The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

Does Monero even have any kind of significant competitor? I'm just wondering what the term "competence" means for you when Monero is the one and only of its kind (fairly launched and maintained CryptoNote coin).

I guess no for the good or for the bad.

but if you define a group close enough you can probably design everything without a competitor - to be fair dash and bytecoin are direct competitors

No. Unlike Dash, which has a community and millions of thread posts, and volume and development and activity,

bytecoin does not have anything. All tricks are made possible only because of the 99.9% concentration in ownership.

I challenge you to find anyone who owns bytecoin!  Cheesy

my perspective is obviously biased.

A bias towards reality is not such a bad thing.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.

+1 on that.
Monero is power. It can have a great future. But first Bitcoin needs to get global, so the crypto can be accepted.
After that, we will be able to see the real power of every coin.

I have a few million bytecoins sitting in a wallet somewhere that I bought in the pre-monero days.

I'm not "holding" them as much as I haven't bothered to sell them due to their complete worthlessness.

Likewise, though I don't think I ever bought, only mined.

You are not special you know, the causality in your sentence does not exist.

Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's.
This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

Yeah you should tell your xmr.to partners to keep their mouth shut and not insult people.

The causality exists but it is opposite in direction than what he suggests. I'm more likely to use the service since he doesn't like it.

I've only used http://xmr.to once, but it was really fast and worked well. I was able to send from polo -> xmr.to -> giftoff.com to buy a giftcard and it all went according to plan. Muahahahaha!
