People who want anonymity won't care what it's called.

Boolberry isn't that bad anyways.

Better than Rune.

Cipher sounds good though

I got a bit excited about Flooz earlier so I summed up the whole thing in a nice and well written message:

Hi there!

I've just had a revelation about the name. I think FLOOZ is perfect to the mind and sounds perfect to the ear. Let me explain:

The name "flooz" was based upon the Arabic word for money, فلوس, fuloos which also meant "coquillage, obole, sou". Coquillage is french for Shells. Flouze nowadays is slang for money in french. French will be the third most spoken language 30 to 50 years from now.

According to Nick Szabo resarch, at the origin it was shells that were used for money.  If you've read the cryptonote white paper, you can see its dedicated to Nicholas Van Saben. Nick van Sab sounds a lot like Nick Szabo. It's a bit of leap of faith but if FLOOZ was accepted as a name, the circle will be full... In french we say, la boucle serait bouclée.

http://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/flouze
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/flouze
http://szabo.best.vwh.net/shell.html

Cons:

In the english world, Floozie designate a woman who sells her body or money. It means that they love their money more than they body. But it also means that Flooze is in a lot of western languages interconnected with money.

PS: Flooze and other spelling are also good.
